It's insufferably condescending, and he makes the assumption that he's coming down like Prometheus to impart astonishing new knowledge to us slack-jawed troglodytes.

I voted for Hillary a few days ago. He's super science-focused in his comics, so why wouldn't he support the anti-climate change candidate? Just because Trump is a denier, does not make Hillary an environment supporter. She is backed by Lockheed fucking Martin, you think they wouldn't have a problem with rising fuel costs? The climate change appeal from Hillary is as credible as the "fix the infrastructure" argument, it's a pandering, empty promise that will get token attention to satisfy college students so they keep voting for her.
>Campaign is financed by defense contractors and Foundation receives donations from oil rich countries
>Giving a shit about the environment when it's not an election season

I'd much rather risk a war led by Hillary, interventionist hawk though she is, than war led by Trump who thinks the generals don't know as much as he does and who thinks Saudi Arabia should have nukes and that we should use nukes more freely.

Trump might also be way worse in that he might be heavily beholden to Russian interests, if that's the case he could end up doing any number of things to permanently cripple us in relation to Russia. I don't think this too likely, but refusing to release his taxes should have been disqualifying.

I'm saying that the end result is zero, with one side pandering to millennials and smug progressives to get their votes, while simultaneously being funded by the entities driving demand for all that fossil fuel. To me, that's almost worse. Almost. But the bigger issue is that no one can compromise on in-between steps to move off fossil fuels, or at least coal.
>Fracking for natural gas isn't perfect, so ban it despite being better than coal
>Nuclear isn't perfect, so debilitate it despite it being vastly superior to coal and with almost zero risk in modern designs
>Wind and solar have significant issues and are years behind wide adoption, but do it anyway because it makes me feel good

Well citizen boycotts are a consumer right. If you say some stuff that the majority doesn't like, you do have to deal with the consequences, at least until you can convince the majority to agree with you.

If Kellogg's called me a fuckface you know I'd support General Mills from then on. And when it comes to political opinions then I'm naturally inclined to support people or brands that support causes important to me and drop the brands on the opposite.

Besides, according to Citizens United (which should be overturned) my money is free speech. And even then, you can't just mandate how people privately spend their money.

You should also note that's EXACTLY the same time the ultrachristfags went from leading with the "Moral Majority" argument, to the "Religious Freedom" one.

The single greatest thing about the US experiment in Democracy was recognizing that people in power will reliably shit on each other, and any democracy needs a check to keep the majority from reaming the minority in the ass on fundamental rights.

I just hate discussing social anxiety on the internet because it just devolves into those with social anxiety treating themselves and their condition with special snowflake status and hyping it up to be this ephemeral, unknowable thing that defies or explanation or negative connotations and anyone who doesn't have it just has to shut up and listen to those who do have it talk about how it's the worst thing ever and how we could never understand but we should still cater to it.

When you join a forum or get a job you agree upfront to certain terms and conditions and you being an asshole violates them, and it is the site/managers right to terminate you for breaking your agreement.

God, I've caught myself doing this.

I used to test printers for HP for ten bucks an hour.
It was mostly sitting in a room, with an array of printers, watching them print for hours at a time. Sometimes one of them would jam, and you'd have to fill out a very elaborate piece of paperwork logging the jam in detail. Shit was elaborate and convoluted as fuck, and that was one of the easier jobs!
Other people had to mark ink testing, or power switches, everything right on down to the drawer that held the paper had to be extensively tested and painstakingly recorded.

Literally every single piece of hardware and software put into those things had hundreds of man-hours designing and testing them. EACH. Literally everything, down to the screws that hold the motherboard in place. And that goes for literally every single item you now own. It's genuinely awe-inspiring to realize.

This was his stance in 2008.

https://blog.xkcd.com/2008/01/28/obama

>Obama has shown a real commitment to open government

>Obama stands against bad governing not only in his support of specific practices like open data standards and basic network neutrality, but in his work against corruption from day one

>Clinton has done nothing of the sort, and when questioned seems baffled that anyone would have a problem with what is, by any reasonable standard, bribery. I find her basic lack of integrity troubling, and I think as president she would continue fighting to maintain the status quo

>The Democratic party has a long, painful history of nominating unlikable, uncharismatic ‘default’ establishment candidates who are eventually swatted aside by the voters. Nominating Clinton would be continuing that tradition at the very time when we have a chance to do so much better. Let’s not let that chance slip by.

