Cliffhanger is just the house style for Dreamworks now, it seems.
Multiple shows now have had big season ending cliffhangers followed up immediately with smaller mid-season cliffhangers.
Even Dawn of the Croods that ended it's first season with a jokey non-cliffhanger then went around and ended its second with an actual serious lives on the line cliffhanger.
