Season 20 was a mistake.

>take one episode's worth of jokes
>stretch it out between 10 episodes by reusing them
>call it an "arc"
>completely misread the political climate and the reasons for its current state

>>completely misread the political climate and the reasons for its current state
they didn't though. trump barely won in a lot of states. it was a bad call not a complete misread
>>
>>87598189

Well, if they bought into the "OMG Hillary has a 99 percent chance of winning" bullshit, then yeah I'd have to call that a complete misread
>>
>>87598189

LOL, Matt and Trey completely fucked up this season, why is so hard to admit?
>>
>>87598508
they probably just went off what their bookie said as he was right for obama

>>87598564
because im not a triggered /pol/cuck upset they made fun of trump?
>>
>>87598508
Personally I thought it was 60/40 and then 20 percent that Hillary needed to win didn't show up. This reminds me of brexit where people are mad after the fact yet they didn't even fucking vote.
>>
Why are they using real photos for some of the Denmark shots? Have they finally given into sheer laziness?
>>
Usually, South Park can cheer me up, but I am so depressed. Not that I liked Hillary Clinton at all, but we are so fucked in the ass. Instead of focusing on how Trump could actually fuck the world economy up, they focus more on Trump saying "problematic" things and PC outrage horseshit. Hillary does not know how to run a fucking campaign; she actually thought she had it. The DNC screwed Bernie, the person that could have beaten Trump. Now we're stuck with a guy who LITERALLY has no idea what we're doing. We're fucked. I made fun of liberal tears, but now upon further reflection I feel like crying myself.
>>
>>87598594

>>
>>87598609
If they said it they didn't stress it enough. They focused more on Trump's sexism/racism/misogyny/etc. than what tangible effect he'd have on the world. Completely skewed priorities
>>
>>87598600
Eurocuck here.
It happened to Iceland, Greece and Italy. Watching a country going bankrupt in real time is oddly satisfying. Don't forget, you wanted this to happen, you made it happen and you voted for it to happen.

>I'm not.
I know, just wanted to clarify my opinion

I wouldn't underestimate his negotiation powers.
Remember when he started off with a total muslim ban, which was reduced to extreme vetting from war-torn countries?
Remember when he started off saying all illegal immigrants would be deported, which turned into just the ones actively committing crimes?

It's literally the exact same thing as the business technique of starting off with an unreasonably high offer, then reducing it to what you ultimately wanted so that the other side thinks they had some control and made a compromise - when in reality you were in control the whole time and got exactly what you wanted. He treated the entire campaign as if it was a negotiation with the public and it worked. There's absolutely no reason to suggest he can't negotiate effectively with foreign leaders.

>One of the criticisms we heard about Trump early in the campaign is that he wouldn’t listen to experts. But now we have lots of examples in which he has done exactly that. His entire campaign has transformed in the past six weeks. We watched Trump assess the changing election dynamics, take advice from advisors, adapt his approach, and spike in the polls.

>Trump is also good at firing people. The smartest person I know told me that the most important skill of a leader is firing, not hiring. No one is smart enough to hire the right people every time, so firing is the more valuable skill. Trump apparently has that skill. Consider how hard it was to fire his longtime friend Corey Lewandowski, and later Paul Manafort. Trump pulled the trigger both times. And both moves proved to be helpful.

she had an 80-something chance of winning conditional on taking certain states, and in most of those that she needed and didn't get, the difference in the R/D vote was actually dwarfed by the vote for Captain Pot and Queen Homeopathy

the fact is, the low turnout was on Trump, and he won't get the grace period he's expecting; he got a lower number of votes than either of the last two failed Rep candidates in their own runs - the trend is downward; remember that, because when states start turning blue in the senate elections two years from now, it's going to surprise people who bought into the popular-front bullshit; Trump didn't even win the majority of the popular vote, just the most electoral college votes

yeah, OK, Hillary was partly responsible for people saying "i'll stay home" too - but so were the Bernie idiots, because even as Dem candidate he'd never have gotten more than 40% of the popular vote, and if he'd been candidate, all his own skeletons would be paraded around by now

but don't come away from this thinking "popular vote, landslide" because it's simply not true - people stayed away thinking it would probably go to Hillary and not wanting to be responsible for that, but also - and noticeably - staying away from voting Trump, even when they attended the polling for other votes being held at the same time, because he does not speak for Republican values

as for his popular front, well, "Mr Brexit" already rolled back his promises about muslims (because they're unconstitutional and he'd never get support) and he'll never actually build that damn wall because it's totally unaffordable

so from two years in he'll have a hostile senate - if he doesn't already, given the fingers he stepped on to get where he is - and a hostile public

you better hope ol' thin-skin toughens up some, he's not going to like it when his public rejects him as a phoney

I am kinda enjoying Season 20, but making it a full blown 10-parter has made watching it exhausting.

I never said south park never had political commentary.

But in the past they at least TRIED to come up with their own original stories to tell their message. It wasn't just an endless stream of "hey look at this reference to this thing that's happening right now isn't it funny hahaha they use smarthphones just like you lol modern references". And the messages were significantly more subtle, usually just a footnote in the grand scheme of the episode, not the entire script.

