Is a trident really that big of an upgrade from a spear?
>>
It's got two more blades.
>>
>>87713040
You can stab three times as much, and you can use it to break blade weapons.
>>
>>87713070
>stab three times as much
Do you mean the motion of stabbing or the leaving holes in someone else's body?
>>
Maybe Pearl can charge energy into the two smaller tines and combine them with the fireball she makes with the main blade for a larger blast. Or three smaller blasts for more coverage
>>
>>87713040
Seems like a downgrade to me.. The spear could at least cut through enemies and keep things moving. With the trident, you have to wrench it out of someone before you can use it again.
>>
>>87713040
Shes got a nice gem ass
>>
>>87714102

Given the position of the middle tine the ability to cut enemies as she did with her lance is still there.
>>
>>87714202
Plus we've seen Amethyst summon her whips without the spike balls at the ends so the Gems can go back and forth pretty easily
>>
>>87713040

Am I the only one pissed that Steven didn't keep that weapon that shattered gems? I get the stigma and why he wouldn't want to use it but it seemed like a pretty powerful weapon even when not used to shatter gems. He could have used it for good.
>>
Yes, as long as you use it for fishing, because that's what tridents are for, fishing
>>
Do you think they jiggle?

why would a trident jiggle?

They should be a little bit shorter to give more room for slicing and to make hooking someone's weapon easier. But overall it is an improvement.
>>
>>87713040
Did she actually get a trident? Haven't seen the newest episodes.

>>87713040
Yes, tridents look way cooler.
>>
>>87713105
Either. The rate of stabbing, assuming the weight and how she handles it is unchanged, is increased by three times the original rate.
>>
>>87714289
i thought that final glimpse at it meant its not destroyed completely
>>
>>87713040

the trident does give the weapon a wider strike range, so a less precise shot could still hit a target.
>>
no, a trident also deals 1d6/1d8
however, it probably turned from a spear into a trident+1, which would give incentive
>>
>>87713040
>Pearl is a sword master
>signature weapon is a spear

I've never understood
>>
>>87716379

and why would a Pearl have a gem weapon in the first place?
>>
>>87716582
the spear probably was a screwdriver or gondala steering stick before it was turned into a weapon

the ruby had a simple survival knife, rather than our ruby's knuckle, so gems probably start out with less ornate weapons
>>
>>87713040
Apparently not, since she went back to having a halberd/"Spear" next episode.
>>
>>87713040
>one tip
Only one chance to hit vital organs
>3 tips
Officially increases chancs of hitting vital organs by 300% (or 200, whatever).

When it comes to looking at weapons realistically, size and versatility matter.

Small and quick dont mean shit if you cant kill your target. Thats why our weapons keep getting more precise, accurate, and powerful.

Plus tridents just look cool
>>
>>87714289
no! mutually assured destruction is wrong!
>>
>>87716646
most likely a glaive, due to its tip looking like a small sword
>>
>>87713040
It was a better upgrade than Garnet's Wolverine claws
>>
>>87716658
>Plus tridents just look cool

and they're good for you teeth. 4 out of 5 dentists agree.
>>
>>87714289
The weapon was dumb anyway. Big and clunky with absolutely shit reload speed. Basically only good as an execution device. Bismuth needed to take it back to formula.
>>
>>87716700
Anon, you aren't seeing the bigger picture. The most important thing is that it had just the right properties and/or amount of force required to shatter gems. It doesn't matter if it's shit now because it's a prototype.

Imagine the Crystal Gems recruiting a few more people like Bismuth/Peridot and replicating those destructive properties in other types of weapons like projectiles. Suddenly, it'd be to corruption what the A-bomb is to simple artillery.

So what's the big twist gonna be in Gem Harvest?
>>
>>87713040
No, the only one who got a real upgrade was garnet, but in the end Amethyst was the only one who kept hers and it appears she's only got one of them. I think she summoned both whips in earthlings
>>
>>87716791
Back to formula.
>>
>>87716791
But we already know that sufficient force can shatter gems, Amethyst fell off a cliff and cracked hers, Lapis Lazuli's gem got stepped on. A little more force and they'd be shattered for good

Gems already know how to shatter each other. That's why there's so many gem shards and fusion experiments running around
>>
>>87714289
gems are still alive and dangerous when shattered so it was really only a weapon that would make things worse for the CGs (both pissing off Homeworld and giving them MORE soldiers)
>>
>>87716851
introducing that weapon would likely cause a rift and shatter their unity, dividing them into pro and anti camps, and casue the rebellion to sputter to a halt

>>
>>87716902
Awww, OP spoiled me really bad...
Thanks anyways, is it a permanent upgrade, or just a combat choice, like how Amethyst sometimes uses two whips?
>>
>>87716864
It's not about excess, though. It'd be more useful to know exactly how much force is required to shatter a gem so the Crystal Gems could design weapons better suited to that purpose. A gun isn't necessarily better just because it can shoot more potent ammunition, it also has to be able to withstand that force without putting the user in danger.

