The Han Solo poster was one I threw in months ago back when I was giving everything an image, including stuff with no official covers. I had Filoni's Ahsoka art for the Ahsoka book for example. Now the Solo movie is the only one that doesn't even have an official placeholder image, so it sticks out. I'll have to change it next time I post the image.

The Rogue One image was just a mistake I forgot to change.

>>87698329
Ezra's Gamble is fun, and Servants of the Empire is actually surprisingly engaging. They're fun enough and quick reads.

However Adventures in Wild Space I am less sure of. I only read the start of the first book, and it felt way more dumbed down and "kiddy" than the other books. First time I felt a bit embarrassed to be reading a Star Wars book. Maybe I'll pick it back up when there is nothing else around.

As a new employee of the Empire's Advanced Weapons Research division, it is vital that you understand the history behind the TOP SECRET project on which you will be assigned. A manual codename CATALYST shall be provided for you at no charge. Remember that it is important that this manual not be viewed by any Imperial personnel outside of your department. Failure to prevent this manual from being viewed by other divisions will result in mandatory "debriefing" with Lord Vader.

If you are a Geonosian worker who has received this memo in error, please report to the nearest Imperial garrison.

Thoughts on the Legends explanation for the theft of the DS plans? It seems convoluted at first but in hindsight it's pretty neat. One of the retcons I feel worked out desu.

I actually prefer the legends interpretation because it feels more realistic that the Empire would separate the Death Star's schematics and send them to different Imperial instalments. It makes the destruction of the DS even more meaningful because there's been an active campaign by the Rebels like Kyle Katarn, Bria Tharen, Biggs and Leia to find all the pieces.

It feels a little too simple, convenient and "Hollywood" that all plans would be on only one physical datatape ripe for the picking. So in hindsight I like the original idea more, but the film may change my mind. I'm looking forward to learning more about Galen the designer and his relationship with Jyn more than most, he seems like a unique character.

>Thoughts on the Legends explanation for the theft of the DS plans?
I'll be honest, it was fucking stupid. The simple fact is that the EU told multiple independent stories about the theft of the plans, with each one supposedly being the linchpin to the Rebel Alliance. About 6 different individuals AND groups stole the death star plans. The retcon doesn't make it any better when each one was supposedly the catalyst for the opening of A New Hope.

I am not against the idea that the plans would be split up. But it wasn't planned that way, and the narrative suffered because of it,
>>
why are there no comics releasing this week?
>>
>>87699934
The problem with this is that it was never intentional, nor was it even official. As it stood in Legends, there were several contradictory explanations for the plans being stolen. The idea that each was actually one component of the plans and they needed all of them was just a theory to explain how all these separate plots could be true at the same time, but it was never actually an official explanation.

The reason it's worse to have separate plots is because it means the Empire's security consistently failed to protect the same project 5-6 times.

Can anyone give me a good reason to keep Poe Dameron on my pull? I tend to forget each issue straight away. It's not that it's bad, it's just plain vanilla, and with Marvel sometimes hiking the price up to $5 for some issues I'm wondering why I'm still bothering. I liked Soule's Lando series, and I guess I expected the same from this one.

I do like Noto's art though.

I agree it was convolotuted and messy but concept was neat and the explenation Leland Chee gave in the end was good. But yeah, they really shouldn't have made so many different damn stories about it.

My favorite is probably Bria Tharen given her sacrifice is a good catalyst for Hans resentment for fighting for a cause and the rebellion. So that turned out to be I think the best one in the grand scheme of things.

I have a feeling Jyn and her family's story might top that though, I'm excited to read catalyst.

>>
>>87700189
I can't justify keeping it there. Poe's a pretty bland protagonist and the book seems like it's just going to continue treading water and not doing anything really substantial. Part of that is just the nature of the comic being a direct prequel to TFA and likely not revealing a lot because some revelations are probably going to wait until Episode 8, and part of it is just that Poe having no real story means the book has no real hook.

Would you rather be reincarnated as a Stormtrooper or a Jedi?

If you choose a Stormtrooper, you're going to be reincarnated onto the Death Star five minutes before Luke blows it's exhaust port. You don't know how to fly a TIE, and you can't warn anyone about about the station's impending doom. You'll have a droid with you that can get you off the station, but only if you swear to be his bitch for the next 10 years.
You cannot blast the droid if you make it off the station.

