>What is Revolution?
Remember when you were a kid and you'd put all your toys together, making Snake Eyes and Flint ride on Optimus Prime while you pretended that your M.A.S.K. Thunderhawk could turn into something that wasn't a car with its doors open? It's basically that.

>What is being storytimed?
This week we have - Transformers: Till All Are One: Revolution (Yes, that is the official title), Revolution #4 and ROM #4

YOOOOOO.
Kind of disappointed they went with his RiD2015 design though. His design in Revolution and Micronauts was fantastic.

This is so bizarre.
I REALLY hope we get an explanation as to why Micronus just sent Windblade tied up to bait Shazraella.
>>

His Revolution design was basically the Covenant one in RID15 colors.

That's the end of the issue itself but there's still a little bonus
>>
There's something about the way this guy draws I find way more appealing than Sakamoto. It's not butt-in-your-face sexual like his. Just sexy enough without it purposely being forced.

He went full dad Prime on Windblade and caressed her cheek only for her to blow up on his ass in the next 2 seconds. How are the others just watching this silently.

>>87413510
Also I realize he is not caressing her cheek but only patting her on the shoulder. This is no father, he's a general through and through. Primes are a rouse.

>>
>>87413299
>Super Windblade kills Starscream
>Windblade x dying Starscream

>Battle guns up Windblade
>Fantasy pixie Windblade and Starscream

So many possibilities.
>>
>>87413427
To be fair, Micronus did the exact same shit. He abandoned his colony and left them dead, slaughtered to the black box consorta and now he's asking for help on behalf of his people yet again? I mean, if I were Optimus I would still help them cause his people are innocent but Micronus is a terrible Prime.

It's good on its own. It's just a little bit underwhelming within Revolution since ROM is just one guy and with very little history known to us as opposed to the Cybertronians,Micronauts, and Joe's who have established themselves already. ROM is only 4 issues in but it's been a pretty good ride for literally just having started.

Remember the time Rom was almost a Transformer?

>Presumably intended as part of a Series 2 single-pack assortment, Bot Shots Jump Shot Rom the Space Knight is a redeco of Cindersaur (which was itself originally based on Prime Skystalker). He transforms into a beaky-looking reptile thing on wheels. An impact to the front of his beast mode causes him to spring up and autotransform into a robot armed with a pistol. He has a "spinner" in his chest that shows his three attack types and power levels.

>This mold was also used to make Skystalker and the similarly-canceled Buzzclaw.

She could've been a mininbot helping Scream, she could've been so important he'd sacrifice himself for her, she could've been his killer, she could've been born in a war himself with Chromia at her side, or she could've been a Titan. Mind you, I don't quite understand why Micronus has to peel Windblade's AU selves apart and rebuild them to put her into Microspace mentally but eh, fucking Primes.
>>

>>
>>87418651
Titans aren't normal beings, the very concept of death is alien to them.

Here we see its thoughts ranging through different possibilities, through different universes.
Windblade is caught in its wake, experiencing so many things she could have been... at least until the mother of titans can focus its mind on such a small being's existence.

Marvel owns everything but Rom and everything that was mentioned in this commercial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktFvrEQKdjw
That includes their design for the Dire Wraiths. So this is basically a ground-up reinvention without Brandy or Galador or blobwraiths or anything else, but it's still great, and very much in the spirit of Rom.
(Same goes for Micronauts, except that they've basically been reinvented entirely as "tiny GOTG".)
>>
>>87425128
>Before entering the Entropy Storm, Karza was almost kind of reasonable for a villain.
He's still somewhat noble. At least he's trying to do something about the entropy storm. He went into another universe and has picked a fight with EVERYONE to save his own.
>>
>>87426280
Basically, Hasbro owns the rights to everything that appeared in the original commercial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktFvrEQKdjw

So, that actually included the Dire Wraiths.

Marvel had everything they invented to fill in the comics. Which included anyone not wrong, and what the dire wraiths were.

So IDW had to redo them, and include their own characters.

Much like the Micronauts. Hasbro owns things like Acroyear, Pharoid, Space Glider, Karza. Marvel owns things like Arcturus Rann, Bug, Mari, etc.

