Only one of these characters will still be remembered in the next decade and it sure as hell isn't Miles.

I'm sure Bendis will make sure Miles sticks around for a very, very long
Sam is on his way out soon

Where do you think Mile's back hand is at?
>>
>>87711697
Marvel had a trinity, but since they're too autistic to market as such them anymore, Wolverine, Spider-Man, and Hulk keep getting the shaft.
>>
>>87711628
>he thinks Kamala will be remembered in that long
ahahahahahaha
>>
>>87711628
Nova, buddy. He's gonna make it. Rejoice, lads.
>>
>>87711787

Yeah, except Disney markets the old Spiderman, Wolverine and Hulk in the movie- and toy merchandises. So it makes all the Bendis' attempt to replace them with new heroes that much more hilarious. Disney know which characters bring the money in, and they sure as hell aren't Black Spiderman or San Fran muslim girl.
>>
>>87711826
He'll be the first death in whatever event they do next summer.
>>
>>87711813
Every generation has that one new character that sticks around. Miles will forever go down in history as a Peter recolor and only come back to be made fun of, like every literally who. They're probably going to kill off Sam to boost Dick Rider up some more. This leaves Kamala as the prime contestant.
>>
>>87711787
Now it's Spiderman, Ironman, and Wolverine
>>
>>87711737
I guess we know their respective positions.

>Miles

Literally worthless after being retconned into 616, not that he was something to write home about in Ultimate but there was something. Here he can't ven stand next to Peter, because he gets crushed below Scarlet Spider/2099/Venom's more unique designs and stories

Then again, Bendis.

>Sam

Novas can be replaced and it doesn't look like he will pass the test of time.

I'm giving it to Kamala by elimination unless Bendis intervention.
>>

She will stay as long as the Trinity stays seeing how Sam gets kept up. However if she slips from under her current editor the muslim lady, she will likely get killed for shock value in an event.
>>

this
Spider-Girl was actually my introduction to comic books when my teacher bought me a subscription
She was all over school fairs and classrooms.
Mayday was a big deal and Marvel's first female to hit 100 issues solo.
Spider-series will always sell. Forever ever no matter what.

>Brings up a DC character when talking about successful Marvel characters.
You fucking what?
>>
>>87713549
Miles and Spider-Gwen will fade into obscurity though. They're just fads of the times, the storylines involving them will be made fun of in the future "LOL! Remember when Peter's dead girlfriend from an alternate reality had spider powers?!?" "KEK, I know, wtf were they thinking?!?" Damian will stick around though, but that's DC's character that's sticking. Marvel's likely suspect is Kamala, especially since it seems they're grooming her for a movie or something.
>>
>>87713711

>>
>>87713682

damien is DC not Marvel, Miles is FIVE YEARS OLD now, spidergwen has little to no public traction outside of people who already knew who gwen stacy was
>>
>>87713795
Now that I think of it, what has he had to show for five years of existing? I can't recall any memorable moment the character has ever had.
>>
>>87713759
>it seems they're grooming her for a movie or something.
I don't see it.
Her powers would look odd in CGI.
Oh wait. She'll be on that one tv show.
>>
>>87713759
Dude Miles has been around longer than Kamala and still sells better than her. You're are just reaching here.

>Grooming her for a movie
She's an Inhuman. She's TV tier at most
>>
>>87713823
Hes still around. Thats pretty good for a legacy character
>>
>>87713549
Damian isn't a Marvel character so I don't know what the fuck.

Miles and Gwen fall under this
>>87713260
>>87713319
this argument, ESPECIALLY Spider-Gwen in that she's Spider-Man + Gwen Stacey.

Like, think about what you're putting forward here. A Robin and two Spider-Men. They're going to outsell a book called "Ms. Marvel" regardless because of their very names. Their sales don't really reflect permanence in public consciousness.

Kamala's still a legacy character, but only in a very light sense. Her not-terribly-impressive success is still the biggest new successes Marvel's had on a character that isn't one of their normal big sellers for a long while.
>>
>>87713828
Sales have nothing to little to do with who sticks around in comics. It's already been said, but Mayday was a thousand times more popular than Miles, now look at her. Miles is a direct result of current situations and culture, thusly, once the trends of this decade pass he'll go with them. Remember Vengeance? Yeah, me neither.
>>
>>87714015
No, he's a direct result of Bendis having a seat of power. As long as Bendis is around, Miles will NOT leave.
>>
>>87714056
>All the normies turning on Bendis after CWII.

