It needs to be animated. Something that goes nuts with medium blending.

Like using the comic as a starting off point, have the real world as a standard CG realm, Figment and the world of Imagination be 2D animation, and incorporate stop motion into a "Falling down the rabbit hole" sequence (set to Magic Journeys) and the Nightmare Nation. That or finally put the Paperman system to work in a full length feature.

A story about creativity just seems like a natural way of showcasing everything animation can do and we could really use something from Disney with Fantasia-level ambition again. Not to mention that live-action fantasy films just all look the goddamn same. And the last thing a Figment movie should look like is fucking Oz The Great and Powerful or Burtonland
>>
>>87692109
Whole point of it is Del Toro wants to erase the Eddie Murphy shitstain from memory and do something that better captures the tone of the ride. Also, he started it as a means to prod Disney into bringing Hatbox Ghost back because he's a giant Mansion fanboy.

CGI is the logical progression of animation. If the animators back then had access to it they would've ignored 2D animation for it.

I think they'll be incredibly faithful to the characters. I have no doubt in my mind that the toys will be some 1990 issue of each character, and then when they're animated they're more like their usual animated selves.

No really, why?. Seems like all humanity run out of imagination. Is the internet to blame?.
>>
>>87700521
Not the internet, blame social media sites and Google for selling information they gathered from our search histories, subscription/browser data to Disney market researchers, who than run the data through their models and coming to the conclusion that the majority of their targeted demographics WANT rehashes or re-imagining of old shit.
>>
>>87696563

Not true. For film maybe, but for TV disney was always behind. Looney Tunes and Tom & Jerry and other stuff had a lot of appeal and attention. They never tried to make shorts to elevate the art form. They all kind of did the same stuff.
>>
>>87700521
It's not a lack of imagination, it's a lack of money. Films are huge risks and no one goes to the movies anymore so major companies only want to do hard established properties. And it's funnily an oroboros, part of the reason no one goes anymore is because tickets are so expensive but the high price are the only way anyone makes any money.
Eventually you'll just pay for a disney streaming service where they'll release most of their shit
Movie theatres will all become specialized like Alamo Drafthouse (and some other gimmicks I'm sure, a mystery science theatre thing where they have comedians do riffs on shit movies stuff like that)
However it is possible that in 15 years or so when a lot of this guard of old penny pinching executives and producers die/retire we'll see a new Renaissance like the one in the early 1970s

Blame copyright/Disney.

The public domain well has basically dried up and nobody wants to make something original in fear of it being too similar to something else because of lawsuits. So everyone is just playing it safe with reboots, remakes and sequels.

It's really very true. People want the thing they like again and again. We see it every day on here with people bitching about Civil War not having Captain America die by Crossbones like "muh comics" or how they need to reboot transformers and do a direct adaptation of the original G1 episodes. Or so on... As many people that bitch and moan over reboots and remakes, you have as many people clamoring for "shot for shot" adaptations of what they already have in one form.

I don't get it cause it's not what I want. I see Harry Potter fans demanding a reboot, people saying the only thing ASM2 got "right" was killing Gwen Stacy, it's just utter insanity to me they hold their original work like a damn bible. That quality of the product isn't important. Originality certainly isn't either. As long as the moments and things they remember from it are translated to trigger their nostalgia, they're happy....though apparently, ideally, it'd be exactly the same only animated, or live action or what have you for that rehash. It's why some people loved Star Wars episode 7 and some did not.