How bad are events usually? I don't read the big 2 and stick to smaller companies like IDW. I'm not even implying that Revolution was bad in the slightest because I'm loving it but it's very simple storytelling and straight forward, how can there NOT be an event this good in years?
>>
>>87426157
Why didn't Naoto use this (superior) design for the TAAO tie-in? Naoto why?
>>
>>87426817
They tend to be subject to a lot of editorial meddling, overreach themselves in trying to be "THE BIGGEST AND MOST IMPORTANT EVENT EVER", and they always derail every other book with tie-ins.
That, and in Marvel's case they're usually given to hack writers like Bendis.
>>
>>87426563

>>87413630
God I hope although judging by >>87413756 he might have stayed with the Zulu/Bravo team and Shipwreck, we only see Scarlett and Roadblock in Revolution #4 and Snakes is already in Autobot City so...

Also this cover >>87413510 has a TF's hand there so I guess whoever joins we'll see them there.

Also if anyone cares Barber was asked why Aileron wasn't in the Action Man Rev story and this is what he said on his twitter (I kind of put all his tweets together).

>Originally it was going to be something with Kup and Action Man but then it seemed as we got further on Revolution proper, the better story was what happened to Aileron after Revolution #2. I mean we had all of Revolution planned out, minus some details, but seeing what actually made it on to the page suggested this might be a story.

>So @Rufio_420 and I planned for that...and I started writing it. I think I got the whole thing broken into pages maybe even some of it actually written, but I wasn't happy with it. It felt like I was making up a fake story—like something that didn't need to get told, and where the emotional stakes for the characters were too artificial, and not very interesting

>Then something shifted in another comic and Kup was pointedly free, so I suggested I bring Kup in, having been captured in Revolution. Plus, I knew what @glovestudios and I were doing in TF Revolution and what @aubreysitterson and @musashinoelegy were doing in GI Joe so I thought maybe we had a story that fit in with those one-shots, sorta, and was a lead-in to Revolutionaries, sorta...

>And once I started writing the Action Man/Kup stuff, it really flowed and really felt right But, hey, nothing wrong in my book with an extra Aileron cover out there... sorry it doesn't reflect the issue, though.

I'm kind of glad IDW decided to jumpstart ROM and make Marvel butthurt (enough to challenge them copyrighting the Dire Wraith name at least) especially since if Marvel had kept the rights to ROM Bendis would have been writing him (and I'm not making this up, Alonso said it himself, Bendis has been itching to write ROM).
>>
>>87426870
That sounds awful. It's a shame actually good comic books like the stuff IDW is publishing et overlooked because they aren't in the big two. Pretty much every book within the tie-in have been more entertaining than what I've read of the DC and Marvel storytimes.

The new superman is pretty good though.

>>
>>87427074
Yeah a lot of comic book readers have a "If it's not Marvel or DC I don't care" attitude or the comics have to be something popular like The Walking Dead.

I think SAGA has good sales numbers, not sure.

That said the IDW stuff doesn't sell as good as the Big Two although DC is giving them a push by letting Batman crossover with the TMNT and doing the Love is Love thing (which IDW is printing which also lets the Marvel exclusive artists and writers participate because of it).

That said Big Two events only do good when it's a small crossover event between properties that aren't A list or that most readers don't care about like Annihilation for example, the problem is that they also go overlooked.

Yeah and she really doesn't care, it's what I always liked about GI Joe that the women and men cared more about ranks and people proving themselves reliable and competent more than they ever cared about gender.

Hell the GI Joe cartoon had the women occasionally leading a team and the men following them, it had the guys being hardasses towards the women the same way they would to any other guy and they didn't complain about it because they were in the military.

Coba had Baroness as one of the leaders, Zarana got into fistfights with the other Dreadnok, it was really ahead for an 80's cartoon.

>>87431274
It was delayed.

And, well... not so much. Well, maybe MASK, but given that's not starting until afterwards, you see the problem.

The only one where this event is explicitly important would be Micronauts, because of them being here is a result of their own quest in a serious way.

Pretty much.

I think they did a oneshot "Road to Revolution" which had some issues to try and set the theme.

GI Joe Revolution is delayed and won't come out until November 16

MASK and GI Joe will start post Revolution and ExRiD/Transformers will relaunch as Optimus Prime and at the most I guess they will all acknowledge some of the events that happened but won't really tie-in.

ROM seems like it won't tie to Revolution since the issue before the ROM: Revolution issue came out today and that ended with two new Space Knights dropping by and the main title will pick up from there.

Micronauts might be the only one that the tie-in will really matter because their comic ties to Micronaut: Revolution and that story plus Revolution brought them from Microspace to Earth and I guess their title will deal with them being

MTMTE and TAAO will just relaunch and continue normally, MTMTE will become Lost Light and MTMTE: Revolution will be more about the Scavengers than the Lost Light.

