but seriously a month is a breakdown of a year which is one rotation around our sun. there a tons of planets and suns in the SW universe. has there ever been a canon breakdown of how time is measured?

seems like this guy would not have approved the term month and it slipped passed him. or maybe there is some sort of agreed upon time set in the universe. it just stuck out to me immediately when i heard it because month is such an earth specific thing.

I read lots as a kid. Was a gateway into the EU for me. I remember being blown away by a comic where Kit Fisto smooches Aayla to save her life.

But as I grew older, I found the Legends comics were increasingly uninteresting to me
>>
>>86953403
>Kit Fisto/Ayla
What now?
>>
>>86953437
They go to Kamino to investigate a traitor Kaminoan.

Culminates with Aayla being tossed into the ocean, but Kit Fisto dives in to save her. Being Amphibious, he "breaths for her", and smooches her until he gets her out of the water. It was pretty blatantly romanticized as a kiss.
>>

I would say:

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic - it takes place before the video games and has ties to them, and is a pretty good story

Star Wars: Republic - this story takes place during the prequels and is really great for prequel fans. Halfway through the series it enters the Clone Wars time period, and the main character of the comics is Quinlan Vos, but there are many story arcs that focus on other characters.

Star Wars: Legacy - a story that takes place like 130 years after the OT, and follows a new cast of characters, with the main character being a descendant of Luke Skywalker. I liked the story and all the new characters in these comics, and it has some nice ties to the Star Wars: Republic comic series as well.

You know, these handles, the Obi-wan/Luke variety, are my favorite lightsaber hilts. It sucks that the FX replicas and toys all make the narrow portion just as thick as the rest of it. I understand from a practical standpoint why they CAN'T make it more accurate and have the toy still function properly, but it messes with me something fierce.

I really liked Krayt and Roan Fel, which was really unexpected to me. Honestly Krayt feels like one of the most fleshed out antagonists in the Legends. Survived the Clone Wars, survived the Vong Wars, all the old Sith lords hate him and his ideas and he managed to accomplish more than them in a shorter amount of time before he ya know, died.
Armor was pretty baller too

>>
>>86959959
>let the Sith die with Kylo or Snoke
Don't the sith die with Vader and Sidious in nu canon
>>
>why would it have such an obvious design flaw?
What's obvious is you don't attack a 120km battle-station that can destroy a planet and otherwise has a firepower greater than half the Imperial Star Fleet IN A FUCKING FIGHTER. And it wasn't obvious, they had to specifically steal the blueprints to find it, and they were grasping at straws going with the weakness they found because they had no time to search for a way of attacking that was less stupid.

>why have a shaft leading right to your power source?
Because it's an exhaust shaft. You need a route for emissions from your power source to leave the vehicle (battle station). It could have used a more circuitous path (and doubtless the second Death Star's would have) but a straight line is far more efficient.

>why was it unprotected?
It was ray-shielded. Nothing short of a torpedo was getting through. And for people launching torpedoes, it had several towers with turbo-lasers protecting it, as well as a complement of fighters. And if it hadn't been for the Force, those defenses would have been more than successful.

Sorry. Had to get that off my chest.
>>
>>86960084
It can easily be changed, just like with the Nightsisters
>>
>>86960084
Kinda?
Palpatine gave up the Rule of Two in favor of One, being himself forever.
Krayt and all his followers are the same in that they call themselves the One Sith and all dark side users answer to the One Sith, being Krayt or whoever is most powerful
And after Legacy, pretty much every Sith/Dark Side user is dead

Nah, Snoke is a Whill. His kind have meticulously recorded the history of the galaxy by peering through the Force, and are the ones who wrote the prophecy of the Chosen One. Snoke is a renegade Whill with a will of his own (pun sort of intended).

Because she is.

>Outflies two TIE pilots trained from childhood with no copilot in a ship that's about 60 years old, when Luke almost got shot down by one in a dedicated dogfighter with help.

>Beats Kylo Ren despite losing badly because she can use the force with no training, despite Ren beating the shit out of both her and Finn before.

