Bullies.
>>
>>87391277
No, he's right, that's kind of a dick move.
Now, if he tagged #Champions on the other hand, Waid would have no right to complain.
>>
>>87391277
I would tell Mark Waid his new comic is bad to his face.
But maybe I'm not "hip" and "with it" like this guy double my age is.

Man, that comic was complete SHIT.

But going to his Twitter and insulting him won't make it get better.

Later you ask why creators hate fans.

Champioms is still garbage.
>>
>>87391277

If anything it's a wasted opportunity to better describe how the comic isn't good. But then Waid probably wouldn't respond.

It's just like how baiting on here works, the more incendiary comments get attention.
>>
Kids really want a story about sex trafficking goth clowns.

It's what they've been waiting for in their colourful cape books.

You're a fat, short middle aged balding man. You think you're seriously intimidating anyone?
>>
>>87391384
You see I don't understand how criticizing something in real life makes you a "tough guy".
Oh no, this steak I ordered is raw. And these green beans are more salt than bean. Well I don't want to cause a scene, I guess I'll just eat it and buy Occupy Avenger next week.
>>
>>87391277
>would you say that to my face

Yes? That was the point of the tag?
>>
>>87391277

Thing is, complainer dude is entitled to his opinion.

But it would be nice if he could actively defend it on a platform that doesn't limit you to 140 characters per post and in a way that isn't just an equivalent of "SHIT SUX BRO, GIT GUD".
>>
>>87391315
>Later you ask why creators hate fans.
Because they're babies that can't take criticism? Get over yourself, just because a guy tagged you doesn't mean you have to reply to him. This is just how Twitter works. Deal with it.

>>87391442
I really shouldn't have to point out the difference between the two situations.
Ordering something and complaining when it doesn't meet your expectations is not the same as buying an already made product and expecting it to be tailor made for your tastes or assuming it's bad only because you don't like it.

>>87391551

Ok, so question, why do creatives put themselves on a place where they can get feedback if they can't roll with the punches?

It wouldn't be hard to have a blog or something where they could have closed comments.

>Would you say that to my face?
I think this is kinda silly. First of all, it's not like everyone has the opportunity to go to cons and the like. So twitter acts as a way for fans to interact and let their feedback be known--especially with the demise of letters pages.

>>87391508
>No, it isn't. You can talk about someone without tagging them.
But then how would they know you were talking about them?!?!?! ;_;
>>
>>87391608

So basically you're saying that everyone who didn't like the first two issues of Champions only did so because it wasn't specifically tailor-made for them? You're saying they were good?
>>

>I think this is kinda silly. First of all, it's not like everyone has the opportunity to go to cons and the like. So twitter acts as a way for fans to interact and let their feedback be known--especially with the demise of letters pages.

Criticism doesn’t have to be useful. As a creator, you need to be able to take the bad with the good. It's actually more important to be able to withstand bad criticism. So few creators are capable of it without resorting to passive-aggressive reactions or outright quitting the internet.

No, your criticism is totally valid. Older writers are generally going to have earned their writing chops and most of the greats got there over a long career, but when it comes to writing kid appeal stories that speak directly to the youth, putting somebody who hasn't been a youth for years on it is generally going to be a bad idea.
>>
>>87392142

Social media gives the impression that your words have value when they really still mean shit. The only difference now is that there's a 1 in 10000 chance that a dumbfuck (e)celeb will respond.

The ability to sling shit at notable figures is nothing new and I never really got why people take picks of it on twitter. Dude's a fucking hack and deserves this shit, but more enterprising people did did better with the US postal system and a dead animal back in the 90s.

Some people tend to be ruder on the internet than in person. Even if someone were to say they hated Champions to his face, they're less likely to ask him if it was his goal to write one of the worst comics of the decade.
>>
>Creators can't handle bantz

Its the fucking internet jesus christ. Block or stfu. You are not going to stop everyone from tweeting criticism at you.
>>
>>87392284
>How can you inprove if what you did wrong isn't pointed?
That's what I mean by bad criticism. Well-known or e-famous creators have to deal with this sort of thing all the time. And no, it doesn't help them improve. But it's something they have to learn to survive as professionals. More importantly, they have to survive it with dignity and maturity. What Waid is doing is not mature or professional. What Chelsea Cain did? It's cowardice. Neither of them were able to handle the criticism.
>>
>>87393068
>And no, it doesn't help them improve.
but it can lead to them quitting. We need to bash Bendis more on twitter
>>
>>87392778
I liked his DD. Didn't read the San Fran stuff, but the first volume was pretty good.

