Shit has gotten much, much worse quality-wise, there's no denying that. As a teacher I usually get to see what's popular around kids first-hand, whether games or cartoons. I can assure you that most of the younger kids enjoy garbage like the new Powerpuff girls and low-cost CGI shows like "Kong: King of the Apes" which one of my classes was obsessed with for a while.

Kids these days have an almost unlimited access to cartoons, especially via streaming services like netflix. The slightly older ones are as you'd probably expect really into Star Wars, and Star Wars Rebels has a pretty big following with the 10-13 year-olds. The weird part is, you'd think a larger selection to choose from would mean higher quality as the different studios try to compete.

But no, the quality just keep dropping because the kids really have no standards whatsoever. They really don't. Kids don't demand quality (nor know what is and isn't good). That's why the animators and story writers has all the more reason to make a good product. They grew up with much better stuff than what they make. So it makes you wonder, what is the young generation going to create when THEY get older?

Your post is more of a network problem than cartoons really. It's hard to make good cartoons in American because they just gets canceled very early on. The serious stuff get shit on pretty hard by networks(very little advertising, no promoting, ect.) and it doesn't take much to loose your show(your work) to networks over the stupidest bull shit. Nickelodeon is another example of bull shit you have to put up with if you're working for them, they cancel cartoons that are actually good and popular just because they don't pull current Spongebob numbers, mind you it took spongebob 2 or 3 seasons just to get it to where it is now. This is pretty much why American cartoons are shit because no one want's to risk loosing their own hard work, their own ideas to shitty networks and businesses.

This is why people are starting to move to web series on youtube, hulu, netflex, ect. I tried giving Magiswords a chance and I sat through first few episodes.

It does not get better. Even once I got used to its pacing it became apparent that aside from RPG genre spoofs it has little to bring to the table. Its LOLRANDUM goofs get stale rather fast, especially after entire vast era of similar schticks.

"El Tigre" and "Wander over Yonder" managed to be entertaining with their cartoony quirkiness, but they also required the kind of people who are in a very limited supply even amongst the elite of animation industry.

Personally, I don't really buy the "Kids under 10 are all morons who eat up any garbage" idea that many people seem to think on here. I am 20 and I remember having some sort of taste as a little kid. I hated a lot of garbage cartoons like The Crash Twins, Squirell Boy, etc. I also realized that the mid 2000s Nick and CN was quickly dropping in quality compared to previous years. I admit, I did watch Catscratch, Mr Meaty, etc (and I do feel nostalgia towards them for some reason) but I couldn't say I thought they were amazing.. They were watchable filler that even as a kid I realized couldn't hold a candle to older shows like pre-movie Spongebob or Hey Arnold. Even nowadays, I only realized that stuff like Chowder and Flapjack were good as an adult. When I was a middle schooler I remember sitting around complaining about CN going down the toilet just like everyone else.

Now, kids under 6? They have no taste. I liked post-movie PPG and post-redesign Dexter's Lab when I was 5 or 6. As an adult? They're completely unwatchable and awful. But kids between 8 and 10? They have more taste then people say.

Chowder and Flapjack were not that good, the issue was that with Titan we were supposed to be getting a very high end anime (think "makes Dennou Coil look like Sazae-San" in terms of budget) that was the Freakazoid of mech shows but instead got a botched snooze fest because CN did not want to pay TMS for the episodes they made and TMS & Dezaki never recovered from it, Dezaki never redeemed himself and died before CN sold the rights back to TMS in 2014.

Even with Blue Jacket TMS never recovered from Titan, at least TMS got the rights back in the same way that Nick can keep it's own Doug when any future Doug things can only be made by Disney.
