I wouldn't really say embarrassing that he re-used a lot of animation. I think of it like when anime use 'stock-footage' for things. It's probably why Monty was so stubborn about keeping with Poser; my guess is he had lots of old animation he liked and wanted to show.

But yes, RT's production methods and scheduling is pretty shit on the people who end up in situations like the special effects guy.

I actually had a probably dumb theory about why she attacked JNPR in Monty's plan for Volume 3.

If Raven's fully on team Salem, and therefore by extension, the same side as Cinder, she'd have no particular reason to go after JNPR. Cinder didn't have any special interest in them, from what I remember. Since the whole list she had in Volume 2 was rather vague. I'm not even sure if she knew Pyrrha had been chosen as a Maiden candidate, although she probably considered the possibility. If anything, having her show up if she's a known bad guy would probably be actually harmful to the plan in general.

So, I thought about the timeline for when the fight would have to happen. It has to before the events of Chapter 9, because there's no downtime for JNPR to be in a cafe beyond that point. But probably after JNPR, mainly Pyrrha, started getting focus in Volume 3, so after Chapter 5 or so.

In that time span, Pyrrha learns that Ozpin wants her to do the soul transfer thing. So, that probably factors in in some way. The other characters who learn about Ozpin's preferred candidate for the inheritor of those powers are his inner circle. Namely Glynda, Ironwood, and Qrow.

Of those three, Qrow is the one who seems the most outright suspicious of Pyrrha or outright disdainful of the whole Maiden selection rule process nonsense in general. And of those three, he's the only one who we know for sure has been in contact with Raven.

So, the question then becomes what reason would Qrow have for siccing his fully-trained huntress twin on a bunch of freshmen? Possibly to test Pyrrha's worth since he isn't as supportive as Ozpin as he acts? If Summer was one of the people Ozpin sacrificed in his chess game/war against Salem, there's a potential motivation there, since whether you think they had a relationship beyond teammates or not, they were still obviously close. Then that brings the possibility that he's playing the long con, and the Branwens have their own plan.

From reading this my guess would be the fight would happen before Pyrrha's fight with Penny, when JNPR went outside to get some fresh air, but before Jaune had alone time with Pyrrha and she slammed him against the pillar.

I think that'd be a pretty decent placement, and it'd add more internal struggles to Pyrrha which would make her act out like she did to Jaune.

Though, even if Qrow wasn't so sure about Pyrrha being Maiden potential, imo he had full faith in Ozpins decisions.

That seems like a logical place to put it, yeah. Especially since Episode 8 is the only episode in Volume 3 without a single fight scene. It's also the episode where Qrow gives us more detail on her. So, from a storytelling standpoint, it seems sound enough.

The only reason I hypothesize about Qrow not being as on board with Ozpin as he lets on is because I can think of no other motivation. Along with the fact that he went dark for so long is rather suspicious. He gives a reason for it, but I know it's something that RWBYg has criticized a lot.

And then I end up thinking about if Raven is high up in Salem's organization, and she very well could be with the extra seats at the evil council's table, then that means Cinder should probably know her. Or at least know of her. Since we know she managed to mess with Beacon's and Atlas' technology from a virus presumably developed by Dr. Watts. Along with Raven's portals using the same effect as Cinder's Grimm bug summoning.

So, when Raven interferes and prevents Neo from murdering Yang. That raises issues. Because while Neo and her own boss aren't entirely fond of Cinder, Neo has no reason to hide the fact that she got attacked by some masked lady with a sword out of nowhere. So, even if Neo can't identify her, Cinder could probably make a guess. And that means she's directly interfering with the bad guys plans. Sure, she told Qrow to tell Yang not to expect that help again and it isn't a major setback for Team Salem in the grand scheme of things, but villains typically aren't too forgiving of those actions.

So the only possibility I can see is that Raven is a third party.

And since we have two songs, Divide and Sacrifice, criticizing Ozpin's decisions to send people to their deaths, it seems like that has to be a theme eventually.

And while Qrow claims to not agree with Raven's view of the world, which implicitly is anti-Ozpin, there's nothing stopping him from lying.

It's not exactly airtight, I admit.
