I really like how much the first three books didnt give a fuck. Like how casually it's explained that vegans have psychic powers, or how subspace is treated like an everyday utility. Even in the writing, I think at one point Scott calls his friends 'retarded douchebags' or something similar.

I hope that Bryan Lee O'Malley continues not giving a fuck in his next book, but I'm pretty sure we lost him to tumblr at this point. I read through seconds and it was gut wrenchingly non-offensive.

First 4 books are fun. Ending is convoluted and uninspired. Movie is ok. Game and its soundtrack is amazing, so it all balances out.

Overall, Scott Pilgrim will always be the normie choice because of all the video game stuff, but I think Lost at Sea is the most satisfying read, and Seconds is the most visually interesting.

I read it recently and I liked it. I thought it was gonna be more about videogame logic shenanigans and less teenage (or not so teenage) drama. Kind of disappointed that the ending didn't have any twist at all though.
I see peeople here complain about the extra life thing, but I liked it. It's not like it was a deus ex machina, it was long foreshadowed and it could be easily expected from the reader if they remembered. I also liked how they tackled it in the movie, with the checkpoint and being able to fix his mistakes, like any player would do in any videogame.

I've actually been waiting for a Scott pilgrim thread to post this idea that's been running around in my head the past few days.
So the basic premise would be a TV show based around a rock band set into the 80s. In my vision it would be super comfy, slice of life kind of shit. It would start out with the origins of the band in their senior year of high school, and the first season would end just as they graduate high school and get their first big break after playing progressively better venues.

Now here's where Scott pilgrim comes into the picture. I would want to use the effects from the movie as the inspiration for everything that happens in the show. For instance, I'm thinking that every time the band plays a song at a concert we should crank up the visual effects up to 12 and just go nuts with it. The name of the song appears in puffy clouds of smoke from their shitty smoke machine during the chorus. The effects would still be there outside of the musical numbers, but I feel like they would be best used during scenes for comedic effect or for emphasizing character traits.