>I want someone who can lead the country. When people grow cynical and detached from government, or blinded by partisanship, evil runs amok. Obama represents an honest shot at making our government something we can be proud of.

My issue is with people who are genuinely excited about Hillary and treat her as if she were a saint, pure and free of sin, instead of the (depending on your perspective) lesser of two evils that the American people should never have been subjected to to begin with. The ones that will excuse everything she says and does to the same level as some Trump voters will excuse everything he says and does.

No. Some people just don't like beer. Although I would certainly suggest getting something other than a draft.

If you don't like the grainy and or hoppy beers, try a sour or a gose.

The fun thing about beer is that there are so many varieties and flavors. Always have been throughout history, but big breweries in America convinced most that there were only 2-3 options (domestic).

So a joke:

What's the similarity between an American lite lager and sex in a canoe?

>Still not a fan of the "I'm With Her" slogan in general though. Shouldn't she be with us?

>>
>>87543375

My reasoning is essentially rooted in the fact that everything a President Trump does will be scrutinized by everyone across party lines, because even the Republican establishment hates him and is looking for the chance to retake the reins in time for 2020. A President Clinton will be scrutinized about to the same level that Obama is by the GOP, but her own side will be playing damage control for her for her entire term. I can no longer tolerate that kind of dynamic.
>>
>>87543150
I used to work for a medical supply company, and testing is no joke. They had a machine whose only use was to peel apart velcro for disposable blood pressure cuffs and log the force vs time graph. They had another machine whose purpose was to roll, inflate, deflate, unroll cuffs, and repeat 1,000 times. Both of these were just to see the failure mode of the velcro, and this was my job for weeks. I wasn't even involved with the fabric or the plastic mouthpiece.

To be honest, I think Jim Webb would have made a great president. He was a Vietnam War veteran and his proposed policies were just right.
Shame the Dems didn't like him.

Yeah, and the country is divided almost dead center between Donald J. Trump and Hillary Rodham Clinton. Obviously it wasn't just a group of Republican loonies who propelled Trump to the tip, his direct message to the people has had a real effect (as has Hillary's, albeit in more of an "at least I'm not that weirdo" approach). Why would people respond to Trump's rhetoric so strongly, and only now (he "ran" like twice in the past)? People need to answer those questions before discussing America's problems and solutions. There is something rotten in the state of Denmark and Trump's success is only a symptom of it.
Trump got the nomination for the same reason why Bernie was so popular.

They appeal to the idea that there is something wrong and we need to change it.

I have always hated it. Other anons have mentioned the 'smug' aspect. That alone wouldn't be too bad, but there's so many other things that irritate me.

This is a guy that continues to adopt the posture of knowledge-ability, even when taking (joking?) about subjects well beyond the field of his expertise. Have you seen him when he tries to talk philosophy or literature? It's horrifying.

There's also this nasty vindictive streak that runs through everything he does. Violence against people you dislike or disagree with isn't a punchline -- it's a juvenile, and cheap.

His reliance on academic in-jokes and call outs is every bit as a bad Seth McFarlane's reliance on pop-culture reference. In both instances it's simply lazy writing.

Worst of all,I can see nothing in this comic that benefits from the fact that it is, ostensibly, a comic. He never uses any of the tools of the medium beyond the most basic timing. As far as I can tell, the only reason he uses panels and stick figures, is so that he can frame his insipid little blog in dialogues -- not because he's any better at writing dialogue (he's not) but because it gives complete rhetorical control without having to be a decent essayist.

He fails as a humourist.

He fails as an artist.

He fails at the comic medium.

He fails at just about any subject he did not major in.

XKCD is not a comic; it's the smug blog of a bitter thoughtless jackass, who consistently mistakes his subjective experiences for truth.

Not really. In deeply entrenched states voting third party is literally the only vote that matters. I know for a fact my state is going red. Throwing another vote on top of that is meaningless. Racism is about skincolor as a way to identify the outgroup as a tribal remnant of human psychology

Racism is power+prejudice was spread to counter claims of racism against whites. After all, whites have all the power so how could anyone be racist against them?
>>

>And racism is about power

>Racism
>The belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.
>Prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior.

Don't see anything here about power, funny that. I guess when you can redefine words to your liking it's easy to feel correct.

