Welcome back Anons! Tonight we're doing Fear Itself, a story where all of America, no, the entire world finds itself gripped in fear over the new ruler of the world!

I probably should've posted this before the election, huh?

So, notice how we went 13 issues uninterrupted without a single event right in New Avengers? Yeah, Marvel went an entire year without a major event.

Apparently sales tanked.
That's why we have Marvel's constant events today.

You'll notice that the major players in this event are Captain America, Thor, and their supporting casts. In case you aren't aware, this entire event was originally going to just be a crossover between the two of them. But Marvel went full panic mode, and blew this up into an event so big, that, of the various other series taking place around this time, all three of them featuring relevant characters to us will tie into this.

Muh dick.

Still salty they "killed" BuckyCap for SYNERGY. Bru's vol. 6 was kind of a huge turd. At least Winter Soldier was incredible.

All told, the biggest sin of Fear Itself was being mostly boring. If it was someone's first event though, I could see how someone might like it a ton.
The X-Men tie in was really cool too fwiw.

We've been ignoring Bendis's other Avengers book, because I'm not THAT much of a hateful storytimer that I'll force you through a completely shitty irrelevant book, but these are the members of that team.
You know about all of them from the these storytimes by now, save the Red Hulk between Wolverine and Iron Man.
Also, that guy on the far right? That's Noh-Varr (Osborn's Captain Marvel) under his new name, "The Protector".

Mosaic #2 was good. I think it'll make for a enjoyable mini and I hope the creators will get more work.

The reveal in Gwenpool was great.

I saw that Carol's getting retconned into being an astronaut after her USAF days, which I expected for the movie. That's neat, I think I prefer that. I'm remaining optimistic for Stohl's run.

Today was actually a really great day for Marvel. Liked a lot of what I read from Was going to make a thread about it after realising how genuinely impressed I was by their output for today, but realised it'd probably just get filled with shitposting about how I'm a shill and realised it wasn't worth it.

But hey, good comics! That's what's important. Gotta look for those silver-linings.

Renew Your Vows, Gwenpool, and Cap Hydra were the standouts for today from them, but Power Man and Iron Fist, Uncanny Avengers and Mosaic were all also good and Clone Conspiracy and Ironheart were both nowhere near as bad as I expected. Actually kind of liked them.

New Super-man, Mother Panic, and Hotline Miami were all also good stuff I picked up today. Haven't read Island yet.

It has to do with canon lining up with IRL history,
NASA had pilots of every type and variety in their employ (mostly military, like Carol) almost from their beginning, but astronauts are historical figures of note, the first female astronaut only happened in the 1990s.

This is what's called an "event". DC and Marvel do them frequently, they release a limited series that's basically a really big crossover, and then a bunch of the ongoing books write tie-ins around it. Civil War II is an example of one going on now.

Events tend to be disliked because they interrupt the books that had nothing to do with it.
>>
>>87598304
Holy crap, this Anon >>87597570 was right.

I guess it is a pretty good event for newbies.

Anyway, it's a line wide event. There are a bunch of tie ins, but you can read the core mini-series and be fine, but you get more detailed looks at things in tie-ins. There are some good tie-ins though. I'd say the Iron Man ones are required absolutely.

Ah, HERE is where the autism rates skyrocket.

Goddamn, I think that was the first thing people noticed when this was first storytimed on /co/. It's so goddamn out of place and pretty much cemented how they had dropped the supposed theme of "Fear Itself" being an allegory about modern-day fears like riots and tax evasion or whatever the fuck.

>>
>>87598425
If you want summaries, hit up the Wikipedia page. For some reason, somebody decided to summarize damn near every aspect of this event, from the main event mini to the ongoing tie-ins.

For some far stranger reason, they even summarized the reviews posted for each issue of every book.

Most of the events themselves are either self-explainatory, of have pages like this telling you what you need. VERY rarely are the actual tie-ins relevant to the event itself, unless they're written by the same writer. You could get through this entire event without ever reading any of the tie-ins. As a general rule for Marvel though, the tie-ins seem to be better than the actual events.

Just in case you haven't read Hickman's FF, and since it's one of the few books I HAVE read, I'll explain. Basically, Ben was turned into a human for a while, a LOT of shit went down, and Johnny Storm sacrificed himself to save the world, since a powerless Ben Grimm wouldn't be able to. With him gone, they changed the Fantastic Four into the Future Foundation, and even ended up recruiting Spider-Man as his replacements, based on Johnny's video will's request.

Somehow that reminds me, Age of Ultron (which doesn't have enough Luke or Danny, and THEIR series don't bother referencing it, so I'm leaning towards not doing that story) had the shield get smashed, but didn't show how.

Oh, and the Alien Horror from New Avengers was said to have destroyed it too.

The Avengers have faced far far worse odds and far more dangerous foes than literally who. No way that Steve Rogers would just give up and let everyone die because it's just too hard. He'd fight to his last breath.

I'm always intrigued flipping through other tie in issues too.

JiM was the best.

