All I'm missing now are incantation names.
>tfw no Hoary Hosts of Hoggoth
>tfw no Crimson Bands of Cyttorak
>tfw no Book of the Vishanti
and so on...
>>
>>87338972
They BETTER use the incantation names whenever he appears next, I can forgive them for not using them this time simply because he's practically a novice, but between this and the Eye being the Time Gem, the way magic was handled in the movie was seriously mundane. Inception worldbending aside, the only cool sequences were the Multiverse trip in the beginning and the Dark Dimension.
>>
>>87338972

can someone explain to me in a paragraph or less what Cyttorak's motivations are that would cause him to want to help both Juggernaut and Strange
>>
>>87334277
Are the Crimson Bands of Cyttorak confirmed?
>>
>>87336848
Nobody cared who he was until he came here to bargain.
>>
I wonder if he'll wear them in Ragnarok.
Hell i wonder how much he'll be on Ragnarok
>>
>>87340390

Cytorrak is one of the Principalities. He loans magical energy to people all across the multiverse, usually in return for worship (which empowers him) or the promise of favors (which he can cash in at a later time).

Honestly, though, the whole Principality system in the Dr. Strange comics warrants more development. They're often somewhat vague on what the different entities involved get out of it.
>>
>>87340573
It doesn't help that Aaron decided to ignore the principality system and now the "cost" of magic is that it fucks up your body so that you can't eat normal food and other crap. At no point in the whole "God Butcher 2: This time it's magic" arc did they reference any of it.
>>
>>87340697

At least Aaron is only ignoring it, instead of retconning or dismantling it. Another writer can always come along and work on it. That's basically what's happening over in Dr. Strange and the Sorcerer Supremes, a writer is telling a more interesting story about a back corner of Strange's mythology that Aaron has ignored in favor of retreading his God Butcher story.

Hopefully someone comes along and does the same thing with the Principalities some day.
>>
>>87334277
He literally only wears them in a post credits scene.
>>
>>87334277

You that Marvel character sucks when all the character development they get is ''he wears the complete costume during the last minutes!''

The same goes for the netflix shows not using the costumes for most of it
>>
>>87340390
In Juggernaut's case it was specifically because Cain would cause chaos with his powers. Writers later used this to explain why Juggy became a jobbing bitch when ever he went on long stints of being a good guy.
>>

Because his fingers are broken.

>>
>>87340390
Juggernaut is one of 8 beings granted power by extra-dimensional beings having a kind of wager or contest between them, where they all create a champion on earth. Strange, I think it's that he knows how to invoke the power of Cyttorak as a kind of loan or something.

Part of me is a little unsure on that.

What made this film work so well was how unique and vast the magical/cosmic stuff looked; I doubt that the Russos would be able to do it the same justice, unfortunately. I enjoyed Civil War and Winter Soldier, but on spectacle this film blows them both out of the water.

Kirby dots are really hard to do for live action. They just don't look convincing out of their proper medium.
>>
>>87339027
>Inception worldbending

This is pretty different from what Inception was doing. That was just a few spun angles.

This is more like someone read the Mage: the Ascension core book and said "this, I want my magic like that."

>>
>>87354452

Normally I wouldn't say this, but you really NEED to watch this in the cinema.

It's the first Marvel film in a while that actually feels like it takes advantage of the fact that it's a blockbuster. Genuinely stunning visuals.

ohhh gloves, so spoilery. you don't even know the context

>>
>>87354832
Not him, but my favourite moments were Strange's first trip through all the magical realms, the Ancient One, the chase through mirror New York and Strange bargaining with Dormammu and bullshitting his way to coming out on top

I was really high when I went, and it sounds dude weed lmao but the visual element of this film was genuinely mind-blowing. I didn't expect the visual element to get much crazier than what we'd seen in the trailers, but I was wrong.
>>
>>87354952
then don't browse /co/ until the movie is out faggot
>>
>>87354832

Favorite scene was probably how Strange deals with Dormammu by introducing the concept of time into the Dark Dimension trapping him in a time loop until Dormammu is ready to bargain. It was nice to see a hero defeat a villain with his wits instead of through force for once
>>
>>87355047
Wouldn't count dance-off? Though I suppose that was kind of just desperation and balls.
>>
>>87354973

Dormammu looks...
>>
>>87358106

To give explanation to those who haven't seen the movie yet, that ribbed look on Dormammu is actually ripples. His face is constantly moving even when he's not doing anything. And he's not just a head/face. the rest of his body is just too big to be in frame.
>>
>>87358259
So there's a chance we might actually get Death as a Cosmic Abstract personified?
>>
>>87334277
>that floppy collar
embarrassing
>>
>>87343639
>You that Marvel character sucks when all the character development they get is ''he wears the complete costume during the last minutes!''

I don't agree. Give me an example of how you want comic characters done on the big screen.
>>
>>87358106
>>87358259
Yeah, I really liked how the film really worked out how to show magic in a cinematic way, by having shit be constantly moving.

The picture doesn't really do him justice, you have to see it in a cinema for it to really have an impact.
>>
>>87358106
>Dormammu looks...
According to the director, Benedict asked if he could do the motion capture and voice of Dormammu. The Director decided it makes sense, because Dormammu would have no reason to have a face until he actually wanted to talk to Strange. And so officially that face and voice is Dormammu imitating and mimicking Strange.

>>87360655
I was high when I watched it.

The visuals in the first fight were pretty cool but I didn't expect them to go much further than the trailers.

Then I got to Strange's journey through all the dimensions.

Holy shit, in 3D, when you're crazy high, that part is mind-blowing. First time I've actually felt thrilled from a film in the cinema in a while.

The part with the hands genuinely spooked me
>>
>>87360734
>The part with the hands

that shit gave be a boner in my heart
>>
>>87360575
>I know all about the Abstracts bro, I just wasn't sure if they were going to literally use Death as a character or if Thanos would just be a lunatic warlord.
I couldn't find the interview, but basically Marvel said that MCU Thanos' motivation is humanised by making it about being in love. That it makes him a better villain that way.
>>
>>87360863
Well it's what Thanos has, in terms of characterization, to really set him apart from a generic 'conquer the universe' evil space opera villain.

That and his self-defeating complex where he can't let himself win.
>>
>>87334277
How should the MU handle Shuma?
Isn't it even more of a cosmic treath than thanos?
>>
>>87362451

He is, but he has to be summoned. Shuma-Gorath can't actively enter a dimension, he has to have minions and servants in that dimension open the way for him.

watched the cam, the only easter egg that people haven't pointed out and would only recognize if you read the comics was Mordos Boots of Voltor

>>

>>
>>87354859
The story is so painfully straightforward, there's nothing to spoil. It's very Marvel.

Only that scene at the end when Strange goes all Gold Experience Requiem on Dormammu really stands out.
>>
I actually like how they did Dormammu, he really didn't need a body beyond a face since it took place in his domain. However I do hope we see his classic form, along with the mindless ones, in the sequel. How would you anons feel if they gave Shuma Gorath human features? Like Bloodborne one eyed squid man tier?
>>
>>87366310
I think they still have in mind that people were unhappy with Galactus in FF. If they use any of the more abstract characters like Shuma or M.O.D.O.K., they have to stick to the design, however freaky.
