Can't really blame him though. He didn't believe for a second Jerry would sign it after a life-time of harassment. When it came down to the wire he then pleaded and begged as a very last resort and it actually worked from a very reluctant Jerry.
He had that face on him like "You're probably lying about this bullshit too but fuck it, whatever. If it keeps you from trying to kill me for a while I'll sign it."

I never got people's surprise on this one. When I was little, I always thought >>87109466 was the 'last episode'. It so clearly shows tom getting his head cut off. The mood was so somber and realistic, not cartoonlike at all, so in my mind it was like a final 'dark turn' that 'ended' the series.