>And then Fraction came up with Asgardia, which has stuck around ever sense.
Technically what Fraction came up with was new techno Asgardia on Earth's soil that was a constitutional monarchy where refugees from all of the 9 worlds would be citizens there and express representatives in the Parliament. Aaaron ditched everything about that, informally sent back non-Asgardians in their worlds so he could write the Parliament as the UN Security council. Basically he kept the name Asgardia to mean "Asgard but not in Asgard-space"

He's at his best when he does comedies. Superior Foes, Fix, and the best parts of Standoff confirm that.
In retrospect, as I've mentioned, Captain Falcon seems to be a companion book to the Captain Hydra story. And considering the OTHER companion book to that plot is Zub's Thunderbolts? I'd say his book isn't that bad, in comparison.

Bendis forgetting something he wrote? Say it isn't so! Do you remember when that was, out of curiousity?
>>
>>87605671
It's from the preview of next week's issue of Jessica Jones.

>that last panel

And NOW you know "official" name for Danny's White Costume, "Immortal Weapon of Agamotto". I've checked through every book I can, even going online to find it, and I can't find ANY explanation for what this means. As far as I'm aware, Spencer just dropped this bombshell, and NOBODY has done anything with it since, even though people asked about it for years. At one point, Brevoort implied it was going to be answered in AvX.

daddy's journal
also looks like they gave red lad here a human face then just colored it red
>>
>>87605894

well considering that the only thing that was ever referenced from this book going forward was Sun Wukong appearing in Spencer's Avengers World as a cameo, I doubt it'll ever be followed up on.
>>
And that's it for today, Anons. See you tomorrow, as we go back to New Avengers!

Web lad that's some spicy propaganda, nasa.
>>
>>87597565
That's a pretty accurate description. Although they aren't so much zombies as yet another cadre of Dark Asgardian Gods (because no one remembers Dan Jurgens writing Thor for like 8 years)

>I saw that Carol's getting retconned into being an astronaut after her USAF days, which I expected for the movie. That's neat, I think I prefer that.

Well, she was always stationed at Cape Canaveral so this is just kind of updating it into the era when Astronauts weren't just all white manlets like they were when she was created.
>>
>>87598040

Yep, it's the nordic rune alphabet.

I could've, but I also wanted to express my surprise that the random runes in Fear Itself, which I assumed for years was nonsense, may actually have a definition.

If Juggernaut is the mortal shell for Cyttorak, how could something else take him over and yet keep his power?
>>
>>87611326
>If Juggernaut is the mortal shell for Cyttorak,
He's just the avatar.

Colossus had the PENIS force while being Juggulus.
>>
>>87611326
For starters, the Juggernaught is a human empowered by Cyttorak, not a physical shell. He's like the Avatar of a god, as opposed to being an animated golem.

As for why Cyttorak is giving Juggernaught powers, even though he's working for the Serpent? As pointed out in the X-Men tie-in, Cyttorak doesn't care, since hes still causing destruction and murder in his name.

Cyttorak later takes the powers back when it's pointed out that, while hes causing destruction, its in Cul's name, not his.

Gibberish. Hell, the Ingwaz at the end is incorrectly written. It should just look like a diamond or a diamond with chevrons at the top and bottom

>>
>>87598889
Yeah, he's killed Jormungand, who is not this asshole, like two three times already.

But like I keep saying- People have a tendency to just outright ignore most Thor continuity when they start writing it, so there ends up being a lot of repeated themes.
>>
>>87599182
>yfw Cannonball will never get his magic dwarf armor ever again.
>>
>>87599217
It's true. Most of Thor and Hulk's interactions were between Thor and an enraged Hulk out for a brawl.

With Ben I'm sure Thor's been to at least one poker night.
>>
>>87599220
So they could have an Iron Man villain to have him fight?

Or maybe just because Rock Powers, to fit thematically with the Thing and Absorbing Man?

>>
>>87599665
>>87599673
I ended up being so disappointed that in the aftermath of Oeming Thor Disassembled, the fact that Thor destroyed the apparatus of the cycles and Those Who Sit Above In Shadows.

And also got himself boosted to Odin+ power levels by tearing out both eyes and killing himself. That went nowhere too.
>>
>>87599981
Stark couldn't bother getting him something that would give him a power he'd actually need, huh?
>>
>>87600026
THEY KEEP MONOPOLIZING THOR'S TIME!
>>
>>87600039
Man, that isn't even needed. It can just be a different Kang.
Because of how time travel works in Marvel, there are so many different separate Kangs they formed a Council of Kangs at one point.

Also, the last appearance of Kang is already Immortus the Time Pope.
>>
>>87616481
There's only four Kangs now, First of all - there was a whole thing where Kang murdered those other cross-time Kangs, Kang sort of started over after that, for a bit he and Immortus were after each other but they took the breaking of time hard and sort of shattered into four versions of himself.
We've seen two of them so far.
>>
>>87600174
And the Fear Itself powerups go right into the trash.

Shame. The Carolax was a solid idea.
Same with Danny's brick on a chain.

>>87600199

Ha. As if modern America could handle rationing in any way.

- NB4 /pol/ conversation!
>>

Immortus is basically a different flavor of evil than Kang. Its got for telling different kinds of stories.

You have to give it to Spencer that when he's set on an idea, he'll move it forward in almost any book he's on. He took more than 3 years and several books to get to what Kobik was, but he unfolded it in the end

She came back post Banner's death, and apparently she has some plans which may or may not be followed up on in the future.
