Hey, what the hell's a tiger-force?
>>
>>87624249
It's not as well defined as the speed-force, but it's more or less the innate instinct in all living things to kill.
>>
>>87624249
Have you ever wanted to rip another person's throat out with your bare teeth? Tigerforce.
>>
>>87624249
ask Charlie Sheen. He will tell you
>>
>>87624428
>>87624410
And you're telling me that that's what Darkseid is?
Sick.
>>
>>87624580
Yeah, he is the ultimate negativity. The opposite of hope and life and freedom. Which is why it's dumb when Superman punches him out desu. Or Batman "tricks" him.
>>
>>87624410
>>87624428

Kill just for the hell of it? Or more in some evolutionary sense, like a predator instinct, or an animal that kills for resources?
>>
>>87624580
Oh anon, to limit Darkseid as just the tigerforce would be blasphemy, he's so much more. He IS!
>>
>>87624620
Jobberseid is the worst 'Seid.
>>
A similar, if not identical, concept came up in the Spider-Man manga.
I blame the Hypercrisis.

The Spider-Man manga.
I wish all the story arcs didn't end in such a shitty way.
I wish we got to see more classic villains.
And I wish the manga didn't end so soon- just when Yu got a troubled short-haired waifu.

DARKSEID IS!
>>

Predator instinct. Darkseid is basically the embodiment of humanity's drive to trample everything in our paths to fulfill our own selfish goals.
>>
What if though, and bear with me on this, it's an elemental dimensional-force that is literally composed of live tigers.
>>
>>87625991
I feel Apokolips would have more of a tiger motive in her architecture then. Sadly there isn't

The closest Kanto has gotten to being relevant was in Ostrander's Martian Manhunter series, where he's the in charge of a bunch of Apokoliptian experiments and is actually badass enough to trade blow with MM for a while.

I don't know why DC isn't all over him though. Dude's the closest thing there is to a god of assassins. Give him a cooler costume and you could have Deathstroke whose wankery is actually justifiable.

In Suicide Squad he assassinates Count Vertigo, but Vertigo manages to hang on and stab Kanto to death with Kanto's own knife before he passes out.
>>
>>87624580

Nahh. The 'Tiger Force' is just the apex predator - the absolute alpha, the top of the food chain. In the jungle, that's the tiger. In the Multiverse it's Darkseid. Or so he claims.
>>

>>

To the contrary. Superman IS the opposite of Darkseid. He may be so-and-so powerful, but the New Gods are archetypes... and so is Superman.

>>87628295

Darkseid once called him a 'preening clotheshorse'. So I guess he's a male model.
>>
>>87628771
Darkseid can usually bring people back to life at-will, at least on Apokolips.
>>
>>87628852
>>87628181
Where is our Hunter S. for Trump, eh.
>>
>>87628771
Darkseid casually resurrects his henchmen whenever he has a need for them. There's a funny scene in NG vol 2 where he kills Desaad and Kalibak in a fit of rage. He then pauses and goes "Sigh, I guess I'll have you bring you both back to life. AGAIN."
>>
>>87628384

...Well... Infinity-Man is one of the most powerful beings in the DC universe.
>>
>>87628877
But when you ask someone "Did this assassin assassinate someone" and they answer with "they were assassinated" then it's pathetic no matter what.
>>
>>87628819
Mister Miracle is the opposite of Darkseid.
>>
>>87628919
Darkseid really has a lot of opposites, depending on how you look at him.

it's a shame Hunter killed himself, we really could have used his wit and venom in this day and age(my god can you imagine what he'd be saying about Trump)

Will there ever be someone again capable of writing with a certain pathos, like Kirby?

I wonder what he would have made of the current president-elect.

Hah. The world being what it is, I am reminded of a quote from a Neil Gaiman story: "Since you [Augustus] we have had emperors who were evil, mad and foolish, and now we have one who is all three."
>>
>>87628932
I like the Darkseid - Orion - Mister Miracle parallels best. Force of ultimate oppression opposed by the force of ultimate freedom, and resisted by the force of ultimate strength (but that carries its own warning....).