>Immediately liked by Han Solo, a man who threatened to throw Luke out the airlock when first meeting him, because she can now dictate to him how the falcon works.

You can go MUH FLIGHT SIM or MUH CHEST WOUND but that doesn't change what happens on screen.

My point is, can't we get over it ? Yeah she is, if you want. There's plenty of characters like that in Star Wars, is it that important ?

Anakin won a podrace, flew perfectly a Naboo starfighter for the first time, and destroyed a Droid Control Ship, at age 9.
>>
>>86961808
>Outflies two TIE pilots trained from childhood with no copilot in a ship that's about 60 years old, when Luke almost got shot down by one in a dedicated dogfighter with help.
The characters abilities are completely at the whim of the writer and change according to whatever dramatic moment they want at the time. TIE pilots have always been shit, except when they need to put the main characters in danger.
>Beats Kylo Ren despite losing badly because she can use the force with no training, despite Ren beating the shit out of both her and Finn before.
See point above.Darth Vader is an ace pilot, a man capable of taking out entire fleets and armies on his own, a master of the Force, and he gets taken out of a flight because some nobody surprised his wingman.
Also you don't need to train to actually use the Force.
>Immediately liked by Han Solo, a man who threatened to throw Luke out the airlock when first meeting him, because she can now dictate to him how the falcon works.
This is actually a good reason for him to like her. A lot of shit's been done to his ship, and she's the only one he has around that knows what's been fucked up. He gets rid of her, he can't fly his ship.

Rey isn't a good character because TFA, like all the other Star Wars movies, isn't a very well written movie.
>>
>>86961928
>Anakin won a podrace, flew perfectly a Naboo starfighter for the first time, and destroyed a Droid Control Ship, at age 9.
Yeah but hes the chosen one. It's even established in that very same movie

I know,
>TVtropes
but here's a list of elements that make a character a Mary Sue, as agreed upon by the general public:

- Personality? What personality? In these cases, it's fairly blatant the author is just writing the character for amazing stuff to happen to instead of a character that actually exists as a person. Obviously, this is only a Mary Sue trait if what happens gives the character special powers, fantastic romances, or somehow lets her be a big damned heroine; otherwise it's just another faceless first-person perspective.

- The personality of a Mary Sue - if she has one - is not nearly as important as how other characters react to it. No matter how shy or socially awkward Mary Sue is supposed to be, other characters will be drawn to her and inexplicably prefer her company over that of anyone else, all of her ideas are brilliant, all of her jokes are funny, all of her advice is an amazing breakthrough, people will trust her immediately, or very quickly, and feel more comfortable talking to her than to anyone else (even their own family or their significant other) even if she hasn't done or said anything to make them feel that way about her.

- If another character doesn't feel this way about Mary Sue, it's usually to portray them as either bad or just an idiot.

- Mary Sue doesn't have to actually do anything to be considered a good person, she just is good and by extension anything she does is good and even when she does nothing she brings more good into the world simply by existing than any other character ever could. Goodness just seems to seep out of her body like radiation.
>>
>>86961808
The one that got me the most was that she understood Wookie.
How the fuck does she know Wookie? She's never left Jakku.

Rey just didn't face any problems from lack of knowledge or expertise.
She passed every skillcheck she faced. That makes for a poor protagonist
>>
- Highly persuasive, regardless of the actual content of their conversations. Everyone finds her opinions are just better than their own - even when they're usually stubborn bastards.

- Incorruptible. In fact, unaware of the possibility of temptation.

- Her "major flaws" will be stubbornness and a bad temper. These will only ever help her, never hurt her — because she's always right, so whatever cause she dedicates herself to with such stubbornness will be a good cause, and whoever she loses her temper with will deserve it.

- Unjustified I Just Want to Be Normal: Being super awesome is a curse. Now in a franchise like X-Men, a character can find their awesomeness a curse, but at the very least it's because mutants are feared and their powers can cause them serious problems. The Mary Sue, on the other hand, will claim she wishes she was normal even when there's no actual downside to her powers.

