Plus they fucked up the iconic ending moment by cutting out the flashlight part. How the fuck do you adapt a comic and cut out one of its most iconic and fiercely debated moments? Unrivaled incompetence.

The point is Bruce Timm has been a huge part of animated Batman for a while. Bruce and Babs fucking in the movie was handled in a way that is believable and not really inappropriate. Was it morally right for Bruce to fug his friend's daughter? No. But, was it morally right for Jim to cheat on his wife? It was heat of the moment, and he ended it after the first time.

I think Bruce Timm has been doing this long enough that if he wants to make changes to a character's relationship with another, it shouldn't really be that offensive. The Killing Joke itself was a huge change to Batman and Joker's relationship, and the Joker's origin. The Joker getting a girlfriend was a big change, but nobody is bothered by it.

As a fling, I think it's fine. Obviously as a pairing it wouldn't and shouldn't last, but Bruce ends up with other women anyways.

Barbara Gordon was created for the 60's TV show as a future love interest for Batman.
They later introduced her in the comics as a 25 year old independent and accomplished librarian that was bored out of her mind and completely infatuated with Batman.
Like in the TV show she was supposed to be a love interest for Batman. Dick Grayson at the time was still Robin and was portrayed as been too young for her, not that this stopped him from hitting on her, but he was like a creepy horny kid that felt jealous about Batman having a new partner and who also wanted to mess with her and show Batman and her she was just some dumb broad.

Later on Batgirl married some dude and became a congresswomen completely vanishing from the comics before coming back for an annual and later The Killing Joke. The Paris character isn't an OC either, he was her villain from said annual i just mentioned that was released to complement The Killing Joke as a sort of "Batgirl's last story before this Alan Moore's prestige comic" thing.

Dick and Babs would only be paired for good during the 90's thanks to the DCAU cartoons influence. In the cartoons both Dick and Babs were the same age and college friends.
The idea Timm and Dini had was that at some point Batman and Robin would fight over Batgirl and other things, with Robin leaving Batman and Batgirl behind. This would push Batman and Batgirl together and once Robin, nnow Nightwing came back Dick would learn that his adoptive father is fucking his ex-girlfriend and as a sort of revenge would he and Catwoman would hook up. So you'd have this weird love quadrangle. The Nightwing x Catwoman bit never happened, though.

Then thanks to the DCAU cartoons influence Chuck Dixon started to ship Dick and Babs in the comics as well, slowly retconning Babs age to be closer to Dick's, because at the time she was still 7 or 10 years older than him.