Think about it, anon; a perfect shattering. No shards, fragments, or any sign of humanoid life; just dust.
>>
>>87716943
Even dust from ground up gem shards can be used as the pigments in paint in a cursed painting.

This is correct.
>>
>>87716828
It's gonna be another big bubble
>>
>>87714202
It's a glave, not a lance, but yes, this is true.

I don't see the trident as a downgrade, but just a sideways move. It opens up some new possibilities for the weapon, but limits it's use as a pure thrusting weapon.
>>
>>87717326

I'm so confused, is Steven Universe allowed on /co/ or not?
>>
>>87716582
She doesn't have a gym weapon. notice how everyone else summons theirs but pearl pulls her weapons from the same place she stores police tape
>>
>>87716828

>>
>>87717326
>>87717464
Well congratulations, you got yourself bubbled!
Now what's the next step of your master plan?
>>
>>87716828
Earth is a giant gem and transforms into a giant robot gem that combines with the other planet gems
>>
>>87718206
Amethyst pulls her whip from her gem too
>>
>>87714289
In a show where bubbling is an option, there is literally no reason for a shattering mechanism to exist. Bubbling is horrific, but form a writing standpoint it leaves the possibility for the characters to come back after being previously defeated.

It looked more like a chisel then a knife to me.

Plus, to a gem chisel has to be a pretty fucking scary weapon.
>>
>>87716828
Yellow Diamond destroys the temple, "harvest" the corrupted gems, and maybe kills/abducts Greg.

Steven has an angst induced growthsourt.
>>
>>87719360
It would work pretty well for prying a gem off of its hardlight hologram body construct
>>
>>87714289
>He could have used it for good
Perhaps HE could have, but the potential for misuse is great and undeniable. Better to have it destroyed and forgotten, than to risk that one day it would be in the hands of someone less righteous than Steven.
>>
>>87718689
See, that's the thing.
What exactly is keeping a gem from summoning their form after being bubbled?
Keep in mind that bubbling gem bodies doesn't affect their combat effectiveness in any significant way.
>>
For a person not in formation, a trident would be better than a spear. The prongs were used for trapping an opponent's weapon.

For history lesson, tridents (like most weapons) are derived agricultural or hunting tools and was originally a spear with prongs to make fishing easier. Military tridents then became longer and more elaborate, helped as being a weapon of choice for many water based mythical gods. As the use of prongs to disarm an opponent became more sophisticated, so did the design and the Trident developed into the Ranseur, the prongs now attached as a curved hilt giving better structural strength and easier to entrap other weapons with. The development continued with the Spetum having the hilt prongs sharpened into single edged blades allowing to cut and stab whilst another weapon is entrapped and then later the Partisan with the prongs shorter, closer to the main point and sharpened on both sides so you could slash with it as with a Glaive whilst still able to entrap other weapons.

The inherent properties of a bubble.
>>
>>87714289
Do you really think a weapon that was made inside a volcano would be destroyed be magma?
>>
>>87719768
From what we've seen, it's more like stasis.
A bubbled gem isn't aware of anything happening.
>>
>>87721040
Yes. The metal was shaped in lava, so it should melt or dissolve when dropped in it.

The fuck outta here with that nerd shit
>>
>>87720139
Eh, I wouldn't say it's a straight upgrade. The basic spear is a really really good weapon.
The protrusions can be used to parry attacks, push or pull weapons out of the way, unhorse cavalry and prevent overpenetration, yes but they add weight to the head, making it slower to recover when the point of knocked off line and they make it way easier for your enemy to parry or trap your attacks with their own weapons.
>>
>>87721082
it was a prototype and probably made of mild steel or something, and the heat of the lava would cause its mechanism to soften and warp, rendering it unusable
>>
>>87713040
it is when its a magic spear that can shoot laser beams
>>
>>87718206
Her weapon is actually created separately from her storage ability. Coupled with the lesson she gave Steven on summoning it, the spear actually dissipates when hit with sufficient force.

Items pulled from her pocket space are actual existing objects and can persist even when separate from her, hence Peridot's "Pearls are for looking nice and holding your things".
>>
>>87719768
The hard light projection (body) can't reform if a solid object is in the way of the light, or if the Gem is encased or stuck in something (mirror, suit of armor, lighthouse wall).

The Cluster is an exception, since all of the shards give its light a shit ton of force.

I think the answer to that is actually because the spear is her standard "pearl" weapon that she can pull out of her gem any time, and the swords are her weapons of choice.
