Damian being a tosser is what makes him such a good character.

He's a kid who was raised in the most fucked up conditions, he knows how social interactions work and how to exploit them but not how to experience them himself. He's got chronic hubris because 99% of the time he is correct. But his inability to compromise and work with people means that he often ends up alienating possible allies and creating antagonists.

/co/ likes to make it a choice between the two, but IMO they are both great, flawed, characters.

I still have a problem with Damian as a character.
Mostly the fact that he's Bruce's biological kid.
One of the biggest appeals of the Bat family is the fact that not a single one of them was blood related. It was important that they shared this intimate familial bond based solely on their experiences together with no blood ties.
But then they introduce this test tube little bastard spawn and parade him around like he's the hottest thing just because he's batman's "real son", spitting in the face of every Robin that came before him.
And ignoring the fact that his upbringing gave him the moral compass of a vulture, he doesn't have any sense of humility or discipline, which you could typically expect from The League of Assassin's, but I can only assume he was so smothered by pappy Ra's he never learned any better.
I can hardly blame terrible writing when the character already has so much working against him.