- Regardless of what skill level the canon characters have established, she might just simply be better than them, often in ways that do not make sense. Not to mention that if she isn't already skilled at something, she'll pick it up in a fraction of the time required - if she even needs to learn them at all. She/he may have powers similar to what the other characters have, only with all of the downsides and limitations removed.

- Speaks several languages fluently. This can vary depending on the setting, of course. A modern-day diplomat is expected to know at least one or two other languages, but a 14-year-old peasant girl in Medieval Europe shouldn't speak Japanese and Hindi fluently. It's much worse if it includes animals. Bonus points if an alien lands in her backyard and she can communicate instantly (provided it doesn't speak the language already).
>>
>>86961928

Anakin fumbled and hit the torpedos by accident and his fighter was on autopilot. He didn't do it perfectly himself.
>>
>>86961928
>Anakin won a podrace, flew perfectly a Naboo starfighter for the first time, and destroyed a Droid Control Ship, at age 9.

And TPM was worse off for it
>>
- Absurd natural athletic ability - she can run like the wind without ever having worked on her running, and has impossibly high acrobatic skills.

- Bonus points to all of the above if Mary Sue is a poor orphan.

- Turns out to be the offspring of a canon character. (She may be related to a canon character in some other way. This can be the explanation for a Copy Cat Sue. And why spend chapters explaining why the heroes accept a total stranger into their midst so readily, when they can just shout, "Luke, I am your sister!")

- Previously-established personalities change in reaction to her. Arrogant gimps may admire her for everything. Sweet, mild-mannered characters (that she and the author don't like) insult and degrade her. A leader with responsibilities pays attention only to her. Young, reckless characters who would never settle down just yet will become totally reliable. Evil characters follow her around like a puppy or seem uncharacteristically obsessed with her. Extremely competent characters become stumbling buffoons who require her help to do anything. The characters in general just seem unnaturally focused on her, positive or negative.

- Mary Sue is always on the Spotlight-Stealing Squad. Without her, there would not be a story.

- She's The Chosen One. Even if the canon hero is already The Chosen One, she either 'shares' the position or just steals it away from them.

- Mary Sue has an unusually Dark and Troubled Past to the excess, just to emphasize how brave and special she is to live through it. This past is never really a point in the story, just dropped casually into the conversation to get attention.

Little Anakin flying the fighter and saving the day was shit.
Just because there's shit precedence it doesn't mean it's not shit.

Besides, it's partially balanced out by the fact that we know he will fail and fall and become Vader.

We don't have that type of foreknowledge with Rey.
>>
>>86961940

Luke didn't get hit by Vader, he got hit by a random TIE pilot. Random TIE pilots were able to kill most of the death star pilots with Vader only coming in late game. He may have the most PERSONAL kills but the rest of his squadron did more than enough to be dangerous.

And yes, you need to train to use the force. Heir to the Jedi has Luke trying the same mind trick with no training, and he doesn't get it no matter how many times he tries, and that shit's canon.
>>
>>86961943
>chosen one
Well that and he's been racing for a while before TPM, he just didn't win before.
>>
>>86961943
So, throwing out that a character is "the chosen one" excuses him for being a "Mary Sue" ?
It's probably even lazier than saying "well she just knows how to do that kinda stuff", it's literally "well that's because he's Jesus"
>>
- She will often have a tragic family life. Coming from an abusive background is quite common. Her mother is often either dead or a Wicked Stepmother. In the latter case, she will most likely be in Cinderella Circumstances. Her father is frequently an Overprotective Dad (or in some cases, a Wicked Stepfather). Orphans are also very common, as is Parental Abandonment.

- In these kinds of stories, the past is where any and all potentially interesting aspects of the Sue's adventure remain trapped. By making all the hardships and struggle over and done with at the start, she has no more room left to grow as a character. Ideally, a backstory should help explain things like a character's motive and/or how they acquired certain skills or items. A good author puts a relatively ordinary person into an extraordinary world and sees them steadily go through and react to all this pain and conflict over the course of the plot and develop into a stronger person bit by bit. A Mary Sue author skips that, with their character starting out as a badass and ending up as the exact same badass.