The droids you can pick from are a Protocol , an Astromech, or a Probe droid.

You're equipped with a blaster and some slicing equipment.

You cannot slice the droid.

If you chose Jedi, you're dropped into the Jedi Temple five minutes before Anakin marches up the steps with the 501st. You can't fly a speeder, and you're only gonna be about 12 years old, so no Jedi Master or Knight will seriously look into your concerns. Only a handful of other younglings will believe you, and they'll help you in anyway they can.

You can take with you: one 12 year old youngling, two 10 year olds, three 8 year olds, (and so on).

You're equipped with a lightsaber and a hydrospanner.

You cannot ditch the younglings if you escape the temple, and you must care for them the way you would a brother or sister.

Is he in Catalyst? That's surprising, but then again Luceno's a continuity junkie, so if a one-shot character like him was ever going to be referenced again, it'd be in a Luceno book

If order 66 and the slaying of Sep leaders didn´t happen.
Who would win between the republic and cis?

According to the super tactical droid from the last battle, the cis only had about 23.8% chance to lose.
>>
Okay, I'm going to be blunt here. I dabbled in the EU before it became non-canon, mostly enjoying the jedi vs sith stuggle of the old republic and the likes. Is there anything that is canonical now that is worth the time to invest in if you are mostly interested in jedi/sith lore, or are we still stuck in the loop where everyone is just establishing lore for the rebel bullshit and filler between each of the first three movies.

And as much as maul is a neat character, I'm personally sick of him because he became a literal mary sure that will never fucking die. So not super intrested in the new maul comic that's coming soon.

>>

>Is there anything that is canonical now that is worth the time to invest in if you are mostly interested in jedi/sith lore

No. Some things give you very small kernels of info about ancient Sith and Jedi history (and other things unrelated to them), but it's never the focus. Really, apart from a couple comics, anything pre-TPM is for the most part unexplored as far as published media goes.

Canonically, Lucasfilm might have a shit-ton of it planned out for all we know thpugh.
>>
>>87702787
The Jedi/Sith conflict is spread out throughout all the canonical material. Some materials have more lore on the subject that others, but there isn't one series that I would point to that focuses specifically on their conflict.

Maul may be stubborn, but he loses all his big encounters, I wouldn't call him a mary sue when he constantly gets knocked down. His new comic is set before TPM.
>>
>>87702787
>>87702827

It's been a year and no one on this shithole of a place knows what a Mary Sue fucking is.
>>
>>87702762
Nah, it's like the U.S. election. Hillary had a 95% chance of winning before result day, then it went to a 90% chance of Donald Trump winning over the course of 6 hours.
>>
>>87702903
Yeah okay if living through getting bisected on "pure hated" isn't literal mary sue garbage then you can fuck right off. He can "fail" as many times as he wants but he needs to go the fuck away, he is past his prime and outlived any relevance he once had, just like stan lee. Stop giving maul any kind of plot importance outside of his first death, anything prior is neat because at least it sizes up that obiwan is pretty bad ass and can take down a very strong sith, or that maul is the galaxy's biggest jobber and people try to make him seem super bad ass to compensate it. Either way I stand by my mary sue remark, he's pretty bullshit by any other standard and he keeps coming back because fan favorite villain.
>>
>>87702762
It would still be the Republic. The thing is Kalani doesn't have all the information. The CIS was lead by Dooku who no one knew was answering to Sidious the whole time, and Sheev wouldn't favor a scenario where Dooku's side wins. His plan was always to put himself at the top.
>>
>>87702762
There are many reasons the republic would have one. The two major ones being, jedi since every time they showed their face the fight became a decisive victory for the republic, and clones. The clones were far superior soldiers to droids, the only reason droids were a feasible army was because you could produce so many so fast, that it didn't matter they were shit soldiers, one died and two took their place.

I mean shit even sheev knew this, after taking over the republic, he kept the clone troopers and tossed away the droids because they weren't really beneficial or good at anything since clones were about as numerous as them, but follow orders better and had an actual mind.

