On an X-Men kick at the minute.

LCS just restocked the Claremont omnibuses and they're tempting me every time I go in there.

Only ever watched the first two films and that was back when they first came out, so curious to see how the series went. £15 for the 7 felt like a steal. Rewatched the first one tonight and it was pretty solid, but nothing special.

Hey guys, need some advice. I'm trying to collect all of Lucifer, but the trades are kind of a bitch to track down. I found the first two in a used book store, now I'm thinking of switching to Omnis. What Omni do I start with if I left off right after Lucifer had created his own reality in the Void? Volume 2?

Good read, I kept this and some other cool image bits for myself, artwork is good if a little inconsistent in some places, but that's to be expected in these kind of books.

Not a big week for me.

I hope Ghost Stories of an Antiquary isn't shit. MR James might be my favourite author of all time, and is definitely my favourite horror author.

That said, one of the stories in it are Lost Hearts, his most overrated work. On the otherhand it has Canon Alberic's Scrap-Book, one of the most underrated, so swings and roundabouts.

Hope Oh, Whistle And I'll Come To You, My Lad and A Warning to the Curious make it into a later volume.

Might post shelves later, I'm mainly just into alternative/"art"/underground stuff. Deep Girl is a collection of Ariel Bordeaux's first mini's, she went on to do No Love Lost for D & Q then did a comic anthology called Raisin Pie with her husband, Rick Altergott, creator of Doofus. The drawing in Deep Girl is ROUGH as SHIT but by No Love Lost she learned to draw much better and Raisin Pie has some nice art by her too. The actual STORIES in Deep Girl are cool, though, like a much more angry and insecure Julie Doucet, I reckon....
>>87251117
I haven't read it yet Anon. I just really like Tommasso's stuff, his comic The Horror of Collier County (for Dark Horse Mavericks) is well worth seeking out, it's being collected , too. And 8 and a 1/2 Ghosts that he did for (the first iteration of) Alternative Comics is really good, funny, reminds me of a mash-up of Sammy Harkham's current Blood of the Virgin storyline, Seth-style drawing and schlocky horror...relly recommended.

Btw I have I think 1, 3 and 4 f Raisin Pie, I thought her main story in that was really good, with the librarian or something, as I remember? Or it was partly set in a library? Hhm gonna hafta go check...but No Love Lost is well worth tracking down, it's only a short read, maybe 50 or 60 pages, small squarebound "graphic novel". From about '95/'96, I think.
>>
>>87252856
Oh, what's that like? He posted quite a lot of process photos on his FB page...oh, I also really liked his comic Miriam which I THINK was unfinished but apparently there's a collection available. Haven't read a whole lot of his "genre" stuff but I think he's a great cartoonist whatever part of the medium he's working on. He's kinda done a David Mazzucchelli in reverse!

A new Piskor comic would be dope. Thanks for that /co/mrade.
>>
>>87253066
>Oh, what's that like?
It's a crime comic with two main plots. One is about a mafia hitman stumbling upon a pair of dead bodies and along with his ex-girlfriend, who is also a hitman, try to figure out who the killers are. The other plot is about the killers, a bunch of orphan girls whose families were killed by the mob.

UXM 3 and FF 2 ended up being for free. They went missing in in July. Asked for refund. Showed up out of the blue last week.

Captain America omnibus for $350 + shipping. Nobody else bid on the item so got it for seller's starting bid.

The rest, pretty close to MSRP. No discount since I bought them locally, but they had 5/6 volumes of Popeye in stock. Volume 5 is pretty rare. Used copies are going listed for $650 on amazon. White Indian is expensive as well.

>>
>>87284254
Did you have a chance to read Secret path? Thoughts?
>>
>>87285089

Sure. They're gonna be brief though.

Dahmer - fantastic. Such a crazy insight into a world we wouldn't know much about aside from Backderf's retelling. Can't wait for the movie.

Black Hole - Obviously good. A classic. Perhaps not everyones cup of tea but I do believe everyone should read it.

Fade Out - Good, as to be expected. Not as good as Fatale in my opinion but I love the setting, and the writing and art is on point as usual with these two.

Moebius - Didn't read yet, as you can see its still shrink wrapped. I can tell you I'm not near as big of a Moebius fan as some people are.

