How did Baloo get away with this? You would think someone well educated like Bagheera would rebuke him after this.

Is it really racist if they were the only other characters beyond the mouse that wasn't a total asshole to the Dumbo, and even significantly help him to become famous and beloved?

That's the thing. On the one hand. It's stereotyping 101. On the other >>87472128
it was pretty harmless.

I'm the one that posted that and lemme put it to ya like this: I'm black and they've always been my favorite characters in that movie.
Looking back it seems racist as fuck, but I didn't give a fuck back then and I'm having a lot of trouble giving a fuck now.
Their scene and Pink elephants on parade are what I remember enjoying the most about the movie. That song was catchy as hell.

it's dumb to get mad at a stereotype that's accurate. that's just how rural southern folk talked and acted. People enjoyed watching it because it was more interesting and dynamic than their buttoned-down civilized city life allowed for.
now when you get into full-on mammy shit, now you're more in the area of banditos: an accurate stereotype that's just way, way outdated.. and in that case, you need to establish the time period, because it's not cool to say that shit still-is the way it used-to-be, for better or worse.
