I thought "Hurt" was used really well actually.

The song is essentially about a tired, weak old man looking back at his life with regret. Plus Cash's version also has that western feel to it, which is obviously what they're trying to go for.

It's used a lot, but it's been around almost as long as X-Men movies, so you'd expect that of a high-profile cover version by a popular artist. It was also used in the last episode of Rick & Morty, because it's a go-to song for tryhards who want to signal how seriously you should be taking their stories.

I guess they decided "Bad to the Bone" was a little on the nose and "O Fortuna" wasn't cowboy-y enough for a road movie.

There's no list of trailers that have used a particular song, but since it's a 13 year old popular recording it has undoubtedly been used multiple times in high profile trailers. Trailers aren't indexed anywhere (like imdb), the best you can do is lists produced by individuals. Asking for 13 years of data on trailers - which when you consider it's probably 3 or more per movie and god knows how many across a season of a tv show is probably in the thousands - and crying about it when nobody produces a detailed spreadsheet for you is the height of gauche.

Off the top of my head it's been used in several video game trailers, including an official in-house trailer (ie one not intended for the marketing push, which was released anyway) for Gears of War 3. Happy now? Thought not. There's also a strong tendency for video game trailers re-backed with the track to turn up on YouTube, Vimeo etc.