Secret Path (>>87285150) - Good as well. There is LITERALLY one line of dialogue in the whole thing. But I'm a sucker for Lemire's art (not so much his writing anymore, I love Black Hammer currently though and Descender's not bad). Gord Downie's portion has not been redeemed yet so I can't comment on the quality of the album.

Hopefully this is indicative of better shipping from BN these days. Seven more of the boxes will arrive by this evening according to the tracking information, so we'll know soon I guess

When other stores have them, so black Friday, Christmas, Halloween etc.

some websites have them randomly, so you can alway quickly pop by the regular one like Instocktrades.

It's not Image, it's the creators. They can choose the format of their collections. There is a standard format that's the cheapest, but they can choose to pay more on production to change things.
>>
>>87325356
if you are from europe, check out cheap-comics.com
they have a pretty nifty sale going right now for european standards but I don't know how long that'll last. I'm kinda tight on money this upcoming month so I can't even buy shit myself.

if you're into silver age stuff you should definitely take a look at your favorite DC archive editions or Marvel Master Works (you'll probably have to search for "MMW") since they're pretty cheap right now. you might get some of the archives for as low as €12.99, which is simply unbeatable.
and at a certain order value they drop another big comic (you can only choose from a shitty list though as far as I remember) into the order for free.

Dear fuck I hope it'll last till December, don't want to take a fucking loan just for comics.
>>
>>87322268

>>
>>87321252

>>
>>87325356
hamiltonbook.com also sells a bunch of random graphic novels for super cheap. Their selection is hit or miss, (like only stocking Vol 2 an Vol 5 of a series), but their shipping is cheap and the books I ordered were in great condition.
>>
>>87330298
Wish there was something like those sites in Europe.
you can occasionally get insane deals with european comics in localized versions like there's some german comic shop for example that sells complete sets of thorgal, asterix and whatnot for bargain prices, I've put my eye on the complete Johan and Peewit runs they offer.
but sadly you can hardly strike a bargain when it comes to american super hero comics here, that's why I really hope cheap-comics' sale will keep until december.

Mowgli's Mirror is one of the most beautiful comics I've ever read.
Some of that John G. Miller stuff is pretty cool, he's British (or Scottish), isn't he? Involved with the post Ed Pinsent small-press scene? Kinda reminds me drawing-wise a bit of John Bagnall's style, another amazing Brit small press cartoonist (who has a new book out soon, his collection Don't Tread On My Rosaries is brilliant and you can get a good copy for under a quid on Amazon). Kind of thick, almost wood-cutty feel.
Nice Deforge stash, I have all that stuff except the Lose collection (I have #1, too)--I got Big Kids and thought it was one of the worst comics I've read all year. Fuck it, ten years. Really disappointing.

It's called a luxury, something a person who lives paycheck to paycheck (i.e. you) wouldn't understand.
>>
>>87348704
if you like to carry your comics around they are much more hardy. And the covers don't get curved if you read them lots.

but mostly it's a collector thing. With novels I prefer softcover cause they are easier to handle, but comics are the same size so I prefer hardcovers. Not going to pay much extra for that though
>>
>>87348704
Easier to store, manage, take care of.
>>
>>87348704
They last longer, less wear from reading, dust jacket means the actual book is more protected, covers don't bend on repeated readings, generally more issues per volume, so fewer books to collect (Much easier to track down 6 Hellboy Library editions than 12+ trades, for example), better binding so the book doesn't fall apart as you're reading it, easier to read (though this is preference sometimes), retain value better if you HAVE to sell thanks to a catastrophic accident, and yes, they do look better.
>>
>>87349307
>They last longer, less wear from reading

Not really, just stop being a retard and learn how to handle a book. Or stop having baby hands either way most trade bindings are the exact same as their HC counterpart. Not including absolutes and most omnibuses obviously.
>>
>>87349536
I don't want to handle my comics with latex gloves, even casual reading and not being a gorilla with comics will lead to the covers having a curve in them
>>
>>87349830
So you do have baby hands. Like what you like anon but I prefer my softcovers. I also think they look better on a shelf because there's no thick cardboard taking up useful space and the spines are busier and more interesting.
>>
>>87350042
that's fine, but I like to take reading material with me for bus rides and what not. In my bag hardcovers are sturdier, but really it's not that big an issue
>>
>>87350151
>but I like to take reading material with me for bus rides and what not.