The cis was always going to lose on a grand scale because the jedi could take down as many robots as they needed to without ever being shot down in the process. The cis never had a large number of useable units that could make a decisive victory where needed, all they had was doku, ventress, and grievous. But even then two of the three wouldn't be able to hold any solid footing against a real jedi
>>
>>87703134
>after taking over the republic, he kept the clone troopers

Only for a couple years at the most. But before long, he threw them away too in favor of what's basically riot control rather than actual soldiers.
>>

Well Lucasfilm (and the Blu Ray releases) treat the TCW movie as it's own movie, whereas the Rebels "movies" are officially just episodes of the show, so I was using that as a basis. He's not supposed to be our Luke. The prequels are not the OT. We do not need a "Luke" or a "Han" or a "Leia".

He's our Anakin.

>He doesn't discover anything, he doesn't develop into anything

Like what? We never see him perform any Force abilities, he never does any training, he never changes his attitude, he never matures, he goes from a scared little boy to a scared little boy with a lightsaber and a hair braid.

The Separatists planned it. As the novel reveals, Krennic convinces Poggle to enlist the Geonosians into actually building it for the Republic as a gesture of goodwill and reconciliation for the Republic's offering the chance at putting their manufacturing expertise to the ultimate test after the Separatists left them to waste after the second Battle of Geonosis. Not long after the Geonosians finish their share of the work, the Empire submits them to genocide so as to assure they're never able to partake in such undertakings again.

I fucking love this book.

>A Darth Maul comic book is being unleashed on Star Wars fans in the new year, though the fan-favorite Sith apprentice is more leashed than they’ve ever seen him.
>Written by Cullen Bunn and drawn by Luke Ross, the five-issue Marvel Comics miniseries Star Wars: Darth Maul (to debut in February) takes a look at the tattooed villain’s younger days before his short-lived appearance in the 1999 prequel film Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace. On tap for the antagonistic warrior: lots of rage, a need to take revenge against the Jedi, and problems taking orders.
Has this been discussed yet?

Good thing I'm an Imperial.
I'm also tired of the Empire being used as the strawman for every bad thing ever. That's something I think Aftermath does right, it shows the logic and ideologies on both sides.

I can understand Qui Qon, but the others? Through Qui Gon the audience can learn things.
Meanwhile Padme does her politics, Obi Wan stays the same throughout the movie. Anakin is a kid and stays as a kid.

>And Han, Leia and Luke with ANH, TESB and RoTJ.
that's a stretch. Luke is the one learning and making choices.

I loved Bloodline and Lost Stars for this too.

They showed that just because people wanted a strong Empire, doesn't mean they all liked Darth Vader, or slavery. People have morals, and don't just turn into monsters because they have different political ideologies.

So in short, the Republic offers the Geonosians an opportunity to revitalize their economy and hive productivity through the construction of the Death Star for the Republic after the Separatists threw them under the rug during and after the second Battle of Geonosis. When the Empire is able to move forward with its construction through the use of civilian contractors after the war (I assume), they sterilize the planet of its population, inadvertently sterilizing its last Queen as seen in the Vader comic.
>>
>>87706737
>Through Qui Gon the audience can learn things.

And we don't learn about the senate and Palpatine's plans through Padme?

>Obi Wan stays the same throughout the movie

1. That's not the only way a protagonist is. Also, Luke does jack-all to develop in ANH.
2. He did get the role of protagonists right in all 6 films.

>Like what? We never see him perform any Force abilities, he never does any training, he never changes his attitude, he never matures, he goes from a scared little boy to a scared little boy with a lightsaber and a hair braid.

1. Yes we do, he successfully wins a podrace(which is established to be impossible for a normal human) to name one.
2. We don't need to see him do training in the first film.
3. He does change his attitude, actually. He goes from a relatively happy kid stuck as a slave to a scared kid who misses his mother, to a kid who helps defeat the Trade Federation ship and gets to become a Jedi like he wants.

Okay so wow, fuck Poggle. He used Krennic's olive branch as an opportunity to return to the Separatists. The clones on security are forced to put down these struggles, killing the workforce on many an occasion. Poggle uses the confusion this causes to escape back into Separatist space.

>Why should we care if the protagonist (Qui Gon?) didn't care?
Did you miss the part where they sent Qui-Gon and Obi-wan back with Padme? The Jedi Order knew the bullshit on Naboo was linked to the Sith. The Dark Side users who were suppose to be wiped out. I don't think you're getting the implication of how fucked the Jedi and Republic were that they still existed.

