Good, it was absolute shit compared to the original. Around that time Disney had a habit of releasing straight-to-video sequels that were really, really bad. They just didn't care about the IP at all and only wanted the money from gullible kids.

So what about Disney sequels that buck the trend and are actually good?

I like the 3 Aladdin films, I'd say 2 is definitely the weakest but it's still solid.

Can''t really think of anything else. I did when younger feel surprised that Jungle Book II was stronger than I expected, but I was too young to trust that opinion without going back and I'm kinda scared to.

The topic of Disney sequels generally only covers straight-to-video stuff, not theatrical releases. Resucers Down Under has the budget quality you'd expect from the Official Disney Canon, the straight-to-video stuff, not so much.

Basically it's a league of its own.

That said the first movie is god tier and the second one, despite the criticism, is pretty fun
>>
>>87585932
These are the best Disney sequels. They also work as a perfect prologue and epilogue for the TV Series, because they were pretty much done by the same people.

King of Thieves is better than Return of Jafar by a good margin, though. More interesting plot, better songs, and got Robin Williams back after he wasn't in the second (not that Castellaneta was bad in 2).

That was heinous trash. It was another one of those "lead-in to a shitty TV series" sort of "movies". Like Tarzan & Jane.

Krunk's New Groove was pretty bad, too. Atlantis II is the worst of them because it was the lead-in to a TV series that never happened.

The original Pocahontas is one of the worst films in the Disney Animated Classics canon (before you get to early 2000s CG shit).

But Pocahontas II manages to be remarkably worse.
>>
>>87606808

historic inaccuracy aside, what went wrong?!
>>
The Jungle Book II was pure shit with only 2 redeeming factors

>John Goodman as Baloo
>Tony Jaye as Shere Khan

Admittedly, Jaye was just leftover casting from Tailspin, but still.

Anyway, Jungle Book II was bad, but it's not the worst Disney-related Jungle Book thing. The Jungle Cubs takes that honor.
>>
>>87576019
I was under the impression that alot disney movies had awful sequels.
Of the top of my head, little mermaid, sleeping beauty, and lion king all did right?
>>
>>87606808
>>87607882

Pocahontas II was bad, but it earns points for having the balls to completely undo the romance between Pocahontas and John Smith from the first film.

She ditches Smith and hooks up with John Rolfe (her historically accurate husband) in the sequel.

That said, the Disney Pocahontas films making ANY attempts to be historically accurate is a misstep. They should've stuck with their "historical fantasy" angle and run with it.
>>

>>
>>87576019
this why disney don't do sequels
>>
>>87608127
>They should've stuck with their "historical fantasy" angle and run with it.

Yeah. The reason Disney's Hercule TV series was so much fun is that it didn't try to right the mythological inaccuracies of the film. Instead they just went all in on playing fast and loose with Greek myths and did some stuff that was EXTRA hilarious if you knew the myths. Like Beleraphon and Pegasus. And I fuckin loved how they explained the Roman Pantheon being knock-offs of the Greek Pantheon.
>>
>>87576019

>>87608213

>>
>>87608294

Bland and forgettable. Bad movies like Chicken Little are at least memorable in how bad they art. Brother Bear will join the ranks of Bolt in being completely and utterly forgotten.

The Strange Brew reunion via the casting was the only remarkable thing about the film.
>>
>>87608347
>Chicken Little
>better than Brother Bear

>>
>>87608347
Also the transformation scene. Beautiful animation and music.

Lot of the music in the movie was solid. The only real big issue was the idiotic decision to have Phil Collins sing over what was supposed to be the emotional climax of the movie.
>>
>>87608127
I was a little impressed when they tried to be historically accurate in the second movie and although her royal treatment in England could've made for an entertaining fish-out-of-water movie it just fell flat. Then again, sailing into the sunset is a nicer finale than the true one.

>>87585265
Extreme Goofy movie isn't as good (I think A Goofy Movie is probably one of their more underrated movies, definitely among my favorites), but it's still solid.
>>
>>87608848

If you can look past all the 90s-isms like "Extreme" in the title and sponsorship from the X-Games, it has all the emotional impact of the first Goofy Movie.

Shit, the intro alone is heartbreaking. Goofy sitting in his son's empty bedroom, staring at the teddy bear he left behind and trying not to cry in his loneliness. Jesus.

Gorgeous looking, best soundtrack since then, includes deleted scenes from the book, totally entertaining unlike the original and also has a definite story arc (deals with some issues you wouldn't even tell the original had, and pretty well), some continuity nods if you like the original, Patrick fucking Stewart as the Great Prince.

One down side I can think of is, it tries hard to be cute at times, but it doesn't really hurt the movie.

Also, apparently, it's a good 2D Disney movie you haven't watched. Enjoy, guess you won't be seeing many of those anymore, unfortunately.
