The art was the best in the series thus far, and it had some pretty decent character arcs. I have a bad feeling that because of the presence of Zarei in his work, he's gonna get hit on with zealous picketing and opportunistic news reporters. Considering that this is the same guy who had been blocking people for mocking his wrist injuries (at least what I heard here), the emotional toll on him might be hard.

Not that I care about this comic so much anymore (I'm kinda finding my real self beyond being a shut-in to the Interwebs), but I kinda pity what unfortunate consequences that will befall him...all because he did his research poorly. Yeah, Zarei is kind of a glaring reminder of the kinda of research he's done.

You'd thought that Zack would've played safer with the story-making considering PNAT is his first popular work....even Noelle Stevenson's NIMONA was a way more enjoyable read despite its limited arcs and simplistic Quentin Blake-ish art style, IMO.

The probem with adding new characters to a webcomic (or anything really) for diversity's sake is that
>you need to add a lot of different type of people (black, asian, muslim, crippled, women, fat, etc.) to make sjw forget that your main cast is mostly white males

That's why Sarei is a gay muslim woman and Day is a fat blind black gay woman. There weren't enough black people in the comic, no muslim and not enough women (NEVER enough women) to satisfy equalists. So Zack, like many other "socially conscious" artists, tried to please everyone without turning Max into a fat blind black girl (cause the shippers would cry), because you can't add 10 unplanned characters without fucking upp your story.
Meanwhile, professionnal artists, already aware of the potetial clusterfuck of being non inclusive, know that you need to make your main character a white guy, with his love interest being a white/asian girl, and adding a black sidekick and an asian sidekick to play the nerd of the group. That's like pop culture diversity 101.

But there is, no one complained about Isabelle or Zarei when they were introduced. People started to make a fuss when the art and pacing went to shit and Zack started to not only introduce gays but in a forced or lazy way (Zarei, Cody) which just comes off as doing it for brownie points.

I draw my own comics, and one of my protagonists is gay. VERY gay. Not a stereotype, but the fact that they're homosexual is hard to miss. I don't begrudge homosexual characters in fiction, subtle or extravagant. I find Zack's pandering insulting because it's so objective-oriented. These characters are not homosexual because it's an aspect of their character: they are screaming "BOY WE SURE ARE QUEER" from the fucking rooftops for audience approval.

Aside from the great art and story and worldbuilding and characters, Ashley consistently updates it 3 times a week (unless she's on hiatus, which is much better than artists like Zach whose breaks are seemingly random) and she's willing to drop multiple pages at a time when she thinks the story deserves it.

It's so clear that he doesn't want to write Paranatural anymore, and that he's trying to turn it into a different comic that will satisfy his young adult needs.
I mean, this has been obvious for ages, this is jsut confirmation. The person who made early Paranatural and the current Zack are different people. The comic progressed so slowly that he grew up and became a different person. It sucks, but it's what happened. Paranatural is irredeemable, and it will keep becoming more and more shit until Zack finally burns out and drops it.

Zack already introduced 3 gay characters before Zarei, for no goddamn reason. Also, her being gay is completely irrelevant to the plot; they might as well just have a normal talk. The only purpose that reveal serve is to make a joke, and not even a good one.

Honestly, as already said in >>87228968 the only thing this accomplishes is to make the comic less "kid friendly", which is a shame as if he used another means for this reveal it could work well even considering this kind of audience. I'm not saying it's a kid's webcomic, but let's just say it is something you would think of showing your little brother, and if he keeps talking about gay shit that way, this might change.

It felt like he was coming up with stuff as things progressed. Random spurts of creativity where he probably thought "wouldn't this be interesting!" So he did it, the thing, rejuvenating his passion for creating the story, though perhaps not considering how to actually wrap it up. And then when it came to actually progressing things, well that long list of cool stuff needing its resolution has now become a daunting slog of a task.

Really, it's felt like he's wanted to quit making this comic for a long time now. I'd really rather he just write it out at this point, even if it's just a general overview of what was supposed to happen, and not what it's evolving to now.

He's not the guy he used to be, he doesn't even hang out with the same people that he was good friends with once upon time before falling into that Twitter hole. From what I remember, he even went as far as writing them off for being too problematic.

Plenty of religious people have quirks they're not proud of (or think their community would frown upon). Gay christians. Arabs with fetishes. It's not uncommon. Saudi Arabia has a gay underground (since SA has no rights for gays).

No. I am intentionally being exagerated. Sadly, all the content of that post has been espoused by [Z/H]ack himself. I've been hear quite awhile. There are 30 or so anons who've been here longer. Zack has made these assertions. He's spoken about that test (I can't remember the name of it) and how important he thinks it is. He's spoken about 'living by his principles' and how terrible it is that people from 4chan can stomach his comic (ironically showing more tolerance by putting up with his pandering bullshit than his pandering bullshit itself) and so on.

Zack is an absolute case now. Change in his character aside his ability to write dialogue, construct a satisfying serial narrative and (the biggest crime of all) to colour and draw have all gone down the shitter. Reading his new stuff is depressing given how good his old stuff was. It was raw, sure, but there was life to it. Now it's gradients, flashy colouring, meme faces and pandering.
