It's weird when the show was running this pairing was a god damn juggernaut. I mean roughly half the fanbase had to have been rooting for this pairing and roughly %90 of the fangirls were swooning for Zuko. But these all I see are the bitter and hurt fragments of the Avatar fanbase that seem bitter and angsty that Zuko and Zutara were ever a thing.

Couldn't really tell you why Zutara was so big, probably just the usual good girl/ bad boy thing. Though ironically in the end Zuko mellowed out right around the time Katara became a huge cunt in late season 2 and season 3.

But Zuko himself just had stronger connections to the main enemies and final villain. Plus he was a huge underdog which people go crazy for, he easily could have become another Anakin Skywalker who everyone mocked for being whinny and pathetic.

Either they self insert into the female and ship her with their opinion of the best guy, or they drop the female altogether and go for the gay ship.
