This comic is an anomaly to me not because it's obviously a SU/Homestuck rip-off but with fan fic levels of writing, but the fact that this was co-made by an actual crew member of SU.

How the fuck did someone so amateurish get a storyboard revisionist job? How the fuck are they even in the industry when they seem to have the mentality and story capabilities of a 16-year old girl? How does anyone who even works at a well-known studio think this is an acceptable web comic to push out? Like, is she literally blind, can she not see how maybe ripping off SU visually verbatim would be a terrible idea or that the writing is trash?

Often times getting a revisionist job means you're being prepped for storyboarding itself. But even then, just getting the job often takes some level of work either in practicing art or making connections. The only way I can see her getting the job is that she was friends with one of the main SU crew who just handed her the job with next to no effort. Which is probably what happened and is kind of shitty because that means Sugar doesn't give two shits about quality control as long as the people working for her really, really love her show.

Vitiligo is so shitty for designs too. At least the heterochromia phase was kind of subtle since it was just eye colors. Not to say people with vitiligo are necessarily ugly, but when it comes to drawings it almost always looks like absolute shit since a)it just generally interferes with the design and adds more random visual clutter and b)99% of artists have no fucking idea how to actually draw it as a pattern on the skin as opposed to random-ass blotches on a 2-d surface.

Because it's not actually THAT difficult to get this kind of job. It's not like storyboarding for Disney/pixar etc., the qualifications for working on a TV cartoon aren't that high.

The whole vitiligo craze reminds me of Sleepycast's discussion about how treating conventionally unattractive people like they're Marilyn Monroe is like a form of indirect backhanded mockery. I get the intention but it comes off as try hard and hamfisted no matter how it's handled.

I got some really cool job offers from CN/others simply by posting stuff on twitter/tumblr. Wasn't worth much though since I'm not American.
Getting noticed through social media is tricky though, I say you should try applying through their website with a good enough portfolio. Check out other storyboarders' portfolios and social media accounts to see what's the required skill level and what you should focus on artistically. Of course you should have some storyboards in your portfolio, but for other types of art you put there "storytelling" is the key word. No static boring stuff or heavily rendered character portraits but stuff that feels light and quick and have a sense of story and movement. 2D animation clips might also help if you have any.