That's 100% understandable then. Mine never leave the shelf unless reading so my situation is a little different.
>>
>>87345878
>>87346344

Well thats a nice collection of shitty books you have there anon.. whats that fantasy series, I assume its what equates to erotic fanfiction for neckbeards.
>>
>>87350429
lol what an asshole. How bald, ugly, depressed and fat are you to act that way?

What's next on your buy list?

on a sidenote, why not make a custom made "dustcover"? I use those for some of my books (novels) because I have the same problem with travelling around and a lot of books are only available as trades and using stuff like gift-wrapping paper or baking parchment is pretty thick and protects the books. you basically just wrap it around as if it was a dustcover, cut off everything you don't need and use removable sticky tape (not too sticky!) on the insides. haven't had a nick or dent in my trade books in years
pic related. yeah it looks like shit from the outside but who cares?
inb4
>but there's a nick and a dent!
I bought it used, can't help it. FR can be an expensive hobby if you have almost all the books and collect comics, too.
>>
>>87350668
It's fucking lame and vain but I like everyone being able to see what I'm reading. Sometimes people strike up a conversation when they see you reading something they like but some of it is stupid vanity...

inside view. if you are smart (like I CLEARLY am) then the tape doesn't even touch the book. tape comes off pretty easily from baking parchment.

Toss-up between X-Statix and 52 Omni
>>
>>87350742
do you read your HCs with their dustcovers still wrapped around on the bus then? most HCs with their dust cover removed are just plain black or something with the logo/name of the book and that's it. not much different, really.
also trades are usually the same format all over so you can easily re-use the custom made dustcover or make one for the occasion.

I found all 4 volumes at my old fave LCS a while back, and recently checked and they're still there. Just gotta drive 2 hours to get them.

Oh shit..... if you've got the money call and see if theyll hold them for you so some assclown doesnt wander in and buy like, vol3 or some shit.

I have the Flash New 52 omnibus preordered and that comes out in a few weeks
Deadpool by Posehn & Duggan Omnibus
The Wicked & Divine Vol 4
>>
>>87353809
The OCHs are only $5 cheaper, to me that's worth it. Plus when it releases on IST at half off, the omni will be slightly cheaper, comparatively.
>>
>>87350598

Probably 52 v2 of the new printing, I don't get a chance to buy many actual books because i still pick up floppies every week, i gotta get out of that.
>>
>>87350598
more Legion of Super-Heroes.
Basically just the Archives left now and Legion Lost. After that it's picking up stuff where the Legion prominently shows up. Will probably focus on New Krypton then.
>>
>>87337954
I read up to issue 20 or so from 52, along with gl corps and red lanterns and gl new guardians. I mean I am not total noob with GL., I have some TPB I have read, but I am also not the guy to go to when it comes to GL
>>
>>87350598
I've got to focus more on completing more series before starting new ones. I need some Complete Peanuts, Barks & Rosa Ducks, Gundam Origin, Goodnight Punpun, and Goon Libraries.
>>
>>87345993
I like archie too but.. why?
You read one digest you read them all
>>
>>87349176
>>87349249
harder to actually read.
do you guys seriously sit on the couch with an omnibus in your lap? that thing is like 10 lbs and cumbersome to read.

Comic fans get tpbs
Comic collectors get omni
there is a difference
>>
>>87354957
If they are made well they are easy to open and read. No, they aren't the type you can lay back and hold up and read but you find other ways. If you are in bed you can just have them lay open next to you, prop yourself up on pillows and have a comfy read.

I read a lot in a bath and that is a big drawback of these things, cause they can get moisture damage too. So I just stick to novels or floppies there
>>
>>87354957
>do you guys seriously sit on the couch with an omnibus in your lap?
Did this with my Goon Library Edition earlier
>>
>>87354957
Not even the biggest ones are 10 pounds and it's not that bad. Just put a pillow on your lap or something.
>>
>>87354957
>do you guys seriously sit on the couch with an omnibus in your lap?
Yeah I was just doing that lol.

I also read them when I'm lying on my bed
>>
>>87354957
I find they just take a bit of maneuvering to find comfortable positions but I read 52 in a couple days sitting back in a chair with it on top of a pillow in my lap

>>

I spread it over my thighs so the weight is distributed over a large area. Of course to properly read it like this requires a fuckton of pillows to keep upright.
