Ha ha! Time for Kooky Quartet.
Had Wanda and Pietro been established to be Magneto's kids at this point? If so, it's a bit awkward that they're not acknowledging that.
>>87577651
Nope.
>>87577600
Oh right, new comics today, I'd almost forgotten.
>>87577682
Good to know. It would really be peak Marvel to act like that was never a thing at all.
>>87577694
Comics distract me from my existential despair!
>>87577605
>>87577618
She definetly doesn't seem to LITERALLY be the size of the Wasp in these pictures.
Glad that Waid doesn't seem to be going down the Hydra Cap route, at least.
>>87577709
Artistic license?
>>87577660
>Steve thinks that Wansa is a bombshell
Why did it take so long for them to make out?
This is a cute touch. I do love it when stories set in a past era have stuff like this to make it seem like they actually came from then.
That was okay. I'll probably pick this one up in trades if Waid doesn't shit the bed.
Something something official release, something something Marlel, something something Trump. Until next time, true believers.
>>87577651
I'm sorry, I don't understand. What is the point of this comic? Is this going to be a whole series to retroactively ruin the old Avengers so we'll hate the new ones less?
Thanks for posting, OP, fun story.
>>87577857
It's an ongoing, yes.
I liked it well enough.
>>87577618
Christ, I thought I would be safe in the throwback issue, I didn't pay attention to who was writing it.
>>87577944
It will be collected as "Avengers: Four" and will contain 5 issues, so it is a stealth mini.
>>87577640
Cap had met all of them before this, please stop using this shit "Who are you supposed to be" gag.
>>87577671
>That fedora with the word press on it
>>87577660
What the fuck is this shit? The thing that was so great about the Kooky Quartet was Cap BELIEVING in three ex-criminals and giving them a chance to prove themselves as heroes, now they're acting like that was imposed on him against his will and he wanted to back down? Fuck this comic.
>>87577700
>Smug female report spewing bullshit and Cap being a pushover about it
Civil War flashbacks.
>>87577857
>what is the point of good comic
>>87578151
>This trainwreck
>A good comic
I know Marvel has been shit in general recently, but standards can't possibly have fallen this low, can they?
>>87577762
>>87577769
And that was Quicksilver's first meeting with his sister-in-law.
>>87577777
Checked
>>87577611
Shit, I'm digging the lettering in this.
>>87577746
>I have Sandman
Really? REALLY? He clearly knows who he is, so he has no excuse for thinking he could possibly stand a chance.
>>87578322
This entire issue paints Cap as a complete idiot, especially as a leader.
>>87578315
I think it's meant to look like Artie Simek's lettering.
>>87578162
Nothing is wrong about this comic. Hopefully they tone down mutant whining, though.
>>87577665
I like Clint using his carny experience.
>>87577600
>Marvel
>retrad of a popular old storyline
>Waid
It's like a perfect storm of shit.
>>87577734
Wasn't Medusa fixed way before the first Avengers team let alone this one
>>87577600
>That face
>>87579892
I like it better than you but I think something's off about the way Waid writes old-school comic dialogue.
For whatever reason Kurt Busiek seems better at writing old-fashioned comic-booky dialogue (Waid's better at writing naturalistic modern dialogue, I think).
>>87580461
I just find Waid incredibly boring. His FF run nearly killed me it was so lame.
>>87577671
>this can't be happening
>I'm the one in charge
While I'm here I might as well storytime the first untold tale of Cap's Kooky Quartet, which was written by Roger Stern and drawn by Ron Frenz for Thunderbolts # 9 in 1997.
It was a fill-in story that was framed by Black Widow telling the Thunderbolts about other villains who turned heroes. Kind of a flimsy device since Black Widow wasn't even there at the time, but Hawkeye and Scarlet Witch and Cap were all "dead" at the time thanks to Onslaught.
>>87581727
>>87581739
>>87581757
One thing about the original Avengers stories is the public didn't seem to worry about all the new Avengers being ex-villains. Stan Lee wrote a scene where the press said Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch were OK because the X-Men vouched for them. It was a different time.
>>87581782
>>87581799
>>87581812
>>87581822
>>87581835
Also, trivia: the name "Cap's Kooky Quartet" sounds like something Stan Lee would have said but it isn't in the original stories. I think the nickname first appeared in some flashback stories in the '70s.
>>87581854
>>87581870
>>87581897
Frenz is usually a Kirby imitator but here it seems he's more chanelling Don Heck.
>>87581917
>>87581934
Wanda, deus ex machina-ing since 1965.
>>87581945
>>87581953
Might as well post the last pages of the issue. This is the end of the framing story by series creators Kurt Busiek and Mark Bagley.
(This was back when Marvel still did "inventory" stories that could be run at any time during a series' run, so they had this story ready to go in a month when Busiek and Bagley needed a breather.)
>>87581982
>>87581998
And the last page of the issue is a Hostess Fruit Pies parody that some fans pitched to Busiek and he got Marvel to get someone to draw it.
>>87577665
At least he can get Clint right. This could be fun to read, lads.
>>87582012
I like that Moonstone uses Freudian psychology to get Zemo to try the delicious fruit pies. Very Moonstone.
>>87577728
Definitely liking the dynamics so far.
>>87577640
This isn't like Cap and it's not even worth it for the unfunny gag. Just a garbage page.
>>87582012
11/10
>>87583928
>This isn't like Cap
That's a pretty spot-on review of this issue.
>>87577665
I miss carny Clint.
>>87579000
>half of the team is mutants
>tone down mutants
also, this should be uncanny avengers 1.1, t b h
>>87577757
Early Hawkeye was always getting into entanglements with redheads.
>>87578001
>>87577618
OK, to be fair, I don't see that as political. It's true that in the Silver Age the guys wouldn't hit girls so the girls had to take them out.
>>87578052
Doesn't mean hes an idiot, and cant see a PR nightmare coming.