>Besides all the necessary info is given in AOTC in a more comprehensible form.
No. TPM showed how weak and fragile the Republic had become after centuries of weakening by the Sith. The Naboo incident inspired many worlds to be persuaded by the Confederacy rising in the background.

>>87706209
>Not him but no one felt like a protagonist in TPM. Especially Anakin. And he's supposed to be our Luke. But he isn't Luke, at all.
Because the PT isn't a retelling of the OT. It's a completely new story with a different theme and group of protagonist. Anakin was never meant to be like Luke. Ever.

Then what exactly makes Ani a protagonist other than the fact that he's a Skywalker and he's space Jesus? This isn't a deep story, it's a fucking space adventure. A protagonist like Luke is absolutely necessary.
1. Seeing him win some race doesn't give us any Force discovery. It's just some race.
2. You're right. But he doesn't do any training on any of the PT movies whatsoever.
3. Except he goes back to being a happy kid when he ACCIDENTALLY blows up the TF ship. And again, we never see him perform any Force abilities, so his Jedi status is literally nothing in the film. Yippee!

>1. Seeing him win some race doesn't give us any Force discovery. It's just some race.
When we're told that no human has ever won a podrace, it definitely showcases Force ability.

>2. You're right. But he doesn't do any training on any of the PT movies whatsoever.
Because again, we don't need to see training. The films aren't focused on Anakin's training, but him as a character changing.

>3. Except he goes back to being a happy kid when he ACCIDENTALLY blows up the TF ship.

TPM doesn't have a theme. There's no discovery, no friendship, no romance, no adventure, no bonding, nothing. TPM would have been a better film if it had at least ONE of these themes. Why don't Anakin and Obi-Wan bond or talk? Why doesn't Anakin ever train his Force abilities? Why does Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon's relationship feel dead? How? He still feels like the same kid from before. Compare that to Luke, who went from a kid with hopes and dreams to the hero of the Rebellion. He actually got somewhere. Anakin didn't, he's given a lightsaber because he's the Chosen One.

Does not. He's happy, but not exactly the same kind as he was on Tatooine.

Anakin goes from a kid with hopes and dreams to a hero of Naboo who gets his wish of being accepted into Jedi training fulfilled.

Luke goes from an whiny kid to a mature young man. Anakin goes from scared little boy to a manbaby. You're right, he does change.

www.ew.com/article/2016/11/15/star-wars-rogue-one-k2so-viper-droid-empire-strikes-back

tl;dr - Kaytoo's brand of droid is related, as a design-cousin, to the torture droids the Empire uses, and the scouting droid used at the start of ESB.
>>
>>87710340
Maybe, or maybe not. Vader was the Sith Lord on the scene, after all, and he got a second chance. It wasn't until on top of the Death Star that Luke and company took out a major Imperial war factory that Vader got the boot. Tagge, well, his failure was actually worse than Tarkin's. It is one thing to put the Empire at risk, but putting the Emperor himself? He's lucky it was Vader who dealt with him. I doubt the Emperor would have been so swift.

The Death Star having a major design flaw exploited by the Rebellion could have been parsed beyond being a personal failure, especially when it was only pointed out to him moments before it was used. If he evacuated and the Death Star was blown up he would be prudent. If he evacuated and it didn't blow up he'd only need to order a certain degree of executions before the matter is very forcefully dropped. Even troopers would quickly learn to bite their tongue before it's ripped out for them.

He's not. In Anakin's own words and from what we've seen, Obi-wan is overly critical and does not listen to Anakin. He's more attached to the Jedi Code than the Force itself. Qui-Gon even tells the Jedi Council Obi-Wan is very stubborn and has much to learn. He was an improper parental figure for Anakin and it shows.

Additionally, Anakin is suffering from horrific and vivid visions of his mother dying. Combined with the fact the Jedi Order openly admits their distrusts, he's in a very fragile position. He snaps at Padme in AOTC but quickly apologizes for getting out of line. Anakin shows us his is capable, intelligent skillful but his emotions get the better of him which leads him to make irrational decisions.