- In fantasy canons, she can break the Rules of the World at will. Often, nobody will even be surprised.

>>
>>86961947

That's what happens though.

Reys personality doesn't matter. She just stumbles from one amazing scenario to the next. She stumbles from saving BB8 to killing TIE fighters to saving Han Solo ect. ect. She gives a couple of one liners about how easily she can redo the Falcons problems and how great she is at whatever skill is needed and suddenly Finn is head over heels and Han loves her like a daughter.
>>
>>86962050

Ahsoka is a jedi. Jedi knights are expected to act as diplomats and study full time in jedi duties. Her knowing a bunch of languages makes sense.

That and, y'know, there are Wookiee Jedi she has to communicate with.

You and me both brother. That episode was great.

>>
>>86962039

The thing is, Anakin fails in ways Ahsoka does not. Anakin lags behind because he isn't trained which lets Darth Maul catch up and fight Qui-Gonn. Anakin barely holds his own in a dogfight because R2D2 is helping him. Anakin takes some serious shit in a podrace before he wins.

And that's AFTER the movie builds him up as being good. Which is the difference. Luke is hyped up in the movie as being a promising pilot. So is Anakin. Rey has nothing but an old helmet and we're meant to INFER that this scavenger somehow knows how to fly, becasue reasons. Those reasons being she somehow has a realistic full enclosure flight sim fully powered somewhere inside that one room shack built from an old walker.

TIE pilots are rarely shit in the OT. They wreck the fuck out of red and gold squadrons in ANH and Han Solo barely escapes with his life in ESB. They blast the fuck out of a bunch of fighters in ROTJ.

TIE fighters being shit is something that was built up by fans after the fact, it's never displayed in the films themselves until Force Awakens.

>>
>>86962190
>becasue reasons
That reasons is that Jedi are good pilots.
It's the screenwriters being a little blunt about it.

In Star Wars, we are told that Anakin and Luke are similar in two ways.
They're both great pilots and strong in the Force.

The TFA writers used Rey being an inexplicably good pilot as foreshadowing for her affinity for the Force.
>>
>>86962227
In Rebels, TIE Fighters are lethal when not attacking the main characters. They completely wrecked an entire convoy without taking any losses.
>>
>>86962227

>>
>>86962279

>in the OT and PT we're told that someone is a good pilot

>in the ST we're shown that someone is a good pilot
>this is bad move making

So it's true, to Star Wars fans "Show don't tell" really does mean show people a lot of text and make them read it.
>>
>>86962279

Except that the thing is that Luke needed friends to vouch for him and he does his piloting without the force until the very end. Anakin is described as using the force but podracing is obviously meant to give him experience and skills that can transfer.

there's many ways to establish a character, and just what you want to do with it. You either start with other characters saying someone is good at something, and then showing it, or you start off with your character doing that thing they're good at, and then other characters comment on it. Typically the bad things are shown first so that the comments can show that there's more to your character than just those bad things. Good things tend to be talked up while the character goes about showing other aspects of themselves. These can of course, be changed.

Both establish the character effectively.

The problem with Rey is not that we're shown she's a good pilot first, that's fine. The problem is that we're not given a contrast of something negative about it, or her.

1. Turning Point: Having turned Anakin to the dark side by showing him visions of his future, the son cements his position on Mortis by retrieving the blade that killed his sister...and slaying the father with it! Mortis, already overrun by the dark side, begins to fall further into ruin and despair.

2. Loose Ends: Twisted by the visions of his future self, Anakin is overcome with grief, rage...and a new sense of purpose! All he cares about is returning to the galaxy...and tying up the loose ends that refuse to bow to his whims. Loose ends like Obi-Wan and Ahsoka! In the cave of the dark side, with lava all around, Anakin casually disarms and abandons his former Master to the fiery depths. At the ship, Ahsoka is not quick or quiet enough to escape his flashing blade!

