No, she's a bad character. Objectively bad.

She's flat as a two-dimensional plane in euclidean space and is never challenged. Her intentional flaws are often ignored, and actual flaws are not intentional.

Hell, as the show progressed she somehow became more idealized. In the pilot she's a weird girl that nobody wants, in the flashback she's miss popularity.

Mabel is a great character

She might have been written shittily near the end (which I didn't see) but in my experience everyone was complaining about everything in the show.

I like Mabel because she's zany and hyperactive but not really one note. My favorite moment was her saving Dipper from Gideon.

The problem with Ford's apprenticeship is that it was a false dilemma because a simple phone call to their parents would've fixed the problem.

Mabel was a great character in season one, and pretty good in season two a. In two b she lost the plot and there wasn't enough room to make her low point to high point transition feel realistic; yeah she learned a lesson but it didn't feel earned like Dipper's school of hard knocks did.

She also, I think, spent too much time aloof from the main storyline and off doing her own thing. We had her get invested REAL early and I would've loved to have seen more straight up mystery twin episodes instead of Dipper solo and Mabel solo stuff, because they had a great dynamic.

Like in a way she was symbolic of a lot of people's issues with the god awful pacing of 2B and its unfortunate that a lot of her heavy shit went down there and it soured people here on a character that used to be pretty damn beloved.
