Pretty much. Both Shane and Monty were workaholics in the extreme. They would spend whole weekends alone in the animation department just animating stuff together because that was their jam, but they definitely pushed themselves too far. Am I the only one who's dearly hoping that V4 and later volumes are longer than 12 episodes?

It's clear they're going to spend a third of the show playing catch-up on where everyone is, and it'll probably only be by episode 5 or 6 that Tyrian shows up again. I just think they're going to have too many characters sitting around twiddling thumbs and too many new plot threads made.

If we had 24 full length episodes, this pace would be perfect, but since we have 12 episodes that will vary in length I'm a little nervous.

I have some hope though, since Volume 3 managed to do a pretty good job even though the big changes in the story didn't start until the end of the volume.

Well, it depends on the purpose the main character serves. Factoring in elements like the setting and how other characters are, a static main can be used to give insight into how other characters view things or similar issues, or things like how an organisation operates or whatever.

For something like this, though, which is a standard tale of heroism, leaving its titular character static would probably do more harm than good.

I think it'll be "young idealistic girl tested over and over again but refusing to break her ideals" type of story while her companions will be the ones who are changed. I think that's what they meant by Ruby being static. It's not really character development in the way most people think of it but her character will get fleshed out. Not all static characters are automatically bad after all. For example, if being unyielding in her ideal is the point and they explore that, it's not so bad.

Ruby has a Pyrrha nightmare, then wakes up and goes to find Jaune doing a Pyrrha thing.

I wonder if they'll keep doing Pyrrha things with Ruby.

Because in a normal show, this would just mean the main character is feeling guilt.
But with M&K...Shit, we've all be wrong before about what they've been doing with this show. Quite frequently too.

If they're setting up dead girl's revival over the course of a season, or making it like Ruby absorbed her soul with Silver Eyes hacks while it was still "Around" or whatever, i just can't see M&K pulling thay stuff off. Ever. They aren't that good.
But it's the kind of shit they'd try to pull off because they think they ARE that good.

I wish RWBY was written by one real writer instead of 2.5 "Writers".

I think volume 1 and 2 Jaune was horrible but he's become a character on his own. Volume 3 screentime was pretty balanced and his scenes now actually make sense due to recent events. It didn't feel hamfisted. It also helps that RNJR's dynamic is pretty nice and they feel like a real team instead of Jaune and Pyrrha: the team.
