Doctor Strange - The Extended Cut

Scene 1 – 1984 – New York, Stephen Strange as a 10 yr old boy preparing his fathers birthday celebration with younger sister & mum, he plays with his sister, they're very close. Father comes home from work after long day at medical practice. Ignores family, Stephen goes into fathers study to give him his present but he despises gifts, only thing his dad respects is hard work, thinks birthdays are a waste of time. Stephen is very hurt by his fathers words, vows to please his by acting more like him.

Scene 2 – 1999 – New York, Strange is now a 25 yr old, up & coming, practising physician and is distant from his family because of his attitude after his father died before seeing him succeed in his career. His sister visits his practise one day, they still stay in contact occasionally. She reveals she has cancer and didn't wish to tell her mum after their dad died. Stephen goes to every doctor he can find but none will treat her as she is too ill. Stephen decides to perform the operation to remove the tumour himself but fails, on his sisters death bed he vows never to fail again and this motivates him to become the worlds greatest neurosurgeon.

Scene 3 – 2015 – London, Kaecilius steals pages from the ancient ones secret tome, the ancient one confronts him and his followers in London but she fails to apprehend him and he escapes.

Scene 4 – 2015 – New York, Strange is performing an operation reiterates to colleagues he never fails. Snubs other patients, offers an invite to Christina to go to the charity gala with him that night. Strange dresses for the ball in his luxury apartment, stares at a picture of him and his sister, he contemplates and then takes his Lamborghini for a spin.

Scene 5 – Charity Ball- Strange is arrogant, snobby and proud of himself. He accepts and award for best Surgeon, the ancient one is disguised in the audience in a yellow dress, she attempts to congratulate strange but he snubs her in commotion. Christina receives an urgent call from the hospital that they need her on for several critical patients, she rushes to leave the ball and begs Stephen to join her, but Stephens reluctance to treat hopeless patients and his fear of failure leads him to remain at the party while she leaves.

Scene 6 – Later that night, Strange is driving home in his Lamborghini slightly drunk, he receives more urgent calls from the Hospital citing more critical patients in need, he begins to lose his patience with the caller and ends up losing control of the car and crashing.

Rest of the film - additional details

Strange exhausting his resources finding a cure montage. Has an argument with Christina where she mentions his sister, he tells her to get out, ending their relationship.

Strange travelling to Kamar Taj and meeting the ancient one whom he slightly recognises, she says she has been watching him for a while.

He is sent on a psychedelic journey by the Ancient One, he is eventually accepted to be trained.

He meets Mordo & Wong, a training sequence ensues using the sling rings and Mt. Everest.

Strange continues to study at Kamar Taj montage, time passes and the Ancient One congratulates him on nearly a year of training. She recognises his skills are growing exponentially and provides him with a doorway to another dimension where he can practice his magic undisturbed.

A psychedelic montage ensues of Strange, Mordo & Wong training together in the Astral Realm, Strange performs some impressive feats but loses control and seeks to learn more.

We rejoin Kaecilius in a a dark sorcerers temple in the mountains of Mongolia which he and his Zealots have spent months searching for as it is a place of power. They have set up base here and are deciphering the tomes pages to perform a ritual to bring back Dormammu. He searches the temple where he sees a magical mirror showing him with his dead with & child. He is interrupted by his surrogates as he begins to perform the dimension spilling ritual. They then set off to London.

Strange still wanting to control his great power in fear he will make a mistake turns to the Ancient Ones forbidden tomes, in secret he takes the Eye of Agamotto and meddles with time to restore the tomes stolen pages. Mordo & Wong burst in and scorn him for being so reckless, Strange demands to know what they're not telling him. They recount the story of Kaecilius and how he lost his family, was taken in by the ancient one but couldn't move past his loss and became obsessed with resurrecting his family, he then rejected the ancient one, her teachings and left with his zealots. Just then, Kaecilius attacks the London sanctum.

Ancient One death scene is extended with her talking about the death of his sister directly for the very first time, (he had told Christina to leave when she brought it up before when he was at rock bottom.) She says he needs to let go of fear and be selfless, she passes her mystic powers onto him and says if he learns he will be able to speak to his sisters spirit again.

Strange fights Kaecilius again, he succeeds in beating him and Dormammu.

The film ends in the Sanctum Sanctorum with strange having a heart to heart with his sister from beyond the grave, she tells him she loves him and he finally lets go and finds closure. Wong and Strange answer the door and Thor is there in need of help, roll credits.

Hope you at least like some of the added plot points, I think bringing his sister in from the animated movie adds depth to the character as to why he's a jerk and I really liked it. His father was also a crucial element in who he becomes in the comics.

Film would have been perfect if they had more scenes with wong, mordo and some more psychedelic stuff though. IMO it's biggest flaw is it's too quick a movie.

Basically some headcanon mixed with Kaecilius stuff which I'm pretty sure got cut. There are definitely things missing from the movie given how quick it was. The stuff about strange's family are just my suggestions inspired from the comics though.
