Outside of probable legal redtape that came from Disney buying the brand, I'm guessing either it was so bad they thought it would damage their product just when they were pushing for Episode VII, or they thought a wacky comedy version would also devalue the brand in the public's eyes when they were going for a serious new film.

The crux of the matter is that it wouldn't take any effort at all. It's all completely done, the whole first season. Animated and ready to go. They have scripts for further theoretical seasons that would need to get animated, but if they wanted to they could release the entire thing on DVD right now, but they won't. It's very strange.

Kathleen Kenndy (head honcho at Lucasfilm right now) explained a few years ago that with the new movies ramping up they didn't want a parody to be kids' 1st exposure to the brand.

They'll proabably release it all on Netflix at some point after E9.

Seth Green said on Twitter that they already completed production on something like 45 episodes but Disney won't let them release them yet

Pretty sure they're shorts, and it's all CGI, so I'm pretty sure it's only a fraction of the cost of an actual season of drawn/stop motion show.

So probably not much compared to what they hope to make by not releasing it now. Even a couple million dollars difference would make the decision worth it.

Seth McFarlane as Palpatine and Abraham Benrubi as Vader were the only thing I liked about that. The "annoyed/disappointed dad, screw-up son" dynamic they have was easily some of the best material from the Robot Chicken Star Wars material.