So he's gonna last for about another two years?
>>
>>87713935

>>
>>87714173
Nah, Miles is a cuck.
>>
>>87714204
Do you think readers are this retarded?

Everyone knows Peter's book is Amazing Spider-Man
>>
>>87714239
>Do you think readers are this retarded?
Yes, absolutely. It's the reason why there's always been the sales trend of

Amazing > Spectacular > Sensation > Web of

no matter who's writing what. There are people out there who only buy things because of the title. But as I said before, that doesn't even matter because the amount of sales a character has has little to do with how long they will stay around.
>>
>>87714239
They bought Azrael Batman.
They bought Clone Saga Spider-Man.
They bought Civil War, and Fear Itself, and Original Sin.

Yes.
Yes I fucking do.

There's also the fact that Bendis's name, despite what we'd prefer, sells books. That's just a fucking fact. Bendis on a book called "Spider-Man" sells a lot of copies whether it's good or not.

People have a hard time defining who Miles now, so how do you think he's gonna fare in ten years? You're delusional if you think he'll be any more well remembered than Stephanie Brown is aside from the novelty of there having been a black Spider-Man at one point.
>>

>>
>>87714814
I didn't say anything about people hating Miles.
I said nobody can define Miles. He has no character flaws. He's just THERE.

in five years it will be another one

I dropped Mile's Spider-Man on the first issue for the shameless amounts of dicksucking he got.

Should I pick it back up? Does the story get interesting? What's Miles' character arc about?
>>
>>87714614
Yeah, as Ms. Marvel, and when shes in disguise she doesnt make a point of telling "I'M A SANDNIGGER, EVERYBODY!"
>>
>>87715367
He's goten even more dicksucking in every book he's been at the point where in CW2 when they're about to take him everyone just jump to save him, it sound like im just raging but looking at how other character got treated it feel like this
>>
>>87714611
Azrael Batman was clearly a temporary thing, so why wouldn't people keep reading it?
>>
>>87715367
>What's Miles' character arc about?

In Ultimate, it was basically "Can I live up to Peter's example?" Problem being, there's basically nobody telling him he can't, save Ultimate Jessica Drew.
Now that he's in 616? His arc is basically "is the world ready for a black Spider-Man?" even though Bendis seems to have forgotten that, in-universe, Spidey isn't well liked.
>>
>>87714997
Yeah, Sam and Kamala immediately had a defining moment because their characters clash. Miles was just kinda there.
I say he doesn’t need flaws, he needs traits.
Just that scene with Kamala and Sam meeting.
Sam:
> braggard eager to impress
> slow on the uptake
> insecure around girls. At least Kamala

Kamala:
> high expectations of heroes
> values the community over her convenience
> shy and insecure about her identity

Miles is... err...
He amounts to a guy, yes. But he is not an interesting character in and of himself. He doesn't have an inherent conflict motivating and informing his actions.
He literally left his conflict in the other universe. What little there was.
It's like they wanted to make him a black everyman so hard they forgot he also needs to be a hero. If you can have Luke and Jessica just jump into your book and outshine you for an issue just by having a personality, you really have not much going for you.
>>
>>87715448

Geez.

Then are they at least holding back on the Venom sting thing's bullshit?

>>87715492

I read Ultimate Miles, I was asking only about 616.

>His arc is basically "is the world ready for a black Spider-Man?"

>>
>>87715550
I read Ultimate Miles, I was asking only about 616.

>His arc is basically "is the world ready for a black Spider-Man?"

That's it?

Well the thing is they delete all his experience in the ultimate universe, they say he's always been in 616 from now on, his parents and family are alive and dosen't have any of the character growth he got in ultimate universe
>>
>>87715670

Yeah that weirded me out when I read the first issue and Miles showed a flashback of meeting Peter for the first time in 616.

I'm pretty sure that that at the end of Secret Wars both Peter and Ultimate Miles landed on 616 and talked like usual.
>>
>>87715550
>Then are they at least holding back on the Venom sting thing's bullshit?

He's won nearly every single fight he's ever had with it. And it ALWAYS one-shots. Always. No exceptions.