The original douche vs turd sandwich was a great example of how they used to do it. The general message about voting and how it can feel pointless and peoples mentality around it was there, but it still created a silly yet believable new story to get the message across while also still being entertaining. They actually tried, unlike now where they just have the characters watch the actual real life current candidates on TV and call them a douche and turd sandwich (and no replacing Trump with Garrison doesn't magically make it funny or original if he's just filling the exact same role). Old south park episodes like that were timeless, you could show it to anyone in any where in any year and it would make sense and be funny, these recent seasons will all become outdated within years. Reliance on references is symptom of creative death.
>>
>>87599688

They are trying something different for this season. They wanted a season long plot and the election was something relevant, so they used it as a central plot. Many people have complains about it, not necessary about 'ham-fisted politics' but more because is dragged out and boring. They'll probably stop after this season. I'm guessing they are also used all their ideas on Fractured But Whole and came to write this season a bit dry off ideas.

Totally a different thing. Mexico is a much bigger economy than Cuba, and has more ties to other countries economically than Cuba before it was embargoed (who pre revolution was close to an American colony) Also was a vestige of the Cold War. When the embargo started, not many raised their fists because they were on the US side. Harder to implement something than just keep something the way it is.

Why is the wall so insane?
I mean granted I have doubts to what impact it will actually have on border hopping but it's not like he's saying he's going to build a 100 mile tall statue on the sun he's saying that he wants to build a concrete wall along the border similar to border walls that exist in many other countries including mexico's own southern border and based on fast building construction methods used to build military barracks walls.

That doesn't exist. The pictures you have seen of it online are not the Mexican/Guatemalan border. A lot of it is a river that no one bothers to keep an eye on so Guatemalans can pass if they want. The checkpoints are nothing but simple gates with no hard ass migra like they would make you believe. Many Guatemalans live in Guatemala and go to work in Mexico during the day. Old episodes were often entirely built around the message they were telling (Big Gay Al's Big Gay Boat Ride, An Elephant Makes Love to a Pig, Death) and were full of then modern pop culture references (Volcano, Mecha-Streisand).

The wall's a shit idea because it will do little to no effect on stemming the tide of illegal immigration. Constructing it will take money and manpower. So, if he's dead set on not allowing the surplus of immigrant workers on it, then he's going to drain the fuck out of 'us' to pay for it. Yes he said Mexico would pay for it, but considering a shit ton of money is from anyways, AND it'd take MORE money for the construction/workers/materials/time/effort to MAKE such a grand undertaking then we're just shooting ourselves in the foot.

Not to mention that the wall, again, will do jack shit unless we do the following
1) Garrison that shit like it's a DMZ.
2) Cover the next 50 miles behind the wall, on American soil, with cement, barb wire, and landmines to deal with people popping out of the THOUSANDS of tunnels that already run under the border.
3) Grab battleships, park them on the East and West coast, and shoot any unknown vessel on sight.

Workers get paid by the bucket. A good chunk of cost to table is also made up with "farm subsidies". Pulling a not 100% number off the interweb, uncle Sam pays farmers around 20b a year. That way the farmer doesn't charge more for his product since any loss is offset by tax dollars. It's mostly big farmers that benefit the most and smaller farmers have to go along if they wanna compete.

The fact that Mexicans immigrants sent money back to Mexico is good to stop immigration. That makes sure that their family stays in Mexico with a better life than they wanting to follow suit and get to the US illegally. Case in point, the Mexican Government has programs to help this people to get their money to their families and help them come back once they are done (or if they are Mexican-Americans that want to go back), if this was detrimental to the US, they would have told them to stop.

It's only slightly better than an import based economy. Once the jobs and land are gone. It's not as easy to set it right back up. I'm in no way an expert in the know but down here my father worked for some old coot who sold off a little over 1000 acres and so did the other farmers in the area and now all that land is ranch house communities some 40 years later. Yes now we have houses for other fields of workers to live but with inflation, crops ain't as cheap as they used to be so cost per acre shoots up

Based on this somewhat skimpy account, it sounds as though a gun owner with a legal carry permit may have been instrumental in stopping a shooter from injuring more (and possibly killing some) victims. However, this incident as described doesn't fit the definition of a "mass shooting" (or, as the FBI now terms it, an "active shooter")

In America you can be shoot by bad guys and good guys.

two things to consider is that while there are no women in the group of trolls that sought out gerard, there were women being shown freaking out over their history being exposed as well as men in the town that was used for a test fire.

Russia intervening at all in Syria was a giant middle finger to NATO, let alone siding with Assad, randomly bombing civilians, and vetoing France's UN resolution for a long term ban on aerial bombings.

And no, Russians aren't more effective than NATO at dealing with ISIS, nobody (even themselves) respects their ceasefires and they've made shit for advances militarily.

I genuinely enjoy watching the story unfold, but I agree. This new format came with streaming content basically overtaking television and their exclusivity deal with Hulu. The currently released episodes are much more solid when viewed back to back, but we're still being dripfed episodes on a weekly basis, drawing even more attention to the new, restrictive format.

I'm not European but I live here. I hope they do leave, if Trump does go through with pulling even a little out of NATO, Europe really has to come together in terms of militarization. The UK just keeps vetoing that and honestly, the rest of the EU should stop giving in to them.

UK leaving the EU would be good thing in the long run for the EU imo (as implied by pic of de Gaulle, who was staunchly opposed to them joinging in the 1st place), whether it actually happens is left to be determined.

Do you realize how long our southern border is? It would be a miracle if a wall gets built if Trump even had 8 full years in office.

And we all know Mexico is not paying for that shit. Everyone in this thread seems to be suggesting that the country's largest revenue comes from illegals wiring money from the US into Mexico. That's likely not the case. The majority of wiring money is from normal US citizens buying drugs. Mexico is held afloat by the cartel and US citizens with drug problems. Mexico has no reason to go along with building a wall when all that will do is interfere with drug sales.
