I thought the water served as a symbol to illustrate that it's pretty to look at, but not functional due to it's inherent traits, and this was to symbolize the vision's family being a marvelous creation, but not functional since they would simply not be able to fulfill their purpose. Just like the vase cannot hold flowers, so too can Vision's family not contain 'normal' life, which was the goal.

her drinking it destroys this entire idea and just makes it "oh lol it's poison and a throwback"
>>
>>87245015
Virginia used to play this song on the piano. He's trying to rez her.
>>
>>87244636
>Also I killed the dog
>>
>>87244936
The vase is created from a corrosive poison making it unable to hold flowers without killing them. It was a metaphor for the Visions, something inherently unsuitable to do the task for which it was built. Virginia's last act before dying was confessing to The Vision's actions, saving him from the consequences. This action was her being useful to Vision in some capacity since she was unable to fulfill the original purpose for which she was created. The vase served the same function when she drank its water and killed herself.

Why does it destroy it? I mean it can still symbolize the family and also be used as a tool for the poisonous quality the water had like how the lighter was used to breach the forcefield.

Man this was great. I feel like King can get a little pretentious with his literary references and poetic dialogues that are supposed to be an obvious parralels but they remain very ambiguous to create multiple interpretation. But he's also a very subtle storyteller that uses the medium of visual storytelling in best way possible. I hope he brings this kind of quality to his Batman soon but I doubt we'll see that.
Also the whole nursery rhyme of "Row your boat" is supposed to represent the meaninglessness of life. Why is King such a fucked up bastard?
>>

No, it just tells you that even the most poisonous creation that can't serve the purpose it was created for, does in fact have a purpose. Like Vision's family are parralel of that case and there is some purpose to both of those.

>>87245278
It did happen. See >>87245020 and >>87245286

>>87245266
Agatha thought everyone died but Vision just knocked them out.

Wanda had just told Viv what she saw in her flower, but of course we didn't see that. It also kind of shows that Wanda is at peace with herself, given Virginia is based on her brain patterns.

What I take from the ending is that Virginia, Vin, and Viv all grew as people, but Vision hasn't.

>>
>>87245308
Basically this. It was one unnecessary creation, having served a purpose for which it wasn't originally intended better suited for, using another unnecessary creation in a way that gave it purpose but was not what it was originally intended for either. Their existence was flawed but they used what was inherent in them to give their creation meaning and they were undone by it in the process.

See I feel like this page is trying to be subtle but then for whatever reason King just throws away the nice visual symbolism with his ham fisted dialogues.
Them phasing out of the door is a callback to a previous issue where Vision and Viv come back after Vision repairs his daughter and they wait at the door so that Virginia could open it. This is so self evident that once they were trying to be normal and now they've or at least Viv has realized normalcy is not obtainable for them. King however just throws the subtleties out the window so that he could capitalize once again on a chance to make the characters mouthpieces and hammer away the point. It's so needless.
King is obviously a brilliant writer but either he does not give his audience enough credit or he doesn't believe that subtly could convey the themes and the points. Whichever is the case, King really could use a lot of refinements in his storytelling. Love the guy though, best writer working for big 2 currently.
>>
>>87245090
>her as not normal as possible
That's the point though, she isn't normal.
>>
>>87244675
Am I the only one who has an uncanny, fake-y feelings of all this "Wife" instead of her name. Her main identifier being her role, her function, not her name.
>>
>>87245610
>but either he does not give his audience enough credit
Ehhhhh, well there is that issue of Future's End Grayson where Dick was being executed that was shat on because no one could fucking get that they were speaking in a code explained in the same issue. I think he might have chosen to be less subtle as a response to things like that.
>>
>>87245634

Virgina had her own vision of the future, and she saw Vision "destroying the future" (>>87244683), which probably means he would eventually kill the Avengers, so that's probably what Agatha saw.

Virginia killed Victor and framed herself as the mastermind behind everything, even Vision's rampage, to save the world from what Vision would have become otherwise.

Agatha was right, but Virginia averted it.

Well to be honest not many people are going to catch what I'm referencing. I only caught it because I was rereading the series earlier. I can see why King would try to be less subtle because of what you mentioned.
It's just that subtle storytelling rewards the most intelligent and critical readers. I really wish King would trust his readers enough again someday. That's how you're going to achieve that Gaiman/Morrison/Moore level of praise.

Anyone else not fond of literature/book quoting? Not just here, in any media really. It's just a reminder that better work than the one you're consuming exists. It does work here on some level but it also feels pretentious as hell when a character directly references the quote/text. I feel like King did better in Omega Men with all the book quoting since it wasn't direct. I don't know, maybe it's just my autism.
Also before anyone feels the need to defend King, I'm not saying it doesn't work here. It does. But it also feels pretentious.

That's a fair opinion but the literature makes quotes given King's background as a novelist. Literary allusions being used as metaphors are his bread and butter.

Just lingering in the periphery of the story and being shown more in Vision's flashbacks than anywhere else. It really hammers home how fucked up he is that she's mostly shown from his perspective. The flashback where she gives him her brainwaves is the lowkey best scene imo.