Yes. And yes. After the issue opens with Sam Wilson, Hawkeye, Iron Man, Jane-Thor, She-Hulk, Vision and Scarlet Witch jobbing to him. He grabs Cap's shield, smacks Blackheart with it, gingerly touches him once...and that's it. Blackheart runs away screaming in pain.

Venom Blast is literally "I Win: The Move."
>>
>>87716154

>gingerly touches him once...and that's it. Blackheart runs away screaming in pain.

Not two venom blasts, I mean he defeated Blackheart twice with a single venom blast each int he same issue.

>>87716203
Nope, it only happens once. The issue starts near the end but cuts away before he picks up the shield. Then at the end of the issue he picks up the shield and then Venom Blasts the fucker.
>>
Really, what's the deal with giving Miles no personality or motivation? I mean, they did fine with Silk's, it wasn't spectacular but it was passable for a character that came out of nowhere.

And speaking of Silk

>Faster than Peter
>Spider sense is hilariously better than Peter's
>Claws
>Organic webbing
>yet both were bit by the same spider

Together with Miles' Mary Sue Blast, what's with making rookies so OP for no reason?
>>
>>87716439
>what's the deal with giving Miles no personality or motivation
That would involve giving him flaws or personality traits that people could find objectionable, and he would be challenged and sometimes fail.

Bendis is seriously too caught up on him being the super awesome black hero representation and the one true new Spider-Man to realize that good characters are real, flawed ass people.
>>
>>87716478
But Miles has flaws though and a motivation....
>>
>>87715670

SILLY ANON, YOU CANNOT IGNORE BENDIS, AND NEITHER CAN THE WRITERS.

BY THE HONORABLE SPIRIT OF THE KLYNTARS, THIS SHALL NOT STAND
>>
>>87711787
They don't have a Trinity. The Trinity is Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman, it's a term used to describe them, not just 3 random heroes. The closest Marvel would have to a 'trinity' is Captain America, Namor and the Human Torch since they're the only golden age heroes who survived.
>>
>>87717426
I agree.

Bendis has talked about how he's eventually going to fill in how Miles dealt with things during the 8 months after Secret Wars. Hopefully the other writers get the memo or there is going to be more mistakes in continuity and cannon.
>>
>>87717534
I've seen Bendis (and others) take over books for single issues just so they can be the one's to micromanage subject matter with a spoiler involved.
And I don't blame them, there's some writers that are just all thumbs when they try to drop in some ham-fisted subtext.
>>
>>87717614
Exactly.

One of the most interesting things we've got coming up next for Miles is Bendis exploring this matter a bit.
>>
>>87717361
I actually hope this shittery becomes a plot point. Scrap the snoopy grandma story and let's deal with consequences of having your memories and existence in general forcefully grafted into a place it didn't exist before, then having the seams hastily sanded away. It could be his origin story of sorts and do a little to differentiate him from Pete. Bendis doesn't know what the fuck to do with him when it's staring him right in the face.
>>
>>87717824
Bendis is going to explore these plot points. It's something that I think Civil War II is building up to at least as far as Miles is concerned.

And there are quite few things that differentiate Miles from Peter. And I think going forward Bendis is going to really stress these differences more.

I'm definitely not a leftie and I'm only saying that to make a point, maybe we can both agree on. I think comics need to lay off politics. Modern, daily, news-cycle politics with the binary issues people are divided by. Which really isn't about politics and more about cultural war.

I think with the Internet, artists are too wrapped up in now and they automatically take the positions the other artists take. No one really stops and think about the actual issues. They see people protesting and project their own views onto it, not questioning it at all. If you hold a sign and yell at things you must automatically be on the right side of history since history books have pictures of people holding signs and yelling at things!

It's all gotten gotten very shallow. In cape hero comics context, it's better to keep going with an original story than try to use these established characters and franchises to create personal soap boxes and echo chambers.

Maybe I should have been more specific.

When I say he's reckless/irresponsible I speak of his style of fighting as well as how he makes decisions as a superhero. Time and time again people have warned him of the importance of protecting your Secret Identity. And yet Miles still does not heed this. His disregard for wearing his mask at times and his inability to keep a low profile has led to many people, not just villains, easily figuring it out. As I said this has cost him. When he fights either he doesn't think about the consequences of his actions or he simply doesn't care much about it. For Miles I generally think its the latter.