But sure, "Hope" Superman is a legitimate opposite. I still don't like it when he just punches Darkseid down. It's got to be better than that.
>>
>>87628871
when darkseid brings people back he can't bring back their souls because he doesn't believe in souls

so they come back as the cheap chinese knockoff versions. useless, 1 dimensional versions of themselves that just spout their catchphrases.

its funny because thats basically what modern writers have turned the characters into

Well, that was Kirby's original intention anyway. Later writers chucked it for the sake of expediency.

I sort like though. The idea that he doesn't allow their souls to return to the Source and instead traps them in his service forever.

"I will drag you to a hell without exit or end, and there I will murder your souls."

The thing about Darkseid is that he believes the universe should bow to you because you MAKE it bow down with the force of your own will, blood and sweat. In the Hunger Dogs Esak offers him an easy, comfy victory in the form of advanced technology and he hates it because it cuts against every principle he holds.

So drone warfare is actually more evil than Darkseid. Spread the word.

Funny, that's exactly what I thought would happen if Clinton get elected as the "lesser evil". Even if she didn't start WWIII, she would be emblamatic of the complete abandonment of the working class by the Democratic party in favor of rich bankers and identity politics.

If Trump doesn't run the country into the ground or trigger a civil war in the next 4 years, the liberal side will be stronger for it. We'll have gotten rid of the old, corrupt, and out of touch Clintonistas, and we'll have fresh faced politicians to run, the same way Clinton was a breath of fresh air 20 years ago.

She wasn't going to make an agreement, she was going to unilaterally attempt a no fly zone to reverse the course of the Syrian civil war.

Thank you, that was a treat.
Kirby was a delightful nutter.

>Ukraine was a Munich moment, it'll only get worse from hereon out.
Look I'm not happy with Russian foreign policy either, but let's stop a few streets short of comparing them with the Nazis.
>>
>>87629755
>Nixon was willing to make a threat to bomb the whole fucking world if he had to.

So you're saying Hillary Clinton is Nixonian?

>Aleksandr Dugin, look him up.

Jesus Christ, Rasputin is back.
>>
>>87629691

Let's hope you're not the only one who sees it.

Frankly it's starting to look like that movie where George Clooney is a fisherman. That didn't end well, did it?
>>
>>87629811
>So you're saying Hillary Clinton is Nixonian?
Like, every president since Reagan was worse than Nixon when it came to foreign policy.

Nixon actually did FP really well.
>>
>>87629804
Yeah, we can compare them to the Commies instead.
>>
>>87629804
Why? The reasoning of Ukraine is the reasoning of Czechoslovakia in 1939. Russia has a complexity of truth unequaled in the West (all fascism has this complexity of truth) and they expect no better of anyone than what they have themselves. The reasoning of Ukraine can be the reasoning of Finland, Latvia, Estonia, Romania, etc, etc. What is the block that makes you think they can't do what they've already done, again?
>>
>>87629861
And look, it's not about destroying or indicting Russia. The Weimar Russia is the most dangerous Russia. But you have to pressure and oppose when they push - rolling over is an invitation.
>>
>>87629804
Everyone makes the Nazi parralels, but I'd compare the back and forth between the broad catagories of Left and Right holds more similarity to the run up to the Spanish Civil War.
>>
>>87629734

Oh... you mean shafting Sanders.

Yeah. Yeah.

...Historically, that move may be judged like the Sarajevo shooting.

"They like strong leaders"

No fucking shit. Their national anthem should be the Masochist's Tango.

You're welcome for the storytime. I like New Gods.

>>87629802

It might have worked. A lot of people are dying because it wasn't tried. But yeah... who knows what the Russians might do. Although God knows why they're still supporting Assad. Do they really mean to keep him in power after all this?