I think the reason people like it is the mostly phenomenal artwork and consistent color palette. It had a distinct mood and that was quite nice.

The Bullseye stuff was a real bore though. Coulda done without those 4 or so issues.

>>
>>87391277

Sad thing is that the comic didnt read as if it was written by a guy who was the characters age 40 years ago.

Its more as if the comic was written by Space Aliens who never had a concept of teenagers and are basing their writing on third hand information.
>>
>>87393952
So you're one of those "i hate kingdom come" kids. Nice to know.
>>
>>87393184
Kingdom Come's story was by Alex Ross. Waid just did dialogue.
>>
>>87393989
Feel free to explain how Waid's contributions to Kingdom Come are good nostalgiafag
>>
>>87394493
Ross did the plotting and the art, so that means he did most of the story. Waid probably 'helped' but you are right, he sure as shit didn't write the thing.
>>
>>87391277
Should have used the #Champions tag instead. It would hav been mre fitting.
>>
>>87394493

>>
>>87394638
>he didn't give my favorite nu52 characters lines of dialogue so it was shit writing

Now that's what I call a legitimate criticism.
>>
>>87394525
Well, for starters it's much better than Waid's Marvel, my companywarfag.
>>
>>87394871
I agree that bland nostalgia wanking is better than the utter shit Waid's done with Marvel (select bits of DD aside) but that doesn't make it good.
>>
>>87394804
But San Lee's only contributions to the MU WAS writing dialogue and being an editor.
Back then, the artist would plot out the book and then draw the entire book and the writer would insert the dialogue.
>>
>>87395030
It was still a collaborative effort. For example, Stan was the one who made Norman Osborn the goblin, Ditko just wanted it to be some random guy.
>>
>>87394862
>nu52 characters
What? And generally if you put 100 characters in a story but you use 95 of them as furniture then you're failing.
>>
>>87394976
OK, I get it. You're butthurt because KC attacked le edgy 90s capes.
>>
So now DCfags and the usual people that just like to hate others will start hating Waid and all the good stuff he did at DC.
>>
>>87391286
No, it isn't. Twitter is a platform for directly interacting with fans by its very nature. Not all interaction has to be praise. If you don't want to interact with people, disable that, it is one of Twitter's options. If all you want is praise, go fuck yourself.
>>
>>87395728
>I have a right to insult people while hiding behind a fake name!!!!

>>87395831

>>
>>87392065
wheredoyouthinkyouare dot jay peg.
>>
>>87395728
But it wasn't even criticism, it was just a blatant insult. How is that not something worth condemnation?

It's like saying walking outside is meant for direct interaction, so you shouldn't be mad if some hobo walks up to you and starts insulting you while you're buying groceries. Why are people mad at Waid for getting rightfully angry at being insulted, and not mad at the random twitter user for objectively being a twat?
>>
>>87395939
It was criticism. He doesn't like the preachiness.
>>
>>87395084

>It was still a collaborative effort.

You're right on this for part of Lee's books.

>Stan was the one who made Norman Osborn the goblin, Ditko just wanted it to be some random guy.

This was completely wrong though. Lee didn't work on the plotting for Amazing Spider-Man from #18-38, so he never had any input on the Goblin's identity. Ditko verified that it was his own intention to make Norman the Green Goblin (and wrote a letter in 1999 stating that Lee didn't do any plotting during the Master Planner saga). And Lee himself confirmed in 1965 that he had given up and gave Ditko control over the plotting back in an interview in the New York Herald.

So no, Lee and Ditko never argued over the Goblin's identity. They did have conflict over a lot of other things, though.
>>
>>87395973
and then Waid essentially said he was entitled to his opinion. What's wrong with that?
>>
>>87395874
Oh, see, telling someone to kill them self is inviting violence. The rules are: insults are legal, threats are not.

So, I can say your are a dumb festering cunt who fucks goats, but I cannot say that you deserve to be hanged for your close minded opinions.

See how that works?
>>
>>87395939
The point is
>Twitter is a platform for directly interacting with fans

If you do not want to directly interact with people, you can disable the mention notification, and retweet notification, and simply put out advertising (I'll be at the Sheboygan comic-con, etc) and never see how people respond. Beyonce doesn't respond to people, she has an assistant handle Twitter.

