>They understand each other after a brutal fight and become bros
Is this anime?
>>87223439
I fucking love that trope
>>87223439
You know, these were white when I bought 'em.
>>87223439
I know this shit. Stop it.
Tropes Thread #26741-A?
Count me in.
>protag and antag are about to have their final confrontation
>they save it for the right time even fucking scheduling where and when they're going to fight instead of doing it on the spot
Love this shit.
>opens up closet
>all the same clothes
>The amount of backstabbings requires a fucking chart to remember who betrayed who
>Character gets replaced with a similar one
>MC and love interest grew more onto each other each episode and setting up as a true ship.>MC ended up with a Different Love interest at the end of the series.
>>87223439
This particular trope is quite an entertaining piece of melodrama, but I think the frequency of its use is mainly due to American's not liking the idea of two men just being friends. If two guys like each other, they're probably gay, so let's show them in a violent, sweaty struggle to show how manly they are.
God bless America.
>>87223850
>Yes
>>87223850
not /co/ but god damn it Lavitz why you gotta die like that
>>87223709
>All the dudes wear the same shit
>The only girl of the team wears something new each episode
>>87223884
Honestly, you see this trope more in anime than in western stuff.
>>87223439
>They dig each other after a violent, bloody fight and become hoes
>Lesbian makeouts intermixed with a beatdown
>>87223643
I loved it when HxH did this.
>Netero and Gramps were rearing to shank meruem's ass on the spot
>Barge in, he's holding his waifu
>Villain gently puts her down and calmly walks between them
>"Let's fight somewhere safe, okay?"
It just amped up the hype factor.
>the villain is just a good man fucked by the hand of fate
>>87227172
You do see it a lot in anime, be it Shonen or magical girl series. (Most precure or Sailor moon villains are befriended after being beat savagely within an inch of their life)
>Villain gets redeemed
>>87227230
>The villain is a reoccuring one that's threatening at first
>After the first time the heroes beat them they sorta become less and less threatening
>Eventually they're somewhat a joke a villain, even joining the heroes frequently or hanging out with them
>"But uh oh no! Don't you get safe I'm still gonna conquer you one of these days!"
>Right right, they still have to keep an eye out for them but not really, barely a threat
The only two instances where they did this lame was withPeridot and IceKing.
>>87227230
>Episode shows a creepy dude targeting a beautiful woman, said beautiful woman pleads to the heros
>Creepy dude MUST be evil!
>Creepy dude is actually good guy and beautiful woman is evil
>>87227324
I'll agree with the former, but not the latter. I think the latter handled it well for a really long time, and it's not that they eventually screwed up that aspect of the character, it's just all the other crap surrounding it started to cave in.
>>87227314
>Villain chooses to redeem themselves
>It ends in their death/sacrifice, Lord Genome style
>The heroes actually mourn and respect the villain now
b8s my heart I swear
>>87223866
Fucking Digimon. I'll never not be mad about that.
>>87227357
Basically agreed.
But it really sort of went downhill when they replaced the crown with like a mechanical one and went inside it or something.
Until that point it was alright.
>the villain uses their dying breath to warn of something even stronger that even they fear
>Someone shows true bravery. They do what needs to be done against all odds. They run for the button, or try to fight the big bad, or whatever.
>They fucking die IMMEDIATELY
>Villain was actually on MC's side the whole time
>MC's friend was actually working for the true villain
>>87223439
They fight and they fall in loveAt least one of them does
>>87227361
>>87227314
I love it when
>A villain actually has deeper ideals and pride, moreso than the bigger big bad they serve whose a powerhungry jackass
>Finds out said ultimate villain doesn't give a shit at all, destroying their ideology
>"YOU BETRAYED ME! WE WERE GOING TO DO X TOGETHER!"
>"No we weren't you're just a sap"
>"I'll kill you!"
Usually it's best when they try to fight superior bad next but get curbstomped immediately.
Bonus points of the heroes witness it.
>Villain never instigated any fights- he just shows up and the hero kicks his shit in before he can even really do anything
>They speak a different language to he can't explain he's not even trying to fucking fight him in the first place
>>87227411
This is cold as fuck but it can be such a good way to build hype. Especially if it's a real character dying and not some redshirt fodder scrub.
>>87227314
>Fight between undervillain, true villain, and hero on the roof
>Undervillain drags himself and the true villain off the roof to save the hero
>"If only we met sooner, we could have been friends"
>>87223643
>I can give you a ride if you-
>I will find it!
>>87227450
Does this actually happen anywhere?
I like it but it's basically reverse-One Punch man with Saitama as the villain.
>Villain pulls out a gun after being defeated by heroes
>Knows he can't kill the heroes so he just commits suicide than giving up
>>87227375
It was never there, the dub forced something that wasn't in the origianl.
>>87227314
>Villain joins the heroes
>He fights for good but in the same way he used to when he was evil
>Usually gets called out by the heroes for being too brutal
>However, he will deal with the dirtier stuff heroes don´t want to get their hands dirty with (murder, interrogations, torture, etc)
>>87227314
>former villain shows up out of nowhere to save the hero from the new villain and kicks their ass
>"Didn't I tell you last time? I'm the one who's going to defeat you."
>>87227229
The Gon/Hisoka thing was awesome too.
>Villain cares for bodyguard/henchmen
>fucks them
>>87227481
>Hero and villain know each other too well
>I Knew you would do 'Y' So I did 'X'! You FOOL!
>No I knew you did 'X' SO I did 'Z'! HAH!
>Wise old mentor character
>They tell the MC they have to confront their former student gone bad
>He has to be stopped!
>Attempt to do it dutifully
>Gets wrekt#
>MC witnesses it
It's old as crap, going all the way back to Starwars and whatnot.
>>87223439
Man, I've never understood that trope. I'm usually bitter as fuck after I fight people.
>>87227699
Jack vs Aku was such a great episode.
> it's a tournament arc.
>big bads group is up next against no names that are pretty tough.
>big bads wipe the floor with them like its nothing.
>>87227324
>Reoccuring villain essentially becomes a joke
>Something changes radically for them
>Maybe after new, more threatening villains appear and are defeated
>Old joke villain returns, now a legitimate threat or actually terrifying
>>87227600
>yfw they're referring to the new villain and not the hero
>>87227755