3. Back to Reality: It doesn't take long for Anakin to fix the ship, now that he is free of...distractions. Soon he -- and the son, tagging along back to the physical universe -- are headed deep into the heart of the galaxy, with only one thing on their minds, order. True order, born of conquest and fire! Only when Anakin is the undisputed ruler of the galaxy will either of them know peace...

4: Yoda & Sidious - United: Anakin and the son's first stop is Coruscant. Yoda and Darth Sidious can both feel the unstoppable malevolence in the Force -- and for the first time in an age, the Sith Lord feels fear. The Jedi Master, too, knows that Anakin is a challenge that must be met and conquered quickly, or he risks losing everything!

The unlikely pair meeting Anakin and the son on a landing platform, all pretenses dropped. Combat is engaged. Force lightning flickers everywhere, and blades of crimson, green, and blue flash in the Coruscant rain. But Anakin, imbued with the very essence of the dark side, is too powerful for these Masters of good and evil. He strikes them down, and grows even more powerful than before. Jet-black storm clouds swirl in the skies and refuse to clear, and Coruscant is plunged into eternal night.

5: Emperor Skywalker: Without pausing for breath, Anakin stalks through to the Senate, which is in session. With a crushing display of inhuman power, he casts down whole swathes of floating Senatorial pods, and levitates himself onto the central dais…where he declares himself the ruler of a new Galactic Empire.

The son watches and is pleased…Order will be his…Forever.

You'd think that would've been one of the first parts to go in, along with the weapon system just to make absolutely sure that the Genosian plans weren't complete bullshit.
>>
>>
>>86963246
Even if the plans turned out to be BS, the Empire would have still had a mobile battle station to act as a base away from Coruscant, or to invade planets with much more force than a ton of ISDs.

Other wise you'd have a space station with a giant gaping hole in it, and built around systems that were made for a giant laser.

Kevin J. Anderson made an overall positive contribution to Legends.

Jedi Academy and Darksaber were bad, but no worse than Dark Nest, Legacy of the Force, or Fate of the Jedi. Also, Young Jedi Knights and Junior Jedi Knights are cute and are the only books that have ever given the Solo kids distinct and consistent personalities beyond "everyone makes wisecracks 24/7."

This is the most retarded thing I've read in days. Being thrown out an airlock in the middle of space is a death sentence. Even in Star Wars. He thought she was dead and gave her the most cruel of his death because she betrayed him. He would've given her a Force choke but she evaded it before and he wasn't taking chances. This isn't the first time he did something this nasty to someone. See Rancid in Tarkin.

I actually believe he would've been a better ruler than Sidious. Anakin actually cared about order and stability. Even peace. Sure, Anakin is very cruel but he doesn't hold a candle to Palpatine. It's necessary brutality. He would have appointed Mas or other people like Tarkin to rule the Empire politically and militarily. If you look at the lore now, Sidious did not give a single fuck about the Empire and as soon as he started to rule, he started to slip further away from it doing his Sith experiments. The Vader comics and even A New Dawn mention he's fucking up and getting weak.

Kanan wasn't in the middle of Space like Aphra. Also, he was still holding on to the station. Plo Koon and the Clones had minimal life support gear and were rescued not long after they got blasted in space. Aphra was ditched in the middle of space with no hope of survival (for Vader to see).

Read "The Manhattan Project" by Stephane Groueff sometime. Facinating book.

They actually set about designing the atom bomb at the same time they were building the facilities for processing uranium at the same time they were figuring out how the hell to process uranium. If they had done all the steps in order instead of at the same time, it would have been another 5 years before they had a bomb. As it was, as soon as they finally managed to make enriched uranium, everything was already ready for it.

Well that's a pic based on TCW, and there is Hayden fanart, it is what Anakin looked like after all.