Expecting only positive responses, and wanting only praise makes you an asshole, not the people you should be ignoring anyway.
>>
>>87395874
Insulting people while hiding behind anonymity is a no-no too, you know.

>>
>>87396364
Because he is the public figure, not the fans. He is putting himself out there.

Also, he could simply chose to ignore the mean tweets, and only respond to positive ones. That's why he's the asshole. He has chosen to interact with the mean person, and then get mad about it.
>>
>>87396493
I don't agree with your reasoning but you're entitled to your opinion.
>>
>>87396364
The fans don't get paid.
Even if he doesn't get paid for being on twitter, he gets paid to write comic books. His name is associated with them and his twitter alike.
His comments on social media are a reflection (a negative one) back towards the company/ies he works for. It's his job to make money for his company, and ultimately himself. If he alienates people on social media, he isn't doing his job as well as he could.

Obviously, it doesn't matter to Marvel, so I guess it's moot, but ayy.

I'm looking forward to watching how many times they break their own "no punching down" rule.

They'll stop some Hydra or AIM or ULTIMATUM group, or they'll raid Roxxon or Oscorp, and they'll beat the crap out of a bunch of henchmen who are just blue collar guys trying to pay the bills to keep the lights on for their families. But ignore all that, somewhere there is an evil white male at the head of the organization who needs a smackdown.

The comics' premise is doomed to fail because comics dont allow the changing of the status quo. It'll quickly become obvious that any changes they do make are transient. Oh, the stop Roxxon from drilling in the savage land? That has *so* many real-world connotations!

Wanna make them real? Have them go beat up Exxon executives. Or break up megacorporations like AT&T-Time-Warner, the merging companies that own DC.

Not to people directly. After he had his in-theater freak-out over Man of Steel he didn't go tweet Snyder about it.

Him and Spencer.

Imagine what happens to the guy he, as a person with fans who like him, points out "this guy said something mean to me"

This guy, who bought the comic, a marvel customer, is now getting messages saying exactly what this guy did >>87395874
A bunch of insults and threats, and he is cajoled into shutting up or quitting comics.

Waid, as the star, the public figure, doesn't even have to ask people to do this. Doesn't have to hint at it. People do this on their own, with a protect my interests mindset. That shit that happened to Leslie Brown after Ghostbusters? Nowhere did Milo say go do this, but his followers decided to. Waid doesn't have as many followers, but that doesn't matter, as the public figure it is your responsibility to understand that you control a mob.

So, he's an asshole. If he doesn't want negative criticism and insults, he can disable his @s, and chose to ignore them.

Same reason you get fired when you tell customers to move out of the boonies if they want to play Xbox games.

I gotta go with this.

No he isn't.

I think it's very interesting that certain writers can shade/insult whatever book, movie, or show that they don't care for on twitter but god forbid if you start to critique their work. I mean yeah death threats and shit aren't cool but man if you're going to talk shit you better be prepared to have it thrown back at you.

Does Waid tag the writers/whatever or works he shittalks? Because that was entirely what he took issue with.
>>
>>87402933

no because normal people understand not to tag people you shittalk.

/co/ is the person who would see 2 people talking about someone and then run to that person to tell them.

I think it's interesting that people join what is arguably the largest communication platform in the history of humanity and do everything within their power to not actually communicate with anyone.

You know what would be great? If I had a button on my desk that killed everyone on Earth with a Twitter account.
>>
Why are people arguing about this? Ultimately, the guy has the right to tell Waid his book is fucking shit just as Waid had the right to tell him to fuck off

I genuinely believe the world would be a better place if that were to happen.

It's the worst thing to happen since the Emancipation Proclamation.

Good. Maybe he'll take a second look at his draft work.
>>
>>87393822
Please tell me it name drops AOL like that.

OH MAN! Waid's an out of touch grandpa.
>>
>>87402933
He did when Gail told him to calm the fuck down when he lost it on twitter.
>>
>>87396729

While I agree that creators should have a thicker skin, they should not be responsible if retards decide to start a crusade nor are they in control of a mob. That kind of blameshifting is dangerous because it feeds the already toxic mindset of 'I can do what I want without consequences' a lot of the twitter generation already has.
>>
>>87403000
That reminds me more of /co/mbler. Though I suppose it's /co/ nonetheless.

>But going to his Twitter and insulting him won't make it get better.
So? There is literally nothing wrong with telling someone their work is shit

So?
