Monty dying meant more publicity. I think TFS even had a tribute on their Trunks Abridged movie. There were fears that the show would be cancelled which got people who got interested by Red Trailer but ditched it after V1/2.

Now the show has something approaching an actual animation team in terms of size (not just 8 people doing it RvB style) and non-fight animation actually improving. Plus they got all that FullScreen money to spend on advertising and shit.

Way I see it, Ruby and Roman are opposites as foils. Selfish cynic who's only out for number 1 VS selfless optimist who became a huntress to help people. In vol 3 finale, Roman faced the consequence of his own way of life while Ruby doubled down on the selfless heroism to try and save people. Despite failures, Ruby's still continuing on with what she believes in (or maybe she's just really good at pretending she's okay).

Jaune's a different type of foil. He's the type that is very similar to Ruby but with a few key differences. Those key differences become more apparent because they're so similar. They're the kids of the group, not so confident at the start, assigned to be leaders, are optimistic goofballs who faced trials and losses. Except they react and are affected by those events differently. You can see Jaune being changed by the events while Ruby manages to stay consistent. Or at least she appears to be okay.

Actually, I'm not really sure where they're going with Ruby as a character. Is she really unaffected by all these events? The nightmare voices she hears and her tendency not to share her thoughts about the bad things make me think something's up with her. Bottling it up maybe? So despite the way it looks with Jaune as the one who seems to be breaking, maybe they'll do a twist. Maybe Jaune is the one that pulls himself together and Ruby eventually breaks down. Like a pressure cooker that eventually explodes due to not having a release.

Or maybe I'm thinking too much over this and M&K only care about Ruby as a static character.

Well this is going to be the most ignorant we probably ever are, with no development of magic, a bunch of questions razed and weeks more to go.

Well, what other explanation is there? She got there sixteen seconds after the conversation happened. And with how fast she was running, there's no way she was in earshot.

If it's just a nightmare from PTSD or guilt, why isn't she dreaming about Pyrrha blaming her or something instead of creating a dialogue in her head? Heck, she didn't even know about Pyrrha's destiny fixation, so that's another thing her mind would have to come up with somehow.

And so then there's the possibility that the writers just wanted meaningful dialogue between Ruby and Pyrrha for that scene before realizing they didn't have any, resulting in them talkng the easy way out. But that falls apart because they could have just gone with the bit from Volume 1 where Pyrrha tells Ruby and Weiss about her semblance, which as far as the audience knows, are the only two of her friends that she shared that information with.

Of course, it could just be a plot hole formed by writer oversight, but that's a cynical assumption that doesn't really do much to provoke further discussion and I'm trying to give them the benefit of the doubt.

So, either it's magic Silver Eyes nonsense or a plot hole brought about by incompetence.

I think I'll be able to tell when Jaune's semblance would be shown.

For me at least, Ruby's semblance isn't really "speed"". We see that her upgraded semblance doesn't really make her faster but rather gave her more options on movement with an emphasis on more petal usage. I believe the rose petals actually represent her ideals, that perfect fairytale life, her rose colored lenses. Before, she'd just leave them behind but now, after having them tested and broken, she starts to hide herself in them, fighting with them, as if she wants to prove that these ideals are strong and won't lose to the world anymore. She is rejecting the harsh cruel world using her own idealized fairytale.

However, this is still her not confronting her problems. She's still hiding away in her rose petals, even more so, and not directly confronting the reality in front of her.

Now, for Jaune, the most popular theories of his possible semblance are either some form of protection (shield, invinciblitiy) or healing. What does this say about him? Well, for one thing,, both options involve some form of confrontation. There is protection because there is danger. There is healing because there was pain. Either way, this shows that Jaune needs to be able confront something for it to need use as what good is a shield is it has nothing to block?

And here we can sort of compare how they both are taking death and grief. Ruby tries to ignore it and self-internalize it to the point where she'd not face it at all, where she talks to a faceless grave as if she was visiting an out of town relative, she could come and go back to. Compare this to Jaune who faces Pyrrha every night.