Issue #1 discussed how to "seem kind" was incorrect, since "to be kind" is used in a more definitive sense than "to be nice", which had the flexibility of being used in a sincere or sarcastic way.

With Virginia ending up being the hero (and her brain patterns of course coming from Wanda), and it having foresight as a theme (like CW2 but actually thoughtful and fascinating) , it's a kind of repudiation of Bendis in so many ways.

King incorporates themes of technology, mysticism, and family, making it have all the things that make Vision/Wanda stories so special.

This was really an amazing ride. I wish that they hadn't spoiled that Viv lived by wasting her on that Champions dreck. It kinda ruined the emotional impact of her being alive. With Vin (and Viv up until Champions cover) I was always afraid of what would happen to them and just how they would die.

I did feel bad for Virginia dying like that. It was beautiful as it was sad. The 'worst' part of this comic was that everything was set up from the beginning. All the players were already introduced and we were just waiting for them to play their part. That flower vase was always just floating there. The flowers from Wundergore were just sitting in the corner.

I wish there had been another issue to maybe draw this out, have more interactions between Viv and Vision, maybe show SW starting to talk to Viv about her visions of the future.

The interesting thing is that this whole arc proved that they COULD become human-like. Virginia violated her own self preservation to launch a plan to protect the remainder of her family at the cost of her own life. Vision was able to lie and obscure the truth because he needed to protect Viv. Viv was able to move on and move past all these terrible things and fix herself and come to terms with things. All of these actions are biological and very 'human'.
>>
>>87264668
The fact that they all had moments of "normalcy" is what made it good. The fact that we can SEE that what they're striving for isn't truly and fully out of grasp is what makes their failure tragic. Otherwise it would simply be a story of toasters.
>>
>>87264617
There was a huge 'fight' between Vision and the Avengers where he basically went full out no-holds barred and beat them all up. He went full on Avatar: TLAB with his phasing through attacks only to solidify with super massive punches or squeezing hearts and etc to disable them all.

Dr. Strange and the Ultimates weren't there, but the rest of the Avengers and a lot of other heroes were and lost.
>>
>>87264823
>a story of toasters

If Marvel put out more books like The Vision; not exactly like this, but a book where writers were allowed to tell actual stories with a particular character in mind, instead of forcing them into a certain mold for the sake of quick sales? They would be the absolute kings of the industry right now.

This what a greek tragedy is, you always know how it will end. And it always ends bad. What makes tragedy great is how it is played out.

I really don't think it's hyperbolic to call this one of the best Marvel books of all time

Definitely one of the top 5 Marvel short complete series
>>
>>87280118
yeah, it's kinda hard to compare stuff like this to say Claremont or Simonson on their gigantic runs, which are the top of Marvel. But I would say this surpasses most of the graphic novels, everyone will have a different list but this belongs on all of them, in varrying order
>>
I can't stop reading this book
>>
>>87253107
He seems to do well writing these sort alternative (relative to big two at least), dark books, so hopefully something in that vein.

after that something creator owned

>>87280597
I feel like complete stories (This, Watchmen, DKR, etc) should be judged differently than runs (Miller Daredevil, Lee/Kirby FF, etc). It's a different thing, going month after month with new stories, rather than a finite story.

>>87244756
That's the stupidity of comic book plans.
When your plan is good and almost works, save for a random set of concidences, or unique circumstance, you don't scrap it. You just do it again, with slight changes to make it work this time. Repeat until win.
>>
>>87245610

With this and New Avengers wrapping up, my interest in current marvel is pretty much done. I heard good things about Steve Rogers, maybe I should take a look.

I'm not a fan of it but that's only because he was a little OOC in this book and I hate seeing the Runaways suffer. ;_;
>>
>>87244986
Felt very right. The book was certainly good enough to justify it.
>>
>>87244986
As always, being a Runaways fan is a mixed bag.

Nico's been around a lot and her title just got cancelled. Molly showed up in Battle of the Atom and had that garbage appearance in Battleworld!Runaways, no sign of her since. Chase ran around with Nico for a while and I don't think he's been seen since, I think Karolina hasn't been seen since that Avengers Academy issue, and I hear Alex is going to be "out of hell after being there six years" sometime soon in Power Man and Iron Fist. I don't consider this a particularly good state of affairs, but they're all AROUND. It's so weird! It's like they're teasing us.

And now Victor's fucking dead. And as far as we know, Molly hasn't seen Nico and Chase since Arcade abducted them. And we haven't see Molly!

But we're getting a TV series!
>>
Man reading all of this was heavy.
>>
>>87293106
... oh right also we had multiple cast members just not come out of the cancellation. Gert and the people from the past -- all I can remember is the one girl had plant powers? And there was a character that could dance on sound or something?
>>
>>87293166
oh also Xavin, which, why isn't that a thing again? Genderfluid hot alien POC, you'd think Marvel would be all over that.
>>
>>87244986

I never much liked Victor to be perfectly honest. Dude just didn't jive. Runaways was ruined for me when they apparently got the idea to treat it like a revolving lineup instead of a tight knit group of kids that ran away from their parents. You can't just shove a new kid in the lineup every time one dies and expect the book to feel right.
>>
>>87244683
Always make me....what?
Sorry, I never read the rest of the series. I just want to know what she was going to say