People all too often don't see the acne for the zits. Uh, what exactly are you trying to say here? You do realize that anyone can endorse any candidate they wish in this country, right? How does this equate to the KKK having a great deal of social/political influence? You do realize that that endorsement was harshly criticized and everyone raked Trump over the coals for it, right? It sounds to me like most people in this country (rightfully) look down at the KKK for being a bunch of backwards, unimportant bigots living in the past.

I feel bad for Jackson, people act like the trail of tears was his personal crusade to rid the world of native americans. The dude LIKED native americans, and pushed the act because there was a ton of violence and death on both sides, and it was because of congress cutting funding for the program that it was so bad and lead to so much death and suffering.

Don't get me wrong, Jackson was a bad president, he was emotionally unstable, made terrible decisions, ruined the economy, and was stubborn enough to go through with the indian removal act despite the deaths, and the indian removal act itself was still fucked up, but it was still the alternative to waging war on the natives and wiping them out entirely.

Jackson was a bad president, but he wasn't Hitler. He was closer to Stalin if anything.

In any case the silver lining to Jackson's presidency was that it lead to Van Buren and Polk coming into office, both of whom were great presidents, and deserve to be on money.

Look, what I should have said is that it's not about you. That's the problem here -- you're taking these issues and you're making them about punishing white people but that's not what it's about.

Should white people of today be blamed for the actions of those who came before them? No, of course not.

Is racism still as big an issue today as it was a few decades ago? No, of course not.

But you have to understand that, really, that shit wasn't even that long ago. There are still black people who were alive back when they didn't even have civil rights. There are still minorities being raised by generations who were accustomed to casual, severe racism and instill the values that helped them survive then on their children now.

You need to understand that people need time to heal. You can't just force them to move on when it conveniences you, the wounds are still relatively fresh, here. It's getting easier and easier every day to be a minority in a predominantly white society, yes, but there's still a tension there and you need to accept the fact that minorities aren't just going to be able to let bygones be bygones yet.

Stop trying to force them into speeding through that recovery period.

Just know that this isn't about you. They're not trying to punish you or shit all over you. They're just going through their shit right now and the unfortunate side of that is that, yes, they are still fairly bitter.

We're all moving closer towards moving past things. There was a black president, women especially have a lot more rights, people of all races can just more or less live in peace now. But you just need to give us some more time to lay things to rest.

I really don't think that's too unreasonable.

Normies do know/care. For them, it's an assumption all Politicians are like that anyway.

They just don't like Donald Trump more. It dosen't help he hasn't paid taxes for a while, had 6 gorillion girls come out and say he harassed them, and due to being a celebrity, AND rich, he's AUTOMATICALLY assumed to have done illegal shit. Also, even before this election, people have been making fun of him, for a while. It's like having Justin Beiber run for election. Even if he made 100% sense, he'd still have all that baggage.

The emails are well documented even by mainstream sources. Hilary only handed over about 10,000 emails and deleted the other 33,000 saying they were personal in nature. That apparently didn't raise any red flags with anyone. What's even sadder is she claimed over and over again there was no classified information on those 10,000 that SHE specifically handed to the FBI at her discretion and they found that over 2000 of them in fact did. Several even being Top Secret the highest level of classification. Hilary is ridiculously incompetent and corrupt. We've known this for 20 years. Hatred of her is nothing new. It's just now that she's against Trump people have to will themselves to forget all that.

That's a hefty accusation. Even the FBI didn't think that she actually leaked classified information, and they're no friends of Clinton. They didn't like how she handled them, but that's different than actually handing them over to someone else.
>>
>>87546253

I've got to kind of side with Bill Burr on the women coming forward. Donald has been in the public eye for 30 years and all that time he's been known as a megamogul. In all that time it takes until the middle of October when hes running for election for any of them to mention it? There was plenty of reason to do so before now but for some reason they just didn't think until he became a real possibility for the most powerful position in the free world? All at once? I've got to call bullshit.
>>
>>87546216
>You can't just force them to move on when it conveniences you, the wounds are still relatively fresh, here.
It's the other way around. Black people are trying to force whites to pay for reparations, they're trying to guilt whites for things they didn't do, it's us trying to have our way when it conveniences us. Take for instance the idea of "unconcious bias," a completely bullshit idea used to try and guilt people who did nothing wrong on the basis that they may or may not be thinking something wrong. It's disgusting.

