Kubo should win on a technical level even if the story was a bit hackneyed but Zootopia will win which isn't the end of the world. Havn't seen the one with the turtle in it though

Nice music numbers, likeable characters. Did quite a lot with no real reference to go on.
I was expecting garbage and got very nicely surprised.

Yep. Disney pay their dues to the Academy, so they're allowed to send a copy of their film to the nomination board before its official release. This way they can advertise it as an "Oscar-nominated film" before it's even out in theaters.
