The text is explicit that she was a lesbian before she went to college. Becky is a massive missed opportunity. You could use her as a parallel to Joyce's character arc but her character feels very final and we never see things from her perspective. Nah, College Town, USA's problem is that, subjective issues aside, it has one overriding flaw: tonal inconsistency. Take his parody of Joyce getting roofied at a party. It's setup as this wacky, hijink humor type thing but all that happens is his Joyce analogue gets raped. It's not even black humor, it's just a rape. It and the next few strips are more or less straight drama then back to the wacky hijinks. While that could be an effective critique of Willis' writing habits, as written Dewd ultimately leaves the reader feeling confused and unfulfilled by the story.