That said I would like Ian to meet the Wreckers, especially Springer since he's like Kup's other grandson.

>I can fucking see Starscream doing that, no joke.
Sad thing is I was debating putting Optimus down, which would be controversial and might start an argument. I didn't want to bring political shit into the thread, as such, just make a joke. However IDW Optimus...I can see him doing that too. I don't know what the hell is going on with him anymore. One moment he's denying any "manifest destiny" for himself but the next he's annexing Earth and having visions, plus all the other crap going on.

Also a bit interested in Windblade referring to Micronus as a god. I mean it's no real surprise, really, given the colonies, including her own, were founded by the Primes and the worship them as holy figures. Plus prior to Galvatron offing Nexus they were believed unkillable to any but each other.

I've been trying to figure out how they all fit together with the Guiding Hand and the Knights. Especially the Knights! They supposedly built a Utopia on Cybertron and yet the Thirteen are credited with creating civilization. I suppose as we know it, but...what happened to the Guiding Hand's utopia? And that's when a sneaking suspicion crawls over me. Because this IS IDW and hope pretty much is a lie no matter what. I wonder if the Knights will turn out to actually be the Knights of Unicron. Can't wait for Rodimus to find those guys! They're supposed to be some great and powerful wise dudes who will, oh shit why not say it, make Cybertron great again...only they might turn out to be the worst lie hope ever spawned.
>>
>>87435268
That raises an interesting question. While it's true not every mechanical race originate from Cybertron, if the Junkions were the children of one of the Thirteen Primes...whose kids would they be? Maybe Nexus wasn't killed by Galvatron but seriously fucked up, he escaped and the his kids worshipped him as a guy who looks like a piece of shit?

On that note, I'm curious about Micronus. He supposedly abandoned his world to die and yet he obviously cares about Microspace. I like to imagine he left Cybertron thinking, "Fuck those guys! I'm making my own world filled with tinier men! It'll be AWESOME!" And then millions of years later. "FUCK the Minicons! These ungrateful bastards! I'm going to make a new, tinier universe filled with even more tiny men! And women! They'll be fleshy with rocking tits and sidecuts!"

And then he died.
>>
>>87414046
Well they are shapeshifters.
>>
>>87436412
So far the comics have suffered from a common problem with mass crossovers: nobody seems to follow the same art direction.

Sure people have their own styles, but there's been some fairly odd divergences thus far. The most interesting, perhaps, being Micronus.
>>
>>87435622
> I don't know what the hell is going on with him anymore. One moment he's denying any "manifest destiny" for himself but the next he's annexing Earth and having visions, plus all the other crap going on.
The deal with Optimus, consequence of combining with Prowl aside, is he's trying to be exactly what people want him to be- a prime.
What made Optimus such a good leader is that he built himself from the ground up and followed his own ideals rather than trying to fit some preconceived notion of what a Prime SHOULD be like. He never considered things like "holy duty" or destiny but when he saw how unsatisfied everyone was with him, especially the Mistress of flame, for not being the living GOD he was supposed to be, he tried to figure out how to be that guy and thus seeked out Camiens like Aileron and the Torchbearers to teach him. It doesn't help that IDW Optimus has aways been prone to self-doubt due to crippling humility.
What's worse is things ARE moving in his favor and according to prophecy making things even more confusing because all these things suggests he is on the right path. The metrotitan is there, Onyx has been to Earth, the engima, etc.

tl;dr
He tried to continue being himself and people complained.
He tries to be a Prime? People complain,

There's no satisfying anyone and being Optimus is suffering.
>>
>>87436893

Depends how the artist interprets it, pic related shows a more heavy lining indicating plates, though I assume that'd quickly become to cluttered and get in the way of the actual expression when pushed in drawing (Brainstorm's face with the visible hinges (?) at the side is also a good take, but it also gives him a sort of skeletal look). I usually go with the headcanon of "the metal covering their faces is made of a more malleable/elastic alloy".
They said that certain pistons in Ultra Magnus' jaw one would need to smile hadn't been used in centuries, so that's a factor.
>>

Basically, imagine Bayformers "flayed metal human" looks but with some smooth elastic metal putty over it.

How do you suppose energon, oil and gas tastes to these guys?

Did any of them describe a flavor in an issue or so/
>>
>>87440851
The flavor of energon has unfortunately never been described in flavors and more along the lines of "this energon has one hell of a punch". It's all kept very vague.

