I think marvel could do really well with focussing on these types of stories instead of the mini-series anchored things.

This IvX, could work just fine with two 4 dollar bookend one shots, with the story flowing through all 5 team titles, instead of the tie-ins being supplemental.

I like crossovers because they encourage you to buy other series and promote other characters in a relatively non-obnoxious way. Big anchored event comes out and it's easy enough to just drop the book and resume after the new EARTH SHATTERING CONCLUSION has been reached.

Frankly, I'd like to see around 18 issues before a crossover from the main X-title and main Avenger title.

Another example is that the war between Marvel and Fox seems to be mostly at the publishing level. The movies used Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver (OK so they killed him off, but that's Joss Whedon's bullshit), it's the stuff that's more directly controlled by publishing, like cartoons and games, that avoids using them or any character whose rights are owned or shared with Fox.

As a Marvelfag, this is increasingly agonizing, but it definitely speaks to my suspicions lately. Marvel just doesn't seem like it's doing comics which bespeak a love of the characters or the medium or which fans want. They just seem to want to produce comics which they expect us to buy out of some sort of sense of fear that if we don't buy them we're bad people.

It reminds me of one of the most interesting commentaries I heard about the failure of the Ghostbusters reboot: That even the people who in theory supported the idea of the movie were turned off by the preachiness of it and the sense that the act of watching it or not watching it was some sort of ideological battleground. They opted out because THAT'S NOT WHAT THEY WANTED OUT OF A COMEDY.

I get the sense, more and more, that an ideological battleground is not what most readers want out of a comic book either.