>>87629804

...The difference is not that great anymore. Aleppo isn't all that different from Guernica.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aleksandr_Dugin

Yikes.
>>
>>87629048
How do you think he compares in that Justice League cartoon? Aside from some dumb stuff, like Batman dodging his Lazer beams, I thought he was nothing if not an entertaining villain.
>>
>>87629884
>>87629898
You have to look at Nazism's Aryan ideal with Russia these days selling itself as the true voice of White Christian Masculinity too.
>>
>>87629755
>Aleksandr Dugin

>The former posits an ongoing archetypal clash between land and maritime civilizations and holds that there is a struggle between, on the one hand, harmonious, land-based societies organized around history and tradition and, on the other, inherently liberal, “Atlanticist” “empires of the sea,” whose capitalistic drive abhors and undermines tradition.

Makes sense.
>>
>>87629837
He wasn't bad with foreign policy. He made Vietnam worse, (and Cambodia too) but he pulled us out of there in the end.

And he opened up China, which has proven good for the Chinese, if not so good for the American worker.

>>87629898
>Oh... you mean shafting Sanders.

...what else would I be referring to?

>No fucking shit. Their national anthem should be the Masochist's Tango.

kek, true. And now that song is stuck in my head, thanks.

>Do they really mean to keep him in power after all this?

Who would they replace him with?
>>
>>87629963
It's a convenient us vs. them. Might as well talk about Alpines and Nordics.
>>
>>87629861

Because none of the places you listed were integral parts of Russian territory handed over to Ukraine during an administrative simplification exercise during the Soviet Union? Also, as far as I'm aware, no-one of the Baltic states host the Russian Black sea fleet, and none of them had held two referendums in the 90's about whether to become independent or join Russia that were condemned as illegal.

It's kind of amazing that people seem to think that history began at Munich and ended at Yalta.
>>
>>87629498
Trump's proposals are absolute horse shit. He doesn't have the power to do half the things he's promised.

"OH I'm gonna write a law that says mexico has to give us money" yeah how exactly do you think he's going to enforce that.

He's a boob. He'll be the republican Carter and in 4 years we can all get on with our lives.
>>
>>87630037
Well, we'll see. I expect aggression through until January and a Trump-Putin deal in 2017. This time we'll begin at Yalta.

the weird thing is Johns Darkseid was REALLY GOOD for like two pages in Darkseid War
>>
>>87629996

Not really. Think about how the barrier of an Ocean impacted Japan and the United Kingdom, and think how the lack of such a barrier has impacted China and Russia historically.
>>
>>87629861
Ukraine and Czechoslovakia are not the same in any sense brah. Russia was perfectly happy with Ukraine being Ukraine until Ukraine gave them a giant middle finger. I won't argue that it was an entirely valid middle finger or that the Russian response was justified, but in the Russian eyes it was a middle finger nonetheless.

The thing with Russia is that they are an entirely reactive country with severe cultural PTSD. They abhor rivals at their borders and are freaking out over NATO being invited into countries next to them regardless of the actual reasons and are desperate to push them back. Their entire political history revolves around them trying to create buffers between themselves and everyone else That's their overriding political imperative, nevermind dreams about new empires and other bullshit. And that's what makes matching their posturing so dangerous. If you want to effectively deal with the Russians you have to both stand up their provocations but ALSO make it clear to them that you're not actually a threat. That's a very fine line to walk on.
>>
>>87630042

The law would be "Transferring money out of the US requires proof that the transferror is in the US legally. And then a list of fines and punishment for anyone violating that or facilitating violation.

That law would do more damage to Mexico's economy than if the Cartels seized the entire oil sector, and threatening to implement it would be the 'or else' for a border security deal.

Seriously people. He did explain this.
>>
this is almost a /tg/ thread in its topics
>>
>>87630207
I forgot I wasn't on /tg/ honestly. I have this open next to it, and apparently am easily tricked by 'looking away for three seconds'
>>
>>87630164

The other thing that's worth remembering: Ukraine Joining NATO would be like New England joining the Warsaw Pact. It would a) make the country totally indefensible and b) be a crushing psychological blow to anyone with a passing familiarity to US history.
>>
>>87630195
Not that law. I mean the one he promised in his first 100 days that forces mexico to pay for the meme wall.

