I think MvC1 giving Ryu 3 different movesets (Ryu, Ken, and Akuma) that he could switch between was a brilliant way of having those movesets in the game without wasting character slots. I really feel like they should do this again with Ryu for MvC4.

Sora is the developer who made Smash4, led by Sakurai; which developed the game with some help by Namco Bandai. But they were using Nintendo IPs

Sora is basically one of Nintendo's developers, i'm not sure where exactly the level of ownership lies but they only make games for nintendo. Meanwhile the current MVC4 scenario resembles this in no way. The game is made by Capcom which are also the owners of 50% of the IPs in the game with 50% characters from Marvel. Capcom is a publisher and developer and is basically hiring Platinum in the same capacity Nintendo hired Namco Bandai to help Sora make Smash. The most predictable outcome will be that the game is Multiplatform becsuse there's no reason for Capcom to want to limit their sales to a single platform, and we don't know whether they're going to rely on funding from a company like nintendo sony or microsoft like they do sometimes nowadays.

Games don't really sell comics, either. Comics are a dying medium. If anything, Marvel will use this game to sell movie tickets, not comics. Personally i think they could tap into a whole new audience by doubling down on the single-player; casuals are mkre liable to be engaged by something they can do on their own. I think it'd be cool if you chose your character which was your "leader" and adventured from location to location (levels selectable from an overhead map) and fight marvel/capcom characters. When you defeat them in battle, you recruit them to your team, and can rotate your team of 3 characters. Health carries over between fights, only recovering about 15% naturally to compell you to use a variety of characters. But besides that, you'd accrue Zenny (capcom universe money) from fights which you could spend on items like health and upgrades as well as tactical items to augment your playstyle exclusive to the single player mode like speed or damage boosts at the expense of other stats so i could make like a really fucking fast Spidey then call in my super slow tanky Hulk to be more tactical in fights. Also, simple beat 'em up style bonus levels against miscellaneous marvel/capcom mooks for the sake of getting xp and zenny. And you can unlock charscters costumes stages music art etc eith zenny too.

Does that sound fun?

I just want it to take place after the merger in MvC3. One could only imagine how much of clusterfuck THAT would would be. Have the story be like in Blazblue's arcade mode, where the story happens midway through the ladder and near the end before the final boss. To be honest, its kind of scary how there's the possibility we can't get X-Men characters.

Like most people associate that it was because of the whole disney buyout that led to the massive X-Men/FF ban; but in reality, this happened even prior to the Disney Buyout.
Capcom's original plan was that Deadpool and X-23 were supposed to be the only X-Men characters in MVC3 as they were the few non-MCU affiliated characters Marvel were okay with in terms of licensing.
It was Seth Killian (who is a huge figure in the competitive fighting game community, had a role with Capcom as a manager prior to being laidout and whom had contacts with Quesada) that managed to do some convincing for the X-Men characters like Wolverine and Storm to get in the game (according to some accounts by Matt from 2BFP and Maximillian), and even then, characters like Cyclops and Colossus couldn't make the cut due to this bad image the X-Men were having towards this movie licensing conflicts.
Its for similar reasons regarding movie promotion and licensing that we got to see Nova and Rocket Raccoon on UMVC3 as a marketing play towards Guardians of the Galaxy which at the time barely had any information in regards to its story.

It is hard to tell, I think a lot of it comes down to how sfv is doing and then how umvc3 did

SFV did underperform, not bombed like some people try to make out but 1.4 mil when the aim is 2 mil isn't hitting the mark they wanted just decent. UMvC3 actually sold worse that sfv at a time when fighters were doing well. Now the only fighting games selling amazing are NRS ones, so I can see that putting Disney off but saying we can get you over a million sales isn't exactly a bad deal especially with the next part.

Everyone wants a bit of that esports pie right now, and despite the sales SFV is doing very well there but somehow so is marvel. Attendance and viewership are up, Canada cup had a 240% increase in attendance and sfv at evo got 2 million unique views. What is important though is marvel was still being played on that same stage. Everyone has already tried and failed to turn their franchises into mobas, but fighting games not so much (at least recently) and when you already have an established one with the old one still being played despite so many issues that doesn't look like an awful deal.

The other factor is Disney closing it's game studios, this mean they will have to seek out others to do their games as they will want that. Capcom has a good history with Disney, and while budget is a problem marvel has always been a series of doing it on the cheap.