>He never whines about Obi and the Council?
He complains but he is correct. As stated before, Obi-wan was not the suitable teacher for Anakin. He even admits this in ROTS and later canon material. He was too young and inexperienced himself. This is a major part of his character development as well. We see him turn into a caring and more parental Jedi training Luke. Anakin saved millions of lives including Jedi but was not included on the council despite being the Chosen One. It was outright respectful to put him on the council not as a master. The thing you're forgetting is they did it to manipulate him to speak to the chancellor.

I find it polarizing they never made him a master yet they trusted him enough to spy on an extremely important political figure. Why exactly are we suppose to feel bad for the Jedi if they act like douchebags to an already unlikable individual?
>>
>>87710955

Such as? Also you're still omitting how stubborn obi-wan was.

>Especially when he acts like this in front of a girl he likes
When? The only time Padme gets annoyed with Anakin is when he insists on security on Naboo. Other than that, she agrees with him the majority of the time.

>Let's also not forget he never changes from this. He's like this till the end
What? Anakin has matured very much into a man by the time in ROTS. The difference is he's carrying more emotional burdens. I dont think you're getting "immaturity" correct.
>>

That was one of the points of the prequels, was that the jedi had lost their way and were only marginally better than the sith
>>
>>87711269
>yet they trusted him enough to spy on an extremely important political figure
They didn't though. They were so desperate to get to Palpatine, they gambled everything on Anakin. They also had to ask Obi-Wan to ask Anakin to actually do it which I think is the worse because Obi was a respected council member already. It was real scumbag shit what they did.

She agreed that Obi-Wan was a very bad man? Wow. How did she become attracted to him btw?

Luke, did I ever tell you about your father's position as a Jedi? Your father was sent on numerous dangerous missions battling against the Sith, was made a Commander in the Clone Wars, trained his own padawan and even obtained a seat on the Jedi Council. The wise Mace Windu, however, didn't like the cut of his jib and refused to grant him the rank of Jedi Master, contributing to his betrayal and the destruction of the Republic. He was a melatonin-enriched friend

Those are not inherent signs of immaturity. As I stated before, they were perfectly justifiable.

>As for Obi-Wan, we never see any glimpse of Anakin's training, so as far as we know Anakin is just being whiny.
No, we see Obi-wan's behavior in TPM and AOTC. He's very stubborn, abrasive, and condescending. Again, Qui-Gon admits to these.

>She agreed that Obi-Wan was a very bad man? Wow.
What are you talking about? I was speaking about AOTC.

Perfectly justifiable? The Jedi didn't trust him because he's some kid that drunk Jedi took home with him. He also acts reckless with his powers and even says he wants more but he knows he shouldn't. So he even admits he acts immature and power-hungry.
>No, we see Obi-wan's behavior in TPM and AOTC. He's very stubborn, abrasive, and condescending. Again, Qui-Gon admits to these.
But we never see enough of this behavior. He also never interacts with Anakin in TPM, until the end that is. And again, we never get a glimpse of his stubborn training techniques with Anakin.
>What are you talking about? I was speaking about AOTC
Yeah, Padme is visibly annoyed with Anakin's constant whining about his teacher. It's a wonder how she fell for him.
>If you're having trouble with this character, the blame is on you for being retarded.
Or maybe this whole scenario is flat out badly written. Is anyone in the prequels likable or relatable? The movie gives you no reason to get close to Anakin or the so called "heroic" Jedi.

>The Jedi didn't trust him because he's some kid that drunk Jedi took home with him.
Completely incorrect. Qui-Gon was a very trusted and respected Jedi Master. He was not on the Jedi council only because he did not strictly follow the code. Obi-wan tells you this.

>he's some kid
Now, I know you're trolling. They knew he was amazingly strong in the Force but were afraid. They were also more concerned about a Sith Lord appearing more so than Anakin.

>He also acts reckless with his powers
In Attack of the Clones, not Revenge of the Sith. He handily beats Dooku and carries out every order to a t. The only time he gets reckless is when he gets cocky fighting Obi-Wan. Maul does the same thing in his position though.

>So he even admits he acts immature and power-hungry.
This has nothing to do with immaturity. He had Palpatine in his ear the entire time telling him he was suppose to be better. This is his mentor and parental surrogate by this point. He also knew the Jedi were deliberately holding him back, anon.

>But we never see enough of this behavior.
You must be blind to Obi-wan's character development. But since you're trolling I'm ignoring this.