And no shit it would damage mexico's economy. But how goddamn sustainable do you think an economy that relies on entering countries illegally and stealing their labor is?
>>
>>87630195
And as a result do incredible damage to our economy through the trade Mexico will rescind as a result.

"Mexico is currently our 3rd largest goods trading partner with $531 billion in total (two way) goods trade during 2015. Goods exports totaled $236 billion; goods imports totaled $295 billion. The U.S. goods trade deficit with Mexico was $58 billion in 2015."
From ustr.gov

It'll wreck their economy too, but it'll hurt ours just as much. And there's good odds that the law you mention will wreck our economy *as* it wrecks theirs, by itself.
>>
>>87630087
I recommend it if you can watch it somewhere. First season's rough, but it hits its stride pretty quick.
>>
>>87630444
And that's on top of the trade war with China he seems to be gunning for
>>
>>87630481
That has to happen some time. China IS a currency manipulator. Ask any economist.
>>
>>87630444
Just because we trade a lot of shit doesn't mean it's good or beneficial trade. Mexican famers get fucked over because our crops are cheaper, and our factory workers get fucked over because their labor is cheaper.
>>
>>87629454
i just spat my water thank you anon. may darkseid spare you a moment longer than everyone else
>>
>>87630088
johns was able to make darkseid very physically imposing, which is good on one hand, but he lacked the gravitas, EXCLUDING, the pages i assume youre talking about with Scott's great escape from Apokalypse, which was most excellent. also fuck Johns for changing Scott's name to Scot, there was no need to be so on the nose, its almost insulting.
>>
>>87630731
I rather dislike the towering, gargantuan Darkseid.

I'm not sure about Kirby average human height Darkseid either. I think something like 7ft tall is where it's at.
>>
>>87630815
i do agree, i havent liked him being about 13 feet for the entirety of new52, but you can't deny he's a scary mofo that tall. it just reduces him, in my opinion, to some hulking alien baddie, when he should have more gravitas. but that is just not muh darkseid. 7-9 feet is kosher for me. the only reason i would want him over 7 feet too is just so he can be a bit taller than Barda, but not, and i quote, "two aquamans" tall.
>>
>>87630870
I'd say somewhere around 8ft is good, makes him taller than almost any human, but not something impossible either, as horrid as he is, Darkseid should always have a "human" element to him
>>
Who is responsible for making New Gods not feel like actual Gods?
I feel like that they lost their worth overtime.
>>
>>87633077
Ultimately Kirby fanboys who loved it so much that they wanted his toys in their playbox. And aside from the efforts of a few like Simonson who at least aspired to a very very good Karaoke Kirby, they only ended up diluting the concept. They went from metaphorical concepts and ideas given human form into just another thing for the Justice League to punch. Like the King himself said, create something new rather than just rehashing the same old shit everyone's seen before.
>>

>>
>>87633077
I know some people blame Superman TAS and the Justice League cartoon for depowering Darkseid from Evil God to guy Superman beats up in the season finale.

I'm not sure about the timeline of that becoming the case in the comics. Loebs run on Superman-Batman is in there though.
>>
>>87630731

I like the idea of Promethean New gods, but they need to be more Galactus sized or bigger with Boom Tube size manipulations for some occasions.

Tiger-force is when you get mauled to death by a creature and you cry out "oh god help me I'm being mauled to death by a (insert creatures name)".
>>
>>87624249
I've always seen it as being a metaphor for a tiger's wants. A tiger sees what it wants and ceases at nothing to actually get it, doing everything it can, up to and including horrific violence. A tiger-force is the frightening will, the never-ending burning drive and willingness to fuck someone's shit up to get what you desire.

Even though it sounds badass as fuck, I've always felt like the tiger was a little weak to compare himself to. I mean, tiger's are badass but it's kind of inapt for a dictator like Darkseid.
