The romance subplot has gone from 1 to 100 in no space of time at all considering recent episodes and these episode descriptions, if they are to be believed that is.

Hopefully Jackie gets some serious development in these episodes, we still don't know anything about her outside of being cool and liking skating. I'm somewhat confident she will, given how the Janna episodes gave her a heap of screen time and development.

Well, I suppose I meant development relative to the show's other secondary cast. A shallow, shallow pool I must admit but it was something different added to the main dynamic as opposed to just being backdrops, such as Ferguson and Alphonso.

But you have a point. I just wish the secondary characters were used regularly for that role, offering someone for the main cast to play off of or the episode to be structured around without being the complete focus of the episode. Janna could be used for all these interesting things if the show just did it's usual magical adventures spiel and included her from time to time.

I like it, have liked it more or less since the middle of the first season (I'd watched it since the series premiere but didn't consider myself a fan until that point) though my interest in it kind of fluctuates depending on how much I enjoyed the latest episode.

I hope a variation on the Moon/Toffee plot does happen, but with Toffee and River instead. Toffee and River had a thing going on but River left him because of Moon.

As a result Toffee has a grudge against both the kingdom of Mewni and manlets, which explains his interest in Star's wand and the magic that stole River away from him, and his treatment of Ludo. River, on the other hand, is in denial about his past relationship with a hot monster and overcompensates now by hunting them for fun.

This relationship is also hotter and more progressive than Toffee/Moon. Imagine Toffee lifting River up with his tail to kiss him and tell me you're not incredibly turned on.

At first he wanted him to die because he ruined the Blood Moon Ball thing and is competing with him over Star's affections. He sort of seemed to accept Star wouldn't get back with him, Marco or no Marco, and just started to loathe him, probably still for ruining the BMB but also out of jealousy as Star is friendly and affectionate with Marco and hostile towards him.

But after Friendenemies, they found out that they can actually have a genuinely good time together, that they're both pretty lonely, have similar interests and enjoy each others company, and gave enough of a shit about Marco's feelings that he went all out and sang a cheesy love duet with him to both show he's genuine about liking Love Sentence and as an I'm sorry, and even resurrected his fave actor despite having called his movies garbage just earlier and despite the resurrection being so taxing it made him faint. From his expressions it seems he's also not used to being yelled at. He also indicated Mackie Hand is "the real deal after all" in the end.

He did start the evening under false pretenses, sort of disliking Marco, but I think they genuinely warmed up (hue) to each other, and the "still don't like ya" is just sort of mild tsundere no homo bullshit. Sort of like "I used to think you're the worst and am not ready to admit I changed my mind, but you're kinda cool, you dick"

So I'd guess now it's friendship and companionship he's after, at least. If his sexuality is flexible enough (or if the Marco 1/2 storyline of my dreams happens) we might even get him sort of coming on to him. Or, if there's Starco developments, he might feel lied to and betrayed and get furious again.