Part of the problem, wasn't that Hayden was terrible (at least in Ep. 3) its just that some of the direction itself was a bit lackluster. That and people have built Vader up so much that he was this glorious badass even without the suit, but in reality, he was just the same as ANH Luke...but I wanna to go to tashi statiooooon and pick up some power converters!

But a lot of people do fanart of TCW models/aesthetics because its easier to draw.

So I'm looking at articles and such about recent studies related to substances such as prilocybin and DMT and how the trips they give you essentially rewire or reset your neurological pathways towards a more "open" state in the long term.

It got me thinking - what would opening up to the Force for the very first time feel like? KotOR II went into this pretty in depth in your discussions with Kreia and unlocking the Force within your party members, but I was wondering if we'd ever gotten a canon explanation. And if not, any anon interpretations based on what we do know would do.

I ask because after reading some of these articles chronicling accredited recent studies, I'm entertaining the thought of seeing what one of these things might do for me. If only once.

Well Luke and Han took out that small patrol fairly easily.

And Rey did have an actual Stormtrooper with her that gave her some pretty crucial advice about how to put the TIE fighters at a crucial disadvantage.

And Rey actually had some experience with the Millennium Falcon, unlike Luke who had never so much as seen an X-wing before he jumped into one and started shooting down TIE pilots that were shooting down other guys with way more experience than Luke.
>>
>>86969902
>Well Luke and Han took out that small patrol fairly easily.

They didn't. Tarkin explicitly let them go and only gave them enough trouble to make them think they escaped.

And it's not just about them shooting the TIE fighters, it's that the TIE's basically never hit them. Luke and Han took more than one shot but the TIE's almost always seem to conveniently just miss Rey and Finn, even before the Falcon begins moving.

Luke is also established several times before that as being an accomplished Bush Pilot who's done more than his fair share of flying. You can see his airspeeder in the background of ANH. He's no beginner to flying. Even then he almost gets shot down and barely survives by a much thinner margin than Finn and Rey do against worse odds in an older ship.

>>86970091

Disney has found a shit ton of profit and popularity in Netflix for Marvel. I'm guessing they're already talking about it for Star Wars. But it probably won't be KOTOR.

But the thing is JJ straight fucked them. If they wanted a series to bridge the gap it'd never work because you'd get attached then either the jedi die off unceremoniously to a guy with an actor too busy and unaffordable to actually show up. Or else it'd be a series about just the senate dicking around. Because they accomplish fucking nothing that whole time. Or it'd be about X-Wing pilots dicking around and accomplishing nothing because the new republic got into no battles before Force Awakens.

If you do a KOTOR film it'd need to be as per canon and thus everyone needs Kylo Ren sabers, which looks stupid.
>>

The difference is during The Clone Wars they had a bunch of battles that could be explored and have things happening. Even in Rebels you have a bunch of shit going on because it's about the ongoing conflict between the rebellion and the galactic empire.

NOTHING happens conflict wise in the between section of VI and VII that'd be worth exploring. Luke trained a bunch of people that got into no noteworthy conflicts by the time they died. The Rebellion just kind of gives up on the war and cuts their military to a tenth strength literally just as they begin to gain the upper hand. You can't really do a Star WAR in that context.
>>
>>86970254
>>86970260
The TFA visual dictionary indicated that the crossguard lightsaber design dates back to the KOTOR era (specifically the time of "the Scourge of Malachor"). For some idiotic reason people now think this is what all ancient lightsabers looked like. Some guy in an earlier thread was even sperging out about the Jedi statue in the RO trailer not having a crossguard and how that now violates canon.

From what I can tell, the assumption comes from the same VD, which indicates that the side vents are needed to help stabilized the blade from the cracked kyber crystal Kylo uses. They assume this means that all lightsabers of the time needed the vents until someone invented a lightsaber that didn't need them.
>>

FTFY
>>
>>86970254
>>86970260
>>86970272

Kylo Ren's lightsaber is explicitly an older design and we see a bunch of identical lightsabers on Malachor, suggesting that instead of being a one off it was the most common jedi design at the time. If it WASN'T there'd be regular sabers there instead. The crossguard section is there to act as energy vents because the technology hadn't been perfected by the events that are roughly synonymous with KOTOR's events.