>Yeah, Padme is visibly annoyed with Anakin's constant whining
Completely incorrect. Padme was very much in love with Anakin and constantly attracted to him. This very clear when they're alone going to Naboo and the scenes following it.

>The movie gives you no reason to get close to Anakin or the so called "heroic" Jedi.
His character went completely over your head.

The only point of the Aftermath trilogy is to show how the galaxy transitions from Empire and Rebellion to New Republic and no Empire. Everything else inbetween is just filler story (Akiva, Kashyyyk). Jakku (in Empire's End) is just the end of the transition.

Bloodline mentions that the late Republic and early Empire broke down outdated vessels using the assets to create Star Destroyers and other ships. But then again by ROTS Acclamators were pretty outdated because the Venator could do their job better and with superior firepower. It's not a big stretch they were sent back to the shipyards to be turned into Venators.

Also, the novel pretty much confirms that the scene where Galen Erso is taken with Jyn running away is years after the Clone Wars as opposed to during or immediately after. So progression of Imperial aesthetic is indeed gradual as opposed to immediate, and it took place some time after he became Director, which explains the Death Troopers.

That's why they worked very hard to find out the identity of this Sith Lord. Oh wait, no they didn't. They got this kid they were afraid of to do the investigation for them......more than a decade later.
>He handily beats Dooku and carries out every order to a t.
Except he still acts on his own like refusing to listen to Obi-Wan as he pushes ahead like in that elevator scene. Funny thing, Obi-Wan himself also makes some incredibly stupid decisions, like attacking Grievous before the Clone Army could engage the robots.
>This has nothing to do with immaturity. He had Palpatine in his ear the entire time telling him he was suppose to be better.
Didn't he say he shouldn't want more power before we see any interaction between him and Sheev? Honestly not sure, the movie is hard to remember even after I nitpick it to hell.

The problem is it takes a long time for books to be written (unless you are Wendig and write it in 40 days). I'm sure the LSG didn't want to spill any more details about post-ROTJ than they had to for books already out. Now that we're nearing a year after TFA, we might have more hope seeing post-ROTJ books being freely written now that the timeline is being explored.

They both look like shit to be honest.

That's mostly because the creature designers actually paid deep attention to how the arena creatures would move in real life, even going so far as to give them skeletons and assign movements based on said skeletal structure. The arena creatures were probably as complete as you could make them. They cared. They probably did the same with the varactyls in III

Does anyone else think this Jedi looks pants on head retarded. You think midichlorians were intelligent enough to pick aliens with a low chance of getting decapitated.

Pretty much this. TFA had to work with pesky real environments.

They used a lot of the same techniques. Real sets and green screen.

The only thing I am not aware of TFA using, at least I've never seen them posted, is miniature model environments.

>The only thing I am not aware of TFA using, at least I've never seen them posted, is miniature model environments.
I don't think it used any. Its environments were only made from on-location filming, sets, or CGI.
>>
>>87718078
Ah yes, the vaunted Guanvian Death Gang and Mr. "HAM SLOMO! YER A DER MERN!" Definitely the best part of the movie according to Rotten Tomatoes consensus.
>>
>>87718101
Yeah they really wouldn't need it given they had no real need of alien environments to be crafted. Their buildings weren't all that fantastic either.
>>
>>87718101
It's impressive, really, though they put a lot of effort into making some pretty mundane environments

A common story regarding the prequels is that Ewan McGregor would keep making his own lightsaber noises as he fought.

2015 scene also had really pissed off Rolling Spaghetti Monsters that looked really stupid.

JJ got so caught up in recycling the entire Original Trilogy that he forgot to recycle the Cloverfield Monster design like he's done in every other sci-fi project he's been involved with the last 10 years.

McGregor, as dull as he was, actually did very well in his scenes. I think he had it the worst when it comes to walking into empty rooms and pretending like he's supposed to be in some freaky clusterfuck world.

He probably felt he hadn't learned enough Sith stuff from him. He seemed like he was being really careful and biding his time in regards to betraying Sidious.

Being old than most of the Sith we see, it makes sense that he'd be more cautious.

Not that it matters, he still got punked.

He was actually pretty good at it. His problem was that he completely overestimated how much Sidious needed him, which he felt was his safeguard against suddenly being killed.
