So, I just finished the Ahsoka audio book...

Does anyone else feel massively disappointed? The whole thing felt like it was written by a lesbian fanfiction writer from Tumblr.

The only thing I actually enjoyed were the parts about the Siege of Mandalore.

Not really. All we knew was that color was set when the crystal is first attuned but it doesn't just change based on a Jedi's mood/alignment. This is just showing that there IS a way to change the color with some focus, but it's not just an automatic thing.

Like a Jedi picking up a Sith lightsaber doesn't automatically turn it blue or green, but they can remove the crystal and work with it to remove or change the color.

The crystals usually choose their owners. If a crystal is taken by someone its not supposed to be with it won't work. Dark Siders can bend the crystal to their will though, but the process causes the crystal to 'bleed' thus the red color change.

Since Anakins child murder crystal has been with him since Padawanhood it didn't have to change colour as it has been with the owner it has chosen.

The specific crystal calls to you, yes, but it isn't a matter of not working for anyone else. They don't have that kind of choice.

At most the reason why Ilum is so special to the Jedi is because the crystals, in their natural state (according to Dave), are clear so they blend into the ice. You otherwise cannot recognize them, or at least Younglings cannot. Keep in mind that Yoda knew damn well that Petro's original "crystal" was as much of a drip as he was.

The Gathering is about the younglings finding the crystal and it attunes with them. Ilum's ice caverns are used as a natural hiding ground forcing the younglings to rely on the Force. That said, anyone sufficiently powerful can very probably find a crystal and attune it manually give we've now learned you can influence the crystals color by exerting the Force onto it.

The coloration is not a necessary aspect of the tuning process and is merely a byproduct. The colors, as we've seen them, don't matter except that red is outright corruption. When red crystals were purified they were restored to the original state and still worked.

A crystal that hasn't been tuned to the Force simply will not work in a lightsaber because it needs that tuning in order to perform it's function as a power amplifier (see the Utapau Arc). An untuned crystal is just a geological curiosity. Or, to put it in terms that might help, as useful as an uncharged cell phone. You might have fun with it as a paperweight but that's it.

The crystal itself has never displayed any will or capacity to resist someone else using it, hence the reference to Grievous. The old lines about needing the Force to use a lightsaber aren't true, though of course as Pablo fairly recently said every living thing as some Force abilities albeit subconsciously, be it luck or flashes of inspiration or intuition.

This isn't even that difficult. The crystal doesn't refuse to work, it literally cannot work unless it is tuned. However we have indication now that tuning can be done outside of The Gathering. If they had that kind of power they would refuse to kill the person they originally chose in The Gathering. Crystals don't have that kind of say, at all. It isn't something they somehow have pre-tuning but lose after being tuned.

Not even close. It's not good by any means but it's nowhere near Wendig levels of bad. The book's biggest problem isn't the writing style so much as its lack of content... it doesn't feel like a complete story so much as a journal of some stuff that happens. Some of it is interesting and fleshes out some ideas about Ahsoka, Rex, the Inquisitors, etc. but not by much. The book basically has no real reason to exist, most of the vital information we get probably could've just been given to us through a reference guide without the need for anyone to plow through a really mundane story.

Does anyone else really fucking love canon 90% of the time but every now and then sit up at night wishing that the EU was still going on and consuming as much EU material as possible? I think what draws me to the EU on nights like this is the sheer amount of material that exists in the EU (a good portion of which is pretty decent). I wish they did something like Star Trek did where they allowed 2 different canons to be going on because while I love the actual logical force explanation and whatnot of nucanon I would love to see more EU stuff.

Like holy shit Disney has a superpower of just betting on the wrong horse, again and again and again. Remember that out of every studio they gave sole rights to EA, gave the only novel sequels to Wendig, put Rebels and Freemakers on XD, and made J.J. the VII director.

Everyone else is doing phenomenal work. Most of the novels have been great, but Disney picks the only straight up bad one to move with. The team behind Uprising is trying their best to do a story and make the game not pay to win, but they got cut while EAfront gets more DLC. It seems like again and again the only way for Disney to care about your work is to just shit on it.