If you do a KOTOR project and nobody uses crossguard sabers you have to ask why literally everyone we'd seen before in that era uses shitty lightsabers that can't contain the power right but suddenly that problem is magically gone.

Well I wouldn't say the stories in non-movies are always small.

TCW had some very big stuff, be it character returns, deaths, and lore stuff like on Mortis. Plus huge battles like Umbara.

Rebels had the return of JEJ Vader, in an actual fight scene, with Anakins apprentice. A battle that culminated from 8 years of development.

Rebels also had a superweapon plot that also had some tip-of-the-iceberg lore about the origins of the Crossguard saber, and the ancient Jedi.

The comics. A "big moment" that would be expected from the movies (and hell it technically used to be!) was Vader finding out he had a son. That was the moment the entire shift of Vaders character happens, canonically, and it happens off-screen in a comic!

Then you have Dark Disciple, and the shit that goes down in that. Ventress was originally conceived for the movies too, if that matters. Either way, she had more screentime than most of the OT cast probably, the events of that book were pretty big to the fanbase, even if it was technically originally going to be animated on screen.

Han's "wife", and supposed co-star of the upcoming movie, was introduced years in advanced in a comic.

Aftermath Trilogy, while shitty, is going to culminate with the battle of Jakku, which LSG have stated is going to be one of the biggest battles in Star Wars history, forever. Hell, that's literally the real end of the Empire, and that's happening off-screen in a book.

Compare all that stuff with the most important event of TFA... Lets see... Starkiller Base was revealed, destroyed Planets we've never seen before, and was promptly removed from the Galaxy as quick as it was revealed. Ooookay?

I can understand the mentality that Lucasfilm would save the "biggest" events for the movies, but I think they have done enough in just the first 2-3 years to prove that isn't the case. No telling what could happen in the future.
>>
>>86970369
Just because there were crossguard sabers doesn't mean sabers of a regular design didn't exist at the time.

We've seen one ancient design, that doesn't mean literally everybody used it.
>>
>>86970398

none of those are galaxy shaking events.

try again.
>>
>>86970448

Which raises the question of why everyone was using a design with an inferior power regulating system then.
>>
>>86970369
The only one that actually needed the vents to contain the saber was Kylo's, and that was explicitly due to having a broken crystal. I think the implication is that he chose that design specifically because it was better suited to handle his crystal than a regular lightsaber, rather than because the crossguard design was made because there was a design flaw that they needed to overcome.
>>
>>86970506
Since his lightsaber looks like it's been tinkered with a lot, I could see him trying to make a regular one, finding out about the cross-saber design, and going "maybe that would work" and just jury-rigging some side vents onto it.
>>
>>86970398
>Starkiller Base was revealed, destroyed Planets we've never seen before, and was promptly removed from the Galaxy
To be fair, descimating the Republic Government actually was a big deal, it was just presented poorly.

>>86970458
The Battle of Jakku is.
>>
>>86970458
If we're talking truly Galaxy-shaking events, then you just have Sheev creating the Empire in the PT, the destruction of Alderaan in the OT, and the destruction of Hosnian Prime in TFA.

>but what about the Clone Wars
Which all happened in TCW. All of the Events that affected the Galaxy happened in the show, Episode 2 only announced it starting.

>but what about the Rebels blowing up the second Death star and ending the Empire
Which didn't end the Empire, the comics and books are showing the Rebels REALLY win the war post-Episode 6.

Even if you're absolutely limiting this to Era-turning, franchise changing events, that doesn't change the fact that those events aren't exclusive to the movies.

We see all of four lightsabers in the ruins of Malachor (unless you count those staff-weapons, in which case there is a fuck-ton), These four are all cross-guard sabers, but they're also all in the same 10 foot radius. Maybe they were common (insufficient evidence for them being ubiquitous) or it could just be a group of four friends who all used that style. It's inconclusive. I will give you that they were more common than originally thought.

