To be fair, Van posted at somewhere like 3am EST, due to some DA update stuff. Yeah, we're still hosted on DA while we got the site sorted out.

man, if you're interested, i'd say just go to DA and click to the oldest part of the gallery and step forward from there. There's a lot of good material, character designs, extra art, etc. You don't even need to think of it as a story necessarily, but more as polished brainstorming and gestures on a set of characters that from time to time form extended arcs.

Then whenever the site comes up, you'll be on the same page as the older readers in terms of history.

As much of a good thing as this could be, I can't help but feel uneasy about it.
A relaunch means the characters have to be completely reset meaning we'll have to sit through everyone meeting each other again, developing relationships again.
All kinds of shit we've already seen before.
Also, Andy looks like he did before the relaunch so he isn't younger which means they won't have years to develop which is bad news imo.
I'm deeply worried that I'm going to hate this.

I appreciate your anxieties. They're not unfounded, and its something that I, as a fan first, have grappled with during this process. We're going to do our best, and I believe we can hit the mark.

One advantage here is that some of the 'beginning' is things that never really were covered in the original. Andy and Gogo simply knew each other without any real establishment as to how it happened. This is what we're going to be covering first.

As for Andy's appearance, I don't disagree, I'll need to tell Van to be more mindful of it.

Reboots are a cop-out and a scourge upon storytelling in this day and age. Why bother to think about where to go with a story when you can just wipe it out and start over? Screw creativity. There was a point in the discussion process where I proposed that rather than do a reboot, we instead do a prequel arc. Basically much of the same content that we ended up deciding on anyway. How Gogo and Andy met, etc, at the end of which we'd link it back to the story that existed before hand.

There were two problems that we ran into. The first is that we wanted to do some things differently. Didi, for instance, was originally just a spur of the moment thing that Van did as a gag, but ended up enduring because of the way it played out. If this was the only thing, then yeah, we maybe could have gotten away with some retcons and just done the plan I described above.

But then there's the second issue, which is the wider story that we wanted to tell. Or perhaps, more accurately, the story that surrounds the characters. The characters have been around long enough that they could comfortably carry themselves in slice of life shenanigans pretty much indefinitely, but from nearly the very beginning, there have been hints of large scale stuff, probably best summarized by the question of 'Who/what is Gogo?' We have answers for that now, but further retcons would be required for everything to smoothly fit.

So that's why the reboot. The DA incarnation of Bomango was a proving ground, and during that time there have been ideas that don't really jive with the plot and characters as they exist in the present, so a clean break was judged to be the best way to tell stories about Gogo and co in the way we want. It wasn't a decision taken lightly, and the DA gallery isn't going to disappear (in fact, I've slowly been working on putting it all together into a PDF edition for ease of reading).

If you had faith in what we were doing before, I hope you'll give us an opportunity in the present.