>It's getting easier and easier every day to be a minority in a predominantly white society, yes, but there's still a tension there and you need to accept the fact that minorities aren't just going to be able to let bygones be bygones yet.
How do you eat your own shit? There is no widespread institutional racism in the US.

Okay, first I want to know what your age range for Millenials are. It could be from being born from the 1980s to the 2000s. If we're starting from the 1980s, I can give you a big list, if you mean from the 1990ish...well, most are in their early 20s, but I can get some stuff. If you mean from the 2000s, I'm going to slap you.

I have no idea why he did this. Does he somehow think his readers are going to give a shit what he thinks? What does he have to gain from this other than liberal brownie points, when 99% of his readerbase are liberals anyways?

All he's doing is alienating people like me who are begrudgingly voting for Hillary because the GOP is too retarded to set up a decent candidate and I don't want a president that's stupider than Dubya. Yes, we get it, we have to vote for Hillary. Good job DNC, you set it up so she's literally the only viable choice. Great election. That doesn't mean I'm "With Her". I'm against everything she stands for. She's our muppet in the White House until we get another chance at the next election. And she sure as hell isn't gonna get elected twice.

They don't have it the same as whites, just speaking factually. There's no institutionalised racism, but there are still a lot of lingering effects of when such factors were a thing and black people are gradually getting over those lingering effects.

I suppose this is all going to fall on deaf ears though since you're clearly only here to bitch about how hard it is being white and how you're the eternal victims of those mean ol' minorities as opposed to having an actual dialogue.

>>
>>87546585
>They don't have it the same as whites, just speaking factually.
In what way does the system not work the same for them? If you're just referring to disparities then you might as well stop, because disparities will always exist as
long as groups exist, it's a moot point.

>I suppose this is all going to fall on deaf ears though since you're clearly only here to bitch about how hard it is being white and how you're the eternal victims of those mean ol' minorities as opposed to having an actual dialogue.

I should re-phrase that. I meant she purposely mishandled classified documents and may possibly have led to leaks of said information. Regardless of the FBI's decision on not prosecuting, I know for a fact she was guilty as she did show criminal intent: https://wikileaks.org/clinton-emails/emailid/30324 and extreme negligence: http://nypost.com/2016/11/06/clinton-directed-her-maid-to-print-out-classified-materials/ .

The problem with blacks as I see it is the eternal victim complex and the broken family. If you're always a victim why bother trying? Where's your dad to provide half or more of your family's income and be one half of a good role model?

Not saying racism isn't part of it at some level because that's stupid. Everyone is a little bit racist.

I blame the welfare state for the dissolution of the black family, but it's not really a race-based issue to me as I see it hurts all families.

>Not saying racism isn't part of it at some level because that's stupid. Everyone is a little bit racist.
As long as you can point to behavior or something that manifests itself in reality as a result of prejudice then you can say that something is racist. To say that there must be racism because you can't imagine people not being is just wrong.

Protip, white people bitching about racist white people live in white neighborhoods.

One of the things I'll never forget is reading a confession from an old politician in Britain. They spent their entire life fighting the racist working class whites in London to allow more immigrants, all the while living in a nice white suburb. Decades later they took a trip to London and didn't recognize it as the Britain they knew. All they could do at that point is apologize for what they did. I wish I could still find it.

The KKK hasn't done anything of significance since at the very latest the 60s. They're just a bunch of angry white men shouting about how they hate niggers, which is fine by me. I'm saying this as a black man: BLM is more of a terrorist threat, by a longshot than the KKK.

You know, if black people and white people just got together and said openly what they thought about each other once a month, I think a lot of people would feel better.

Instead we're pretending like racism either doesn't exist, or is a one-way street. Black folk need to come out and vent their frustration with Whitey, and white people need to just speak their mind about the negroes. Just once a month, so everybody can have their voice heard every now and again.

>>87547132
>Instead we're pretending like racism either doesn't exist
On an individual level it does, that should be obvious. When people say that racism does not exist they are referring to institutional racism. And if you claim that it does exist you must offer a specific policy, agency, or something in the US's system that is discriminatory. Most of the time when I ask for this people just respond with disparities.

>or is a one-way street
I think the blacks who believe that only whites can be racist are a very select few who are just vocal, and even a lot of white people think this way. I've never seen anyone other than college aged people think like this too.
