Why hasnt it gotten a cartoon series yet?
>>
>>87178705
because that episode and those designs were so monumentally unpopular they couldn't even get a toyline to sell

if you mean the show in general, because the BBC doesn't really do in-house animation and for a long time the rights were an utter clusterfuck
>>
>>87178705
Well they animated the missing portions from Power of the Daleks. Also there have been some cgi animated movies but they looked pretty terrible.
>>
>>87178763
>>87178772
Im talking about doctor who as a series. I mean even nelvanna almost made a series that looked like an even better version of droids. Also, why werent they popular, they were just gonna be the bronze daleks bosses.
>>
>>87178705
It had a couple of animated serials and specials.
The Infinite Quest
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1it6nv8QTU
Dreamland
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JpAuRqhTqkc
and then there was the revival that wasn't to be
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jV7Vwqy-vb0

None of which have particularly good animation. You'd think the BBC would try a little harder with one of their flagship programs.
>>
>>87179127
Screams of Shalka at least had the excuse of being an anniversary special made during the period where the show was still dead.

It's really a shame that even now, the animated reconstructions for the lost episodes are still just about as mediocre, but it's better than audio-only or nothing I guess.
>>
>>87178763
I haven't seen the show in years so I don't even remember the episode or the context or why the designs changed.
>>
>>87180882
Daleks got pure dalek dna from a frabrege egg and wanted to purify themselves because they were leftover from dalek human hybrids

What would be the point?

Reminder that, back around 2008, Titmouse pitched to BBC an offer to animate all the missing episodes for a price they could afford, but BBC still said no.

Related, their proof of concept was this full reconstruction of Mission to the Unknown:

>>87178705

Why have a cartoon for a live action show that's so damn long, filled with content and easier to make? If a cartoon were made it would probably be ignored as something for kids/lame.
>>
>>87178705

The Magic School Bus already exists.
>>
>>87184162
There's no real demand for those episodes.

>>87180882
The gold toys stopped selling so they made some new ones. They sold even worse.

>>87178884
Daleks in particular are jointly owned by the estate of Terry Nation (their creator) and the BBC, with subsidiary rights let out by agreement of both parties but in practice the work being arranged by the BBC with approval from the Nation estate.

Nation often tried to market the Daleks independently (as he was entitled to do) but was largely unsuccessful. Even in concert with the BBC, he only managed to sell the rights to "Doctor Who and the Daleks" and options on three other stories to Amicus for £500 in 1965 (about £8700 today) as compared to the £180,000 budget the film had. This was at the height of the "Dalekmania" period, when the merchandise was selling itself.

I don't know why the Skittles weren't popular, maybe it's because they look shitty and everybody was sick of daleks by then. They're supposed to hark back to the Mark II designs and onward, but they just seem like creepy giant toys.

As far as any possible animated series goes, they probably didn't see the point. The show itself has done OK depicting different time periods and fantasy locations, as have the spinoffs (even if the entire universe does tend to look like various parts of Wales now), so why go for an animation? It's already kid-friendly, and the cast are fairly expendable.

Yeah, even though I liked the show when I was younger, for the most part it's pretty bad.
>>
>>87178884
>Im talking about doctor who as a series

Because it still has a popular live action show and live action is more profitable. Most parents will watch Doctor Who with their kids but they wouldn't if it was a cartoon
>>
>>87178705
Because its a show who's fanbase is more cancerous than anything /a/ or /co/ has
>>
>>87184493
I actually liked the idea of the Dalek castes being color coded, it fit their whole space nazzi/bee theme. Maybe a metallic coat over the bright colors?

I just want a Heavy metal esc movie of the dalek and cybermen fighting it out in space set to 80 prog rock. If the doctor shows up, I'd like it to be 3 or 4.

>>
>>87178705

Would have to be satirical. Family Guy-level. They kill everybody.

The image of the Daleks is so skewed because we normally only meet them a few minutes before the Doctor pwns them. In 99% of their appearances, which we never get to see, 'The Daleks arrive' is the next-to-last line of the script. The last one is "Having killed everybody, they leave again" - THE END.
>>
>>87188335

Daleks versus Cybermen. S'yeah. Daleks are superior to Cybermen in every respect but one.

Nah, Death's Head crossed universes, the universes didn't cross.

There ARE, however, at least four TF universes with Octus, a Transformer with a Dalek alt-mode.

although that's just a retcon from much later, wasn't it? In-story he was always said to be merely time-traveling.

It's a bit convoluted. Doctor Who Monthly (or Weekly at one time) was for quite some time the flagship publication of Marvel UK. It was a mixed media magazine with a short comic strip (initially done by Pat Mills, John Wagner and Dave Gibbons) and plenty of articles and features. Due to the success of DWM Marvel UK became more aggressive in making their own material rather than just reprint US material in chopped-up formats, which led to a bunch of really good comics such as the Captain Britain serials.

However, actual interactions between the Doctor and his supporting cast and the Marvel Universe were tangential at best. Only when Simon Furman became one of the writers on DWM (during the 7th Doctor period) did they make an unequivocal link in the strip where the Doctor encounters a (still Transformer-size) Death's Head, shrinks him and eventually drops him off on top of the Baxter Building. Furman has said in interviews that he didn't really have any big purpose behind this except to drop Death's Head off in a new universe where he could have new adventures. The impetus for that is that Death's Head is owned by Marvel, whereas the Transformers are pretty much all owned by Hasbro. Therefore Marvel UK wanted to transfer DH into a non-licensed comic where they could get better money from him. There were a couple more crossover issues, even as far forward as the Death's Head II era in the 90s, but largely at that point it was becoming clear that the Doctor Who universe and the MU were incompatible and separate, just as the Transformers Universe and MU were. So yes, retroactively the Doctor actually crossed into a whole different continuum to pick Death's Head up, then dropped him off in the Marvel Universe, then went back to his own universe. Bit of a mess really.

Of course there are Doctors-in-all-but-name in the Marvel Universe that have had distinct Doctor Who homage/parody/ripoff stories during the years.
>>
>>87184493
>There's no real demand for those episodes.
U wot m8? The fucking last appearance of the first doctor is among the missing episodes.
>>
>>87196791
Nah the first season was good thanks to some solid stories and Eccleston carrying the weaker ones. And some of Tennants stuff was alright when he wasn't chewing the scenery and trying to be a quirky fuck.

>>87196798
7th was good but I don't think he ever had a story as strong as Scherzo or Chimes of Midnight
>>

There's demand for the actual episodes, just not cheaply animated versions of them. The reconstructions so far have been pretty disappointing.
