The moment Warner releases this junk in a standalone set is also the moment they start mixing these shorts with the earlier, more classic cartoons—and at least relatively better modern cartoons—in their T&J anthology releases.

We personally may not care because we already have a lot of T&J anthology releases, but this will mean the lousy 1970s cartoons are actively turning away the kids who buy the new releases.

Warner is inept enough to let this happen, so I don't think we should give them the chance.

Current Tom & Jerry, by a longshot. Kids at least had a catchy theme song and the Droopy & Dripple shorts were entertaining. The Tom & Jerry shorts themselves weren't great, but they weren't really that different from most attempts at recreating the magic of the original shorts (which many have tried, but none have succeeded in).

Honestly, Tom and Jerry is my favorite Golden Age cartoon series. Disney had great animation, but the stories never interested me much, and they weren't shown off all that much on TV. Looney Tunes was alright, but it hit its shitty age a lot quicker than Tom and Jerry did. Tom and Jerry had a nice balance of comedy episodes and the occasional episode with a more serious plot, especially in the MGM era. Chuck Jones' shorts are different, but by no means bad. Deitch completely missed the point of the spirit of Tom and Jerry. Any Tom and Jerry series after the Golden Age pretty much also misses the point or just relies on a pale stereotype of the characters with none of the atmsophere and emotion you saw in the MGM era. Golden Age Tom and Jerry is a home-run hit in terms of simplistic story telling, A+ animation, and comedy, nothing Hannah Barbera would do after this would ever supersede it in terms of quality.