Here, on this page Miles could have killed a guy. You'd think for someone that already technically had blood on his hands Miles would be more careful with how he treats people and yet time and time again Miles takes great risks with their lives. Despite him professing some sort of moral opposition to such actions. Miles consistently behaves contrarily to these ideals simply because they are not his ideals(at least not really).

Another one of his flaws.

>I think comics need to lay off politics.
No, that's fucking stupid.
>Modern, daily, news-cycle politics with the binary issues
Yes, this makes sense, because like you said it's not even politics.

It's not that artists need to stop being political so much as they need to write stories of substance if they're going to tackle politics. Transmet wears its politics on its fucking sleeve but it's a great comic because it's well thought out and meaningful. Randomly spouting #WOKE without realizing what you're saying is nearly the same as #redpilled is what we shouldn't be doing.
>>
>>87713759

>Miles and Spider-Gwen will fade into obscurity though. They're just fads of the times, the storylines involving them will be made fun of in the future

I'm prone to agree with this under normal circumstances but I think the Internet is inflating their value. You can't talk to normies and casuals without someone going full SJW and saying "BUT SPIDERMAN IS BLACK NOW!" and bitches love cosplaying as Spider-Gwen.

Their value as characters are useless but their value as mouthpieces and insert fantasies are keeping them around.
>>
>>87718522
I think Spider-Gwen will live on in the sense that the costume will persist and Miles is a big enough footnote that he'll have a Savage Dragon like effect where a lot of people are aware that he exists but don't know shit about him.

I think she's only really successful because Marvel shoe-horns her into everything, everywhere. They're forcing her success.

>Fear of writing a black character in an offensive way. This usually happens when the character is envisioned as black first and a character second.

Dubs of truth telling. This an incredible way of putting it and it highlights the problem with creating a character with social justice as a starting point. They want to make a character's race/special group the main focus of the character to "represent them" but since they magically represent all individuals of that group, the writer is too afraid to make them an actual individual on their own right.

Character flaws are what build character, by overcoming them or working around them.

>His arc is basically "is the world ready for a black Spider-Man?"

No it's not. One of the SUB-PLOTS explored in the first arc of his current run was spider-man and race. A SJW chick became obsessed with the new Spider-Man and took a special interest in the color of his skin.

But Miles said he didn't want that. He didn't want the qualifier. Miles doesn't want to be known as the Black Spider-Man. He just wants to be known as Spider-Man.

In a sense that's right: she's a likable, adorable female protagonist whose adventures have a nice balance of silliness and drama. It's feel good comics that give her nuance, which is pretty similar to the moe formula. It's just a singular protagonist.

Problem is that this nuance doesn't catch with other writers and she's a shitty mouthpiece in a lot of other books.

Molecule Man did save and bring over Miles friends and family that didn't have 616 counterparts. But the others such as Ultimate Cloak and Dagger as well as Ultimate Jessica Drew and Ultimate Kate Bishop died. And Miles knows and remembers that.

>>
>>87719051
That's the traditionally recognized "Avengers trinity", but it's never been as definitive as DC's "Trinity" because those three are DC's best and Marvel's didn't include Spider-Man or Hulk or any of the other fan faves.
Now DC might have a sort of grandeur to their three obvious mainstays, they are on most people's pull lists, but they're also stagnant and unchanging because of that.
These days Marvel is looking toward the next generation of a trinity, Cap-Tony-Thor was the first group right from Marvel's heyday, they've each been replaced now by a "next generation" and Miles-Kamala-Sam for the kid's version.
And that fluidity undermines the very concept of Marvel even having a "trinity", so really it's always going to stay a DC thing.

And in the Ultimate Universe Kate Bishop's parents were Hydra and her father ended up becoming one of Miles' enemies. Also in the Ultimate Universe Jessica Drew was a clone of Peter Parker and something of a big sister type for Miles.

Am I honestly talking to Bendis right now?

No normal ass civie is gonna see a second Spider-Man who wears a black costume and go "It's Spider-Man" while Normal-Ass Spider-Man is still swinging around. They're gonna tack something on to differentiate him. They can't read the title of his series.

And he's wearing a black suit.

He is BEGGING for people to call him Black Spider-Man.
>>
>>87719696
You keep talking about his suit when it has nothing to do with his suit.

