If youve been following Max for a while as I have it's funny because his progression as an artist has almost been the exact opposite of what you would expect of the independent creator.

He started out doing cartoons with a cast of his own characters, had a huge hit with 'Jerry' and made a series out of it. From there he made Wacky Game Jokez which, while still an original cast, was a video game referential series banking on the viewership of the Newgrounds going sprite-movie-watching audience. Next he started doing My Little Pony 'parody' fan cartoons, shorts about Five Nights at Freddy's, and and straight up Mario/Sonic cartoons. Now, in the end, he is doing Clickbait editorial(?) videos on youtube with a stylized self insert talking directly to the viewer, but layered with such an incredible amount of ""ironic"" self awareness to make it completely fucking unwatchable.

pro tip Max: a character whose gimmick is being annoying isn't funny, they're just annoying. Fuck off with the ghost.

I remember a con, giving a talk, in which he was being a dick towards his public for laughs. He was also giving away free videogames to people who could pass some tests he was coming up with on the spot. When someone asked him a question, he responded with a dickish remark and the guy who had made the question responded with a pretty snarky and witty remark, which made the entire audience laugh, Max told him to come up and gave him a free game for his response. So I´d say he´s a pretty chill guy as well.

I get the feeling he cares far more about the animation of his videos than the plot or humor and just sort of uses whatever dumb idea comes into his head next to do some more animation. He's one of the only internet animators who has been constantly improving and experimenting with his their over the years and as a result his videos visually outclass pretty much everyone else out there. From around The Northern Incident onward I think his cartoons have looked better than episodes of your average Nick show which is churned out by a whole team of animators.

I find it funny that people accuse him of selling out because he makes videos about trendy subject-matter and uses clickbaity thumbnails when the fact that he still makes animations solely for youtube at all means that he cares far more about his craft than money compared to almost every other internet animator.

There's different ways to "sell out". He wasn't making money before and he isn't making much money now, but he did definitely switch gears to more original comedy material to just popular show/game parodies to get e-fame, which in turn, can fuel one's patreon.
