So there's the normal Archie comics, the shit you expect. Most of those have been canceled in favor of a reboot.
What you're recalling is Life With Archie/The Married Life, which is where they told a story with continuity, and split it off into two parallel stories where he married wither Betty or Veronica, then died.
This is Archie's current form, for better or worse.

Also there's Afterlife with Archie and Chilling Tales of Sabrina from their horror line.