Actually, I counted wrong
>>86970654
There's only three.
>>
>>86970574
I mean sure. But I'll throw in what >>86970552 said. The Battle of Jakku was a Galaxy changing Event, the final battle of the GCW, the end of the Empire, and the moment Politics in the Galaxy shaped what would grow into the Sequel Trilogy Era.

And all of that has thus far only been told in books, with no plan for a Jakku movie (although that would be brilliant, fingers crossed)

But the point is, this battle, in just the first three years of the Disney/Lucasfilm Canon, is a major non-movie event, on par with the moment Sheev first created the Empire! It was created in a movie, but ended in a book. There's no discrimination there from the LSG.

And again, if this is just the first 3 years, there is no telling what they will do in the future. They've already said how they want to treat all media equal. It's more about finding which platform is the best to tell the story they have. When they eventually dabble further into the past, or future, of the Galaxy, they will decide how they want to tell those stories. It's entirely possible that they wont use movies, because the general moviegoers will feel too detatched from the Star Wars they know. Remember the old republic is gong for a completely new ancient Japan aesthetic in Canon.

Stuff like that, all the "important" stories they could tell in an entirely new era, I'd wager will be through books and comics, and maybe a tv show.

That's bullshit.

You could have Luke's Jedi and the New Republic struggling in the aftermath of the galactic civil war. there's a thousand stories there. There could be a story of a couple sectors not falling in with the Republic and things get TPM crazy. Not galactic scale war but big enough.

It is established in Bloodline that the Republic had no real conflict between the Battle of Jakku and the events of said book. But as you say, it also establishes that there's plenty of non-Republic systems, and that Luke and his Jedi are nomads that don't affiliate with the Republic. There's room for Jedi adventures on the fringe fighting slavers and pirates and such. There's power struggles in the crime communities after the fall of the Hutts. The First Order is rising in the Unknown Regions. There's room for plenty of stories centered around conflict as long as the New Republic, as such. does what it does best (nothing). Nothing "galaxy shaking," but still engaging.

I'm reading the lords of the sith book. This guy is a dick, his species is slaves and all he cares about is his status and position. Not a single fuck given to his home planet

57 pages in and this is already great.
It's amazing how close all the PT events are to what Zahn talks about.
The purge, the formation of the empire, the old republic sending Jedi on oubound flight.
Other than the of fhand remark possibly implying that the clone wars were about different clones (but this easily could, and probably has been explained away in legends).

You could watch the PT after this and it would fit like a glove with just a few patches in it.
I thought it was going to be much more contradictory.

Mabye Lucas did have the timeline down as early as '92, when Zahn wrote this.

>You could have Luke's Jedi and the New Republic struggling in the aftermath of the galactic civil war.

But that didn't. Blame Wendig. The republic began winning then Mon Mothma immediately slashed their budget and manpower by 90%.

As well, Luke Jedi didn't contribute. They fucked off to a secret planet and nobody heard a single thing about them. Leia says as much in Bloodlines.

There were no adventures. Nothing happens.

That sounds silly.

A lot of stuff from the prequels was either already planned out in notes. I think that someone found some stuff George wrote about C-3PO and the notes about him being rescued by some kid working for a junk dealer were already in there.

Not to mention Lucas was working with Zahn and veto'd stuff that didn't fit his vision. The Noghri were originally meant to be the sith and look very different but that was shot down pretty quickly.

They're both silly, stupid books. Aftermath because it's a piece of burning garbage. Bloodlines because it's boring and forced and doesn't do much but describe Leia doing politics while interesting stuff happens offscreen.

But that's what they chose to run with. Wendig was the author they gave the full length trilogy deal to and Grey is actually way better in Lost Stars but this was something they basically had to write for TFA.
>>

I wonder how they feel about giving the trilogy to Wendig now.
>>
>>86971971
Well they gave him the TFA comic, so Kathleen and Wendig must worship the BBC together.