>>87227544
>We switch over to the POV of the villains sometimes

I've completely lost this conversation, because Ludo is the stupid word /v/ uses for good games, just like /tv/ uses Kino.
For the sake of my mental health I'm going to assume the Ludo you're talking about is a just a good comic or whatever.
>>87227813
I am loving Ludo so much this season. While Toffee was unnerving, Ludo is just so much more unstable and is packing so much heat that even if he´s still kind of a joke he comes off as pretty scary.
>Bad guy is hired to spy on the MC
>Bad guy actually regrets being a spy as he actually becomes good friends with the MC
>>87227769
>Villainous badguy is actually super powerful evil genius smiler type
>Just asks like a pantsy around the good guys with his hands shrugging up
>Lets them beat the shit out of them and laughs, always goes easy on everyone
>People shit their pants when they learn his powerlevel is how high?
>Doesn't care, just wants to mess with everyone
>>87227821
Yeah I figured but I couldn't think of any good examples. Although I'm sure Mythology has plenty.
>>87227848
>Numale
/tv/ why you saying this? It's such a dumb word and makes you sound like a faggot.
Are you too good to just call someone a sissy or a girly faggot anymore? Numale sounds like some African breed of pygmy or something.
>The MC's party is storming the villains base.
>As they make their way though the base the villains generals confront them one at a time.
>each time a member of the party stays behind to fight the villains general so everyone else can move on.
>ends with the MC fighting the main villain 1 on 1.
>>87227856
Ludo was the villain from the first Season of Star vs The Forces of Evil.
He was the usual easily beatable joke villain to keep the action going while the main character goes on about their lives.
However, tired of always losing he hired a new character called Toffee, who turned out to be a pretty serious villain who took over Ludo's operation, kicked him out of his castle and went against the heroine.
And he kinda won. Ludo however ended up in the wild and had to learn to sustain himself on his own. And he fucking did, getting sidekicks and starting a new operation from scratch, one that could actually be a menace to the main characters and their homes.
He now has one half of the object he had spent the entire past season going after, and he´s using it pretty well. Not only that, he´s trying to learn to use it correctly.
He´s gone from a manchild throwing temper tantrums like a baby to a psychotic manchild with enough power not only to kill you, but also to make it painful. He´s also hearing voices who dictate him how to act.
>>87227856
Star vs the forces of evil
Disney XD show
Not much a coherent plot, but he just is Pilaf from DB essentially
Someone slowly overthrows him (and everyone has a boner for that guy)
Ludo lost everything, and is a worthless fuck before that
Winds up getting thrown in another demension after seeing his castle obliterated
Some how gets so fucking Alpha that he made monster spider and a Hawk his bitch that he orders on command and finds a "wand" and actually had the practically invinsible "wacky" protag at gun point
>>87227856
>because Ludo is the stupid word /v/ uses for good games, just like /tv/ uses Kino.