Transformers can eat organics though so they can probably "taste" non energon things too and pick up flavors maybe?
>>
>>87440851
Well ultimately taste is a form of chemical analysis.

The five basic tastes are Bitter, Salt, Sour, Sweet, and Umami.

Bitterness is a form of toxicity detector. Many toxic compounds in plants are bitter in taste.
Therefore, a Cybertronian analogous taste would probably be towards rust. Ores corroded and covered in oxides probably taste bitter.

Saltiness is the taste of sodium ions, and other alkaline metals can trigger it (depending on how close they are to sodium) making them taste salty as well.
These chemicals are used for the transition of signals between cells. So probably equates to low electrical conductivity. Silver, copper, gold. All would probably taste salty to a Cybertronian.

Sour is the taste of acidity. This is often a sign that foods are being broken down, or going off.
In a Cybertronian, I'd say that radioactives would taste similar. The closer something is to its half life, the more "sour" it is.

Sweetness is obviously the taste of sugar, but we crave it because sugar is an easy source of energy.
Fuels like energon, oil, and similar will taste sweet. The more energy stored in them, the sweeter the taste.

Umami is often a bit foreign to our ears, but it's well known to our mouths. The brothy, meaty taste that's found in foods such as cheese, mushrooms, vegetables, and other such filling foods.
It's the taste of glutamic acid, not just our most abundant neurotransmitor, but also used to help dispose of excess nitrogen.
I'd say that most metals would have an umami taste. They may not be exceedingly salty, but they're filling, and tasty.

So, your average energon would start off very sweet. But the more unstable it gets, the more sour it becomes. Nucleon, which appears to be an unstable form of Energon, is likely an Enriched form, somewhat sour.

It's also potent as hell, thanks to the adverse reaction radiation has to the systems in a Cybertronian's body. Causing a state much like inebriation.
>>
>>87441665
This is the longest analysis I've ever seen regarding the taste of energon.

How did Megatron put up with his bullshit for so long?
>>
>>87443611
Decepticonism is based on the rule of the one most able and conquer those who are weaker. If Starscream's fight smarter, not harder plans worked, it would prove that he is more fit to lead than Megatron. Megatron therefore will assert dominance over Starscream, showing that he is presently more fit to lead than Starscream.
>>
>>87443804
So what you're saying is that Megatron keeping Starscream alive for so long was to prove that he was not afraid of his constant plotting.
It makes sense because killing him at first sign of mutiny would make Megatron appear to be scared of betrayal thus showing weakness.

>>87445564
Thomas the Tank Engine sensory organs are mostly useless for needs of a being that exists inside a rail system. Only the ability to detect surrounding hazards to take alternate routes and the ability to communicate with other trains to avoid collisions are needed, and as shown by most stories the redundant systems don't work for the needs of them.

I always assumed faceplated bots don't have mouths. Just a solid sheet of metal. Which would grant a lot more protection to the face in general.

They vocalize through speakers and shit in their head.

The whole "face beneath their face" thing just seems weird. Theres no reason to assume that, since they're robots. You've gotta take their face at face value.

It's fascinating that of all the things to appear consistently in the franchise over the years; the sadomasochistic/dysfunctional-couple dynamic that exists between Screamer and Megs is one of them.
Even Bay alludes to it.

Given that gay-robots is now a thing for the Transformers comics, I wonder if any of the writers would have the balls to make it canon. Or is it just one of those subtextual things that should be left eternally as it is?
What would the reaction even be?

The real reason in G1 is he couldn't outright murder him, at least until the 1986 movie (I think they were kind of getting tired dealing with Latta anyway; sad but he had a lot of problems) so he's become a mainstay, the earliest status quo to which, let's face it, we keep returning time and time ago no matter how often we get a new version of the Transformers story.

Not sure about the comics. At least in places like the movie he and bits of TFP he IS competent and a leader in his own right (even if he never, EVER manages to succeed for long) he remains useful.

He merged with them. He basically just injected himself.

A better argument for him being fine is if he can control that many wraiths at one time then he can surely resist any tiny fragments of them that might try to spread within his body. That said, it would be a way to leave a bit of Rom in the Micronauts comics. Otherwise it's really the hardest comic to get to interact with the others. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, mind you.
>>

Wraith "infections" are intelligent so I can imagine it talking to him, offering advice, or just influence.

Also I guess we need to see how this ends. Maybe he doesn't have the control he thinks he has, or maybe in defeat he loses control which would be dangerous for him.
