Panty and Stocking was inspired by western cartoons sure, but in essence its still an anime. The animation and writing are fundamentally different than anything in the west despite the efforts of making it look like PPG, Billy and Mandy etc.

That's literally all this is based off of. It's heavily inspired by Western cartoons, hence why it's HONORARY /co/ and not actually /co/. It's the same reason that Afro Samurai is considered honorary anime yes I know it is technically actually anime because it was created by a Jap studio, but the actual essence of the show is Western through and through despite the fact that the storytelling, style, humor, and dialogue are distinctly not Japanese. It was inspired by anime, but that doesn't mean it is directly copying anime cliches and tropes.

Anime/Manga and Comics/Cartoons are entirely separate. Even if comics/cartoons were produced more akin to anime/manga, the cultural differences between America and Japan would create sufficient differences to justify a reasonable distinction.

This argument works way better with regards to vidya gaems, where the differences between western games and eastern games is largely exaggerated for shitposting effect.

There isn't any difference between one western show and another? Every cartoon made in japan is the exact same? This is essentially what you're saying, as both /a/ and /co/ have shows that come from wildy different places in terms of themes, culture and overall design coexisting on the same board.

It is strictly because (in addition to simply being too big for one board in terms of unique threads) of this 'us and them' mentality that was created by manga entertainment and the like selling anime as TOTALLY HARDCORE AND DIFFERENT FROM YOUR PUSSY WESTERN CARTOONS by selling the equivalent of heavy metal or fritz the cat.

That is not to say that there is no cultural difference between the two at all, but the distance is heavily overstated because western and japanese media have taken turns stealing from the other ever since before the A-bombs dropped.

If it's not western and not animated nor a comic, then it is not /co/ It's real simple. I'd argue the only "honorary /co/" things are actually animations/comics that aren't western that aren't allowed to be discussed on /a/.