>side character gives antagonist a run for their money
>>87228281
Since the past couple weeks. If people weren't so obsessed with complaining about the Switch, and about their console-tans, then they'd have noticed this shitty meme picking up steam.
>>87223439
I love the spin FMA put on this trope.

>Not really trusted but they sort of let them spy and hang with them from time to time
>Even offering them tips
>They always scram out when the 'real villains' appear
>>87228535
Because I will never forget. Still hurts to this day, man
>But you can have 'cooler' albert
no fuck you, give him back
>New villain shows up
>Enters with a band by easily beating most of the main characters
>Along the course of the series the heroes become stronger but cannot beat the villain in a physical confrontation
>Eventually they can make him back down if they team up together
>Then it takes smaller groups to be a match for him
>Eventually one of the heroes can match the villain in a one on one battle
>Villain is secretly proud of this.
>Almighty observer
>He will offer the heroes advice once in a while
>He might even give advice to the villains too
>He´s so strong it would take the combined efforts of both the villains and the heroes to beat him
>He just minds his own business most of the time and doesn´t do shit
>Either because he´s optimistic and hopes the rest of characters figure out things on their own
>Because he´s pessimistic and believes that in the long run his interventions will be pointless
>Or because he just doesn´t care since nothing affects him directly.

>Would probably be friends in any other circumstance, but the villain has a goal he has been dedicating his entire life to achieve
>Finally, the villain is given the choice to choose between his "friend" and his ambition
>Hero pleads him to stop

>Main Villain is routinely defeated by the protagonist(s), occasionally spilling over to the point of friendly banter

naruto ruined this trope
> Hero fights against big bad
> Works with another shady guy
> Guy is clearly villainous himself, but hero tolerates him to take down what he sees as the bigger threat
> Finally takes down 'big bad'
> The guy the hero allied with is suddenly much more aggressive, horrifying, powerful than the 'big bad' ever was
> Hero realizes the big bad was the only one keeping this guy in check
> He's basically unleashed a monster that he can't stop in pursuit of his goal
>>87239843
It's amazing how well balanced that sequence was. We never got super edge lord like Leto, the character stayed consistent with his previous BTAS appearances but clearly went further than before. It felt like a natural progression in Joker's investment in tormenting and breaking Batman. Then again it probably benefits from more screentime over the course of the series than most portrayals of Joker get.
>>87227314
>The villain actually gets resolution to the issues that drove them into villainy and now emotionally whole they become a hero
>>87239937
The thing is, Joker in that series only came across as light-hearted because Batman was always able to stop him before he did something truly horrific. There's always this tension because all it takes is Batman slipping up and the Joker getting over on him just one time for things to get awfully dark awfully quick.

>mighty hero of legend who could beat the big bad with their pinky finger if they wanted
>but he's too old/retired/bored of fighting/decided to pursue a career in floristics instead
>heroes try to persuade him into helping, he refuses
>still appears at a vital moment of the final confrontation to fight for the future