She is not calling him Black Spider-Man because of the suit. His costume had torn during the fight and people could see his skin. She made a special note of that. She is calling him Black Spider-Man not because of the color of the costume but because of the color of his skin. That is made very clear in the issue.
>>
>>87719696
Yeah, to differentiate them they call Miles the new Spider-Man and Peter the old one.
>>
>>87714814

Judging from sales, not a lot of people like him either.
>>
>>87719865
But they don't call him "New Spider-Man."

>>87719833
>Bendis hamfists it to be solely about race in his metacommentary on fan reaction to Miles.
Yeah, no fucking shit.

The point still stands that nobody's gonna actually just call him Spider-Man when he's distinct from Spider-Man. It's a Catch-22 with what they're trying to do. The whole thing with him also being Spider-Man would make sense if it was like Hobbie and he just wore a Spider-Man suit, but that would confuse readers as to who is who when Spidey shows up in cameos and the like and doesn't make Miles stand out. They can give Miles a distinct look, but then he's a different hero and giving him the same name is unnatural for readers and in-universe civvies alike.
>>
>>87719032
In a world of clones he's better off honoring ultpeter with a different name and costume
>>
>>87719326
>Because he's Spider-Man not the Black Spider-Man.
So was Ben.
They called him Scarlet Spider.
>>
>>87720071
But they do call him the New Spider-Man on the news and in the papers in his solo book.

Miles has always been called Spider-Man you can't just depart from his identity. It's what he's always called himself. It's who he is. With Peter no longer in New York as much, Miles has become the Spider-Man they see all the time not Peter. That is why they call him the new spider-man. Because the old one has kinda left them so that he could become the globetrotting spider-man he is now.

>>
>>87720210
That logic is flimsy as all fuck.

Monica Rambeau was the definitive totally legit Captain Marvel...and she eventually renamed herself Photon because fuck you, comics. Kitty was Shadowcat for DECADES, now she's got some stupid new codename. Miles took up the mantle of Spider-Man to carry on Peter's legacy, did that for like a year or two, and...now Peter's just here. And older and more competent.

Guess he should just keep protecting the legacy of this totally living guy!

And then you're acting like going global somehow means Spider-Man needs a backup identity for New York...even though he already had one of those, and he just wore another Spidey costume just like Peter's. And Batwing didn't just suddenly christen himself Batman when he came to Gotham while Bruce was globetrotting. And Destroyer didn't stop being Destroyer when he left Germany.

Like, seriously, this just reads like blind acceptance of Bendis' sloppy justifications. We KNOW why he's distinct yet "also Spider-Man." Bendis wants him to one day be THE Spider-Man, just like how he was THE Spider-Man of Ultimate. There's no other, actual reason for it. If natural storytelling took place and marketing had its way, he would never be rocking the same name despite being so completely different while Peter's still active.
>>
>>87720299
Miles isn't Spider-Man because of Peter Parker. If anything that initial motivation of "honoring" Peter was flimsy at best. That is why when Miles mother died he quit for a whole year. It wasn't until Spider-Man No More and his interactions with Cloak and Dagger, Bombshell, and Jessica Drew that his true motivations for being Spider-Man surfaced.

Also later in the series Ultimate Peter Parker was revived and Miles met him. That didn't stop Miles from being Spider-Man. Later on Ultimate Peter died with many of the others during the incursions of Secret Wars.

Miles knows/remembers all of the things that happened in the Ultimate Universe. Why now all of a sudden in the Marvel Prime Universe would he change the name he's always gone by? After all some parts of the UU where he was always called Spider-Man now lingers in the Marvel Prime Universe.
>>
>>87720299
>>87720444
Marvel totally embraces the concept that in-universe the population engages in hero-worship, there's scores of scenes where kids, adults, and even other heroes meet their personal hero and admit that person's their inspiration.
Also: "Spider-Man" is descriptive of the guy's powers and general theme just as "hulk" refers to the big green guy being so freakin' huge.
Only "Captain America" was a name chosen in-universe as propaganda messaging.
Almost everything else was a name chosen on the fly.

External:
- family problems: no trust and lots of infighting
- heroes and media not seeing him but his color
- best friend keeps backstabbing and giving out secrets
- accused of murder/might be a murderer now

Internal:
- very insecure
- guilty about getting his uncle killed
- lacks Peter's strong believe in things and his technical and scientific know how
- knows jack about girls
- almost never on the offensive when dealing with his problems
