You're changing frequency of light and the object it is connecting with and whatever magic maguffan nanobots allow the light to be modified to make his appearance different instead of just fading out of the visible spectrum.

The TV version looks way better IMO, I also felt the Zoom costume was a great improvement over the comic version which was basically identical to Thawne's.

Hunter Zolomon may have been ruined in the show but if they ever bring him back for the comics he should wear the black suit.

Also I hope they give Savitar his speedster army like the comics, that was pretty epic so I wonder if the shows budget can pull it off.

There are already rumours that Savitar is Eddie but as much as I want him to return it shouldn't be as him, wouldn't be angry if he did though. I miss Eddie :'(

I wanted Zoom to have no secret identity and be a malevolent force of nature or someone possessed by the speed-force in a venom-like way.

But it turned out to be Jay with daddy issues. If they'd had followed the comic Zoom i'd have liked it more but TV Zoom was a disappointment.

So I'm hoping they'll make Savitar more of an apocalyptic supernatural force rather than a deluded air-force pilot like the comics, but an appearance from Max Mercury wouldn't be unwelcome...

In the comics, he is another Speed Force user, back from the WWII/Cold War days. He got shocked while testing experimental, super fast fighter jets.

His "gimmick" is basically that he sees the Speed Force as an all powerful deity and he its prophet. He treats other Speed Force users who don't follow his teachings as blasphemers and fools who need to be disposed of, as he thinks they waste its power and taxes his own access to the power.

He's basically the most powerful/learned user of the Speed Force ever, as he took to studying it and understanding it better than anyone. He has a bunch of unique "speed" based powers that are absurd. He created speed steal, can lend speed to others permanently, can instantly heal mortal wounds, can basically simulate telekinesis, and control the age of others at will from across the world as well as a couple other things I'm forgetting.

Basically, the only stupid wacky over powered Speed Force power he didn't create/know was making clothes out of Speed Force (a Wally West special).

You would still get same number of stories and variety is only limited to who you would want barry to interact with and would have more time to define your antagonists. The second part makes even less sense than the first one considering a large supporting cast takes away from the show when you could put money from additional characters into sets, vfx/sfx, better guest stars.

The pay channels have already proven that shows with less characters can work really well.

if you look at other shows with procedural and genre elements, motw episodes tend to stand out better because when you do hit something good, it is self-contained within the episode which is why networks often want stand alone episodes and actually growing trend of serialization has grown over the years. I think to detriment of some shows and while some shows handle their ensemble casts better than others..

It is often glaring when you see the same formula repeated by the same network and makes the contrast just that much easier to notice.

That isn't to say some actors/characters don't stand out but on whole younger actors cannot support the amount of time they're given on these shows.

Joe served a purpose/narrative reason for season 1 but truly he should have been the one killed off in the first season not eddie.

I would have pushed flashpoint at end of season one, going into season 2 and shown a drastically different world but I also would have deviated from what they did on show so far with it and comics. I would have showcased the weirdness in standalone episodes and reduced the main characters to reoccuring in season 2, and then went back to something more familiar in season 3, and avoided reuse of season 1 narrative.

I can think of much better shows that avoided a lot of these pitfalls that this show is running into and they had a smaller budget over-all.

Unimaginative people are driving these shows.

This newest episode was probably the best written in the show yet. Not like it was amazing or anything, because it definitely wasn't, but there were absolutely no moments of cringey dialogue or retarded lines of logic. I've never seen an episode where I didn't have to roll my eyes 3 or 4 times throughout. Barry acted like a hero, Cisco acted like an understanding friend to Caitlin, Caitlin apologized for her shit and opened up, Iris admitted she was useless, Wally had believable reason to act like a shit... I don't even remember all the times in the episode that I assumed they'd do something stupid, and actually ended up avoiding it.

This is what the show should be all the time. Looks like the only new name on the list of writing credits for the episode is Emily Silver, so I hope we get more from her in the future.

It was pulling larger numbers because CBS reaches more households than the CW.

Supergirl didn't really fail, it underperformed but it still had the ratings to be renewed easily. The tax credits that were promised for filming in California didn't come through and that jacked the price way up. They had to cut costs and CBS didn't want to pay that much for it, especially for a budget Vancouver special.

While it is never fair to contrast across genres, CBS has much higher expectations that other networks.
