Yes, I know there were some widescreen VHS tapes but they were very rare and not as commonplace as widescreen LaserDiscs.
Also, I know that there are some Pan and Scan LaserDiscs (I think I have some P&S LaserDiscs of the Indiana Jones movies and the Star Wars Trilogy from Japan somewhere) but they were very much like widescreen VHS tapes AKA: Very rare.
