>Universal Pictures Chairman Donna Langley met with workers at DreamWorks Animation’s Glendale headquarters Thursday to confirm that production of “The Croods 2” was being stopped immediately.

>Some 30 employees who have been working on the film, launched 3 1/2 years ago, will be looking for new jobs. The workers were told DreamWorks Animation hopes to keep them at the company. Some could be shifted to other film projects, while others might be put into training or “artistic development” programs, according to an individual at Universal, who asked not to be named.

>Trouble was already evident in August, when the companies announced that an expected 2017 release would be pushed back into 2018.

...New sexy Eep? W-what do you mean?
>>
>>87640122
Eep, one of the main characters of the movie, is a muscular yet feminine qt ginger monkey girl who leaps around in a form-fitting backless minidress. Having hardly any social skills, she doesn't attempt at all to hide her lust for the relatable main human character. Presumably a sequel would have more of that, but better. More leaping. More skin. More poorly handled arousal.

I honestly don't care if it was good for what it was

>>
>all this hate for the Croods
Man, I want in ready to hate the movie, but it really won me over. It wasn't at the same level of Shrek, Kung-fu Panda or HTTYD, but I'd say it's a high-tier Dreamworks. It was really enjoyable and the father's emotional bits were done pretty well.

That being said I'm not mourning the loss of a sequel. I liked the first one, but for a movie like the Croods, I wouldn't put much confidence into their ability to make a good sequel. I'm shocked HTTYD2 and Kung-fu Panda sequels turned out as good as they did.
>>
>>87640462
Same. I'd put right above Shrek and below the Dragon and Panda movies, but I had no faith in their ability to make a good Croods sequel.

>>87639045
It's just oart of the business. Some guy spent five years on an animated adaptation of Cats before Spielberg cancelled it.

>>
The film was enjoyable but, by lord, the character designs are UGLY. Poor Sanders. His art style was adapted so poorly here. Disney did it fine so why can't Dreamworks?
>>
>>87642134
Over saturated market. Demographic that busied themselves watching movies after movies with little else to keep them occupied. The bait is getting stale but we keep eating it anyway.
>>
>>87642202
Movie execs get rock fucking hard over comic relief characters. I'm not really sure why, children didn't go to the croods so they can see some shitty sloth doing funny animal things and I'm pretty sure no child will ever walk out of the movie saying "golly gee, sloth was sure my favourite character!" (I know I sure as fuck didn't give a shit about any of the comic relief characters when I was a kid), but the execs will continue pushing for a character like that to be in every fucking animated movie because, who the fuck knows.
>>
>>87642484

I think Lilo and Stitch is the only movie hes ever done where they stuck to his original designs.

Agreed. Croods doesn't need a sequel. It didn't even need the last 10 minutes of its ending.
>>
I love this movie so much. It tells a great story about humanity, nature (even with the fantasy elements of the animals and environment), progress, family, and the father character is a great example of portraying a man getting over his own pride while still having the best intentions throughout.

IMO the story maybe should have ended with the death of the father, but the way it actually ended was nice too. I feel like a sequel featuring them just hanging out with animal buddies or something would be pretty weak, but Dreamworks has surprised me before.

When people say this, have they actually watch the movie?
It uses colors in a Kung Fu Panda-esque way; the blandness represents their secluded and withdrawn way of life and is that way so it can be contrasted by the vibrancy of the world around them representing Guy's way of life.

>>

They've always been like that. Dreamworks has never cared about artistic integrity or whatever. They make movies solely to be franchises. Uh oh, it didn't make million in both domestic AND foreign box office? DEAD! Toys didn't sell? DEAD!

Imagine if you spent 3.5 years of your life on a project only to be told it was being thrown in the trash.

I know work isn't always fun or rewarding but that'd be enough to break any artist's psyche.
>>
>>87648045

They get paid, you know. It's a job.

>>
>>87648125

>movie about farting dogs

Considering Secret Life of Pets was a hit, I wouldn't be surprised if Dreamworks is actually doing that now.
>>
>>87648125

I think the artists at Dreamworks are at least a bit passionate about their work. You're telling me you'd help create the best CGI animation in the world and not feel at least a little proud of it?

Plus, you spend that long on a project this involved, you're gonna feel invested no matter what. All the effort you went through to organize things, the coordinated efforts of your team wasted.

Pixar is going to get undercut on their Incredibles rehash by Dreamworks.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hot_Stuff_the_Little_Devil#Film

By April 2014, DreamWorks Animation was developing a live-action/CGI film based on the character with Lizzie and Wendy Molyneux set to write it. It will be the first DreamWorks Animation film to use live-action and computer-animation.[2] It will be the second DreamWorks animated film to feature characters from the Classic Media library; the first being Mr. Peabody & Sherman.

I think I figured out why they killed it.

You see, Croods started development back when Aardman was still at Dreamworks. But when they broke up, Dreamworks took the concept with them and kept poking around at it until we got the Sanders movie.

But now, Aardman's making another caveman movie. Between that and their ever shifting priorities, a Croods sequel probably looked expendable as far as projects to give the ax in favor of the big "Reboot Shrek" plans.
