Problem with the Empire is the structure of their leadership. They promote based on evil and species rather than competence. One of the only exceptions is Thrawn, who had to be so ridiculously exceptional that it was almost insane, and even then got shipped out to the backwater most of the time.

I like the idea that Jaune doesn't need to be a great fighter, but is an amazing strategist and tactician, the only issue is M&K are terrible at showing it. His plan to just hit the golem harder was just shit.

I remeber playing a good character in an evil campaign.

Installed myself as leader and pretty much forced the party into doing good and heroic shit for the land while making them think i was the evilest asshole alive.
It was a fun game.

Jaune was written to be similar in many ways to Ruby with the key difference that they react differently to events. This helps give contrast to their character. He's also a civilian most of his life instead of a hunter.

Ruby being strong in that instance while Jaune was the one that gets affected by seeing a place he used to visit as a kid destroyed made sense and is in-line with the whole 'Ruby is the ideal hunter who never breaks and dusts herself off after failure' thing they seem to be pushing.

I don't think it's healthy either but I think it did form her into who she is. Just not in the way you'd expect. Tragedy just makes her seem to become more idealistic instead of negative. Quantifying tragedy and claiming one person is more fitting to grieve than the other seems so silly. People react differently because they're different. And it's not like the guy had no good reason to grieve because he did. If he were complaining about not having fast wifi or some silly shit then I can understand. Your close friend dying, your new life getting turned upside down and a place from your childhood being destroyed seem like good reasons to voice your complaint especially when you're new to the job of being a hunter.
